    Gyroplane technology is very promising but unfortunately little used today....I believe the reason is because many people do not know the advantages of this technology compared to the helicopter.

    Why the line of the vector of thrust is to high from the ground, when the ducted fans are to small? It seems the line of the vector of thrust is much higher than the center of mass, but could be in the same place.

  • @abidfarooqui-sla3301

    Right. I would like to ask this guy or his engineers some technical questions. If they can answer them I will "consider" his claims further but right now they are sounding quite out there and not adding up as an engineer (and happen to be the CTO of a production gyroplane company in the US with actual modern 2 seat gyroplanes flying in US airspace). I'd like to ask Dick Degraw if he is really truly on this team next time I get to see him

    • @leswakeham3596
      @leswakeham3596 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Yes Abid, I agree with your skepticism regarding his claims. Seems to be talking CarterCopter technology regarding his high speed craft.
      Interestingly, I'm somewhat bemused of his choice of using a "Nano" gyrocopter as a test bed for his battery ducted fan technology.
      The thrust potential seems to be relevant to performance, yet in an 'engine out' situation the drag factor with the engines hanging out on their outriggers, would be much more multiplied and apparent when pitching the nose downwards to maintain a positive control airspeed. The rotor disc loading would certainly be tested in a vertical descent sink rate, perhaps more than what is the 'acceptable norm' in flight dynamics.
      Still though, innovations are still being researched and tried. Harks back to the golden age of aviation during the 1940s - 60s, when rapid concept-to-use technology occurred.

      You should see the other comment I posted. I honestly just can’t get over how absolutely absurd these numbers he’s throwing are. The aircraft weighs 260 lbs and has enough battery and powerful enough motors for a 1 hour hover and 208 knot top speed. That rotor mast would have an absurd amount of drag. He also claims the are proprietary ducted fans….but are just off the shelf vasyfan 390’s!

      Errr... not really, it limits the radius of the propellor blades.... it is more efficient for a given radius but that the has to be optemised for the airspeed/power available equation. If this worked in the speed range of light aircraft we would see many more . It is a sexy look though.

      Parachutes are almost never implemented in gyroplanes, and it's easy to push the stick forward until the rotor stops providing lift. If the gyro rolls over you're dead.

      At some forward speed the air sees the rotating blades as a round wing and produces lift. See translational lift.

      @@raymondtolhurst7994 "air sees the rotating blades as a round wing and produces lift"... therefore lift is generated which is the opposite to "no lift"

    • @Veldtian1
      @Veldtian1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TM-529 I think he meant no active motor driven rotor force to generate lift, at a certain point in horizontal flight the gyro blade free spins, that's how it goes you know?

    • @Krevi7
      @Krevi7 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Veldtian1 It doesn't sound like you do. He is talking about slowing the rotor (like a Carter Copter) so the tip speeds are slower, allowing for a faster aircraft. Tip speeds are always the issue in rotorcraft. So by slowing them, you reduce this drag. Now on the Carter copter they slowed the rotor AND hand wings, so at speed the rotor was just along for the ride and the wings produced the lift. He is claiming slowed rotor, yet no wings

    He lost me at the electric plane with that small of a wing area claiming it never has to land. Almost all of his claims are questionable. Acquiring companies, receiving payouts and licensing technologies does not show engineering competence. The exhaust speed of those vasyfan 390’s is max 80m/s (178 mph) as stated on the website. The 200+ knot claim is simply impossible.

     @RunesLegacy yeah sounds like a lot of BS......"We can slow the rotors down to minimum drag configuration" that would be locked axially front to back? so you would need to re-engage them below 130 Knots to initiate a landing wow what a stress load on the entire air frame. Also "over 130Knots we don't need the lift from the rotors" what is providing your lift those simply tiny winglets coming off the rear of the cabin? Most gyros are restricted to max speeds of around 90 Knots primarily because of the assymmetrical lift in the advancing and retreating blades as well ass speed induced oscillation -bring on the videos of proof and I will be a convert- until then a sceptic.
