I love the part beginning at 7:37 when the old guys tell the host about the food with "music" and then the beat starts too drop! And then they wish him to have a good poop! Awesome!
13:14 Whoa now there cowboy. You might want to rein that in a bit. Sheer long underwear and a purple scarf weren't your greatest achievement. Distracts from the show.
Not only Americans don't speak German. Ok average German not able to speak English, but a Vice person not in English??? Or should each episode only be done in the local language, in Thailand be done only in Thai, in Russia only in Russian...???
We went to Germany's apple wine country to drink our weight in this tart, cider-like drink. Check out more episodes of _Al-Kee-Hol_ here: munchies.vice.com/show/al-kee-hol/ Click "CC" on the video player for English subtitles Subscribe to Munchies here: bit.ly/Subscribe-to-MUNCHIES
Very nice vid! I just have to correct one thing. "En fuenfer bembel" does not mean 5 liters, it means 5 Gerippte (the traditional glasses ebbelwoi is drunken from) full with Ebbelwoi. One Geripptes has appr. 0.25L, so a 5er Bembel is appr. 1.25L. Usually they make it quite full so you get 1.5L. Anyhow, very good Vid and nice to see my hometown on munchies!
I was born in germany, love the culture. Currently living on the east coast near DC......anyone know of a place around here that makes and/or sells this? Plenty of cider to be had, true, but I want something like that. DROST!
Peeps really calling this "fermented piss" whilst one of the most sold and produced alcoholic beverages in their country is bad beer filled half with water.
Now I feel like I really missed something by not sampling this drink in a pub the one time I visited Frankfurt. I did have one bottle of it in the hotel bar but that looks like a lesser experience.
MrTJMishRat My ancestors are from Germany and the local. We don't need to eat very much compared to people who grew up around the equator. Our ancestors lived on potatoes and meat.
KGBgringo No. Similar, but not quite. It’s less sugary and has less body. Goes down very easy and is incredibly refreshing. Much more so than apple cider, though French/Quebec ciders come closer.
FuCkImRiCh German was the USA's second language in the 19th c., but people die. It is so annoying when that happens. Unless it's my mother. That was good.
FuCkImRiCh Point is that videos from Vice are usually dubbed in English, it was a little surprise for me too but I can luckily handle a little of german.
So typical... 6-9 years of English, and they still can't speak/won't speak/don't want to speak English. Dubbing your movies and TV from to English to German ruins everything.
+James T Kirk Who is "they"? Most people from younger generations speak english just fine. Thank you very much. And why do they have to speak english anyway? The subtitles in this video are good so i don't really get what your problem is. Lazy much?
James T Kirk Well, our dubs are the best in the world and what do you even care? You do realise that there are also old people who never had the chance to learn english? And what has any of this got to do with this video? You are contradicting yourself. Either you want everything dubbed or you want subtitles. You seem to want subtitles, subtitles you've got. Why are you moaning? They are german people, why should they speak english? Because it's convenient for you? Go to France and try your luck there.
Frieda "Having the best dubs in the world" isn't exactly something to toot your horn about... I don't hear any Dutch, Belgians, Scandinavians or Finns complain about not being literate enough to read subtitles. The reasons subtitles are better is because it reinforces the language that you (Germans) learned in school, instead of just allowing you to forget the 6-9 years of English that you learned in school. I've been to France 3 times, and have had relatively good luck with using English there, thanks. :)
James T Kirk Do i make the impression not to know how to speak english? I've left school over 16 years ago. I still don't get why it matters to you? It's not really any of your concern, is it? Most people use english all the time, be it on the internet, with friends from around the world or through music. And if people want to watch un-dubbed movies they can do so whenever they please. Options are plenty. A lot of people don't even own TV anymore. neither do i. And our children don't speak english. Do you want to deny them to watch movies in their own language?
got a little teary eyed watching this.
being home sick sucks.
I love the part beginning at 7:37 when the old guys tell the host about the food with "music" and then the beat starts too drop! And then they wish him to have a good poop! Awesome!
Such a nice video! Next year I need to go to Frankfurt again and have a little "Schoppe" myself.
Thats the spirit!
Very last shot of him feeding the doggie, absolutely phenomenal ending :-D
Little dog next to the table at the end... so cute!
I wanna go to Frankfurt!
I got a buzz watching this
Gibt nix bessers als wir en Schobbe!
Love Frankfurt, love my Alt-Sachsenhausen 💓
We both want and need more Billy. More Billy, less snidey boring Americans talking about real ale.
What's all this complaining about missing subtitles? I'm watching it with english subtitles now ffs
I don't know what it is with people, it's as easy as looking to the low right of the video cubicle.
Kai Demal
It's clearly indicated in an anotation, too.
"Trinkigkeit" ist wirklich ein Wort? Ok....
Sebastian Keil Würde ja eher "süffig" sagen :D
There is an option for subtitles, for all those Einsteins out there.
Even the Germans think that shirts goofy as hell
13:14 Whoa now there cowboy. You might want to rein that in a bit. Sheer long underwear and a purple scarf weren't your greatest achievement. Distracts from the show.
love it how vice deutschland is covering it!
the food looks awesome at the end. Too bad no sub-titles for us that do not understand German,
Click "CC" on the video player for English subtitles.
Oh okay thanks so much!
i was 5 min into to vid till durrrrr
I got the subtitles to run by using the "cc" option.
I really hope that when the time comes and I have the resources to go to Germany, there's still traditional apfelwein that still made there.
Lee Song I live in Frankfurt and there is Apfelwein everywhere and even the cheapest is still delicious
that is a great vid. this is the well done kind of presentation that made me subscribe to vice in the first place. thanks gang
To all the muricans complaining: You can activate fixed subtitles for this video at the TH-cam options...
Not only Americans don't speak German. Ok average German not able to speak English, but a Vice person not in English??? Or should each episode only be done in the local language, in Thailand be done only in Thai, in Russia only in Russian...???
I have now read all the other comments and not enough people are talking about how great Billy is. I want to take him drinking in Edinburgh.
Awesome. I would like to do shows for you guys. Awesome perspectives!
Man, apple wine sounds pretty nice. That said, I know zlitch about wine.
Mary's Test Kitchen It’s a dry apple cider, basically. Very delicious.
Excellent! Thanks!

*PROST
th-cam.com/video/mE8phOMlBuo/w-d-xo.html
It’s similar, but not the same. Opt for dry ciders with less sugar content.
Peeps really calling this "fermented piss" whilst one of the most sold and produced alcoholic beverages in their country is bad beer filled half with water.
Shut uuuuuuuuup
Die "Trinkigkeit" has got "sieben Alkohol"?! My dear "sommelier-consult", this kind of pretentious nonsense sucks. But, oh my my, it is so ...Berlin.
I wish we had something like this here in PL..

I must try this apple wine!
Now I feel like I really missed something by not sampling this drink in a pub the one time I visited Frankfurt. I did have one bottle of it in the hotel bar but that looks like a lesser experience.

Handkäse is a German Reigional sour milk cheese specialty of Frankfurt am Main
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Handk%C3%A4se
What's the song at the start being played on the flute? I've heard it sampled before in a rap song before I think, sounds really cool.
Looks delicious :3
It´s nice for me as a german! :P
What?.... I had to follow ***** 's advice and watch the video twice; one for reading the subs and one to watch what was going on! lol!
love cider! and its gluten free!
this guys dress sense is fucking incredible
The beginning looks like something out of a Wes Anderson movie
Heaven...🍺🍺🍺
Multiply this with 100 and you got the austrian drinking culture... :D
Hope they make a video about Austria as well. Preferably auf Sterisch :D

yay for this all german episode
These subtitles suck
Whats the first song called?
❤️ Deutcheland 🙏🍻
Ebbelwoi halsenai
I think vice should stick to superimposing their own subtitles. These google ones are so tiny.
you can change the font size by clicking options on the cc tab
You may want a different font option.
Apfelwein? Äbbelwoi heest des, du Honnebambel!
nix gegn unsern Pälzer Schoppe! Der hott'n halbe Lidda!
Haha.... Alter, Apfelwein Cola klingt vielleicht grausig. Cooles Video
I would weigh 400 pounds if I lived in Germany
escope1959 oh you have no Idea! Since I've been in South America I lost so much weight, but I do miss myself an Ebbler
MrTJMishRat
My ancestors are from Germany and the local. We don't need to eat very much compared to people who grew up around the equator. Our ancestors lived on potatoes and meat.
Munchies Do something with trick daddy dollars. If you look on his instagram he has plenty of cooking videos and is quite the personality.
I have no idea what they're saying! xD
Why not learn an other language?
Don't the subtitles help ?
dieser depp soll ma genauer beschreiben wies schmeckt darum gehts doch so ein hoschi!
What is the name of the audio track that starts playing at 15:30? Its fire.
It's called "generic millennial soundtrack"
Is this just cider in a fancy bottle and called apple wine?
KGBgringo No. Similar, but not quite. It’s less sugary and has less body. Goes down very easy and is incredibly refreshing. Much more so than apple cider, though French/Quebec ciders come closer.
falsch!
Who knows this jazzy lounge song at min 15:30? Wer kennt das geile Jazz Lounge Lied bei Minute 15:30?
Song at the end? PLEASE!!!
Subtitles would be awesome.
You just have to click the little CC symbol at the bottom right of the video :-)

Where the fuck are the subtitles in the phone!!
Lol.. why is this entirely in german ?
cause it's in Germany maybe?
If you use the "cc" function you can see subtitles. There is an anotation in the clip at the beginning advising of this -- you just have to read that.
we apologize for speaking a different language then yours, mr america. deeply sorry :(
FuCkImRiCh

I'm Jewish & I find this very offensive.
What the hell is offensive about this??
Jews are always offended if they don't make money out something or are about the destroy white european culture.
Es geht nix über e schö Stöffsche
