This video has helped me on my 2003 Chevy S10 2.2L.I can't find any other video on youtube that even resembles the step by step instructions you all have shown.
Loved your video, and exactly what I needed. Friendly advise (don't know if you already did) invest in a better microphone, the interference noise is very loud.
The 'wood' method never works for me. hehe. I wish the kuckleheads had designed the cover with a taper at the outer edge there so that you can initially place the seal so that it easily goes in 1mm or so by hand. That'd have been swell. But no. So I always wind up using precision hammering technique. Using a construction type hammer or equiv tap not too hard all around until it's on it's way then increase the velocity a little and continue tapping around and around emphasizing of course high spots.
Looks like this would be a nightmare with the engine still installed in the truck. I've been working on my therapist's '97 S10 and am trying to verify if his timing chain is messed up. I'd hate to get this deep into it and find out that the timing set is still good....
It's always somewhat random as to whether valves will wind up in a position where they get damaged badly enough to give problems. If it happens to stop turning right as valves are in transitional states then of course...you got lucky. If they happen to be right at the peak then kerslam :-)
I found out months ago, had to remove the head and sent it to the machine shop to replace two valves.... It's been running like a champ since then.... It is a 95 S10 motor... another I came across is in a 2004 Malibu with DOHC ecotec..... Two different designs and same result....
of all the worthless backyard vids on the timing chain for our trucks, this one is by far the best. thanks. Definantly not worthless.

Thanks for all your hard work! Please include year models in all your video titles, and prompt other mechanics to do the same. Thanks Again!

exactly what i was looking for... thanks for the post!!!!
To make this a lot easier; you could tell how to get that crank gear off; and that those bottom two studs Aura 532 to get them out

2:00 - 4:00 is work before the harmonic balance, but after the diagnosis
What size tip should I use for harmonic balancer removal? I have a 1998 Chevy S10 2.2Liter L4!
Very helpful thanks
Thanks for the info.
thanks this help big time
I'm hoping that all my 1999 Isuzu Hombre needs is a new timing chain set.
(The Hombre is mechanically identical to an S10).
they use a torx for one of the tentioner bolts do you know what size. you show it at 4:57
I used t40

Yes, the lack of a cover camfer is irritating.

How is the timing set since there is no distributor on the 2.2l 94 s10 ?
Only align camshaft and crankshaft. Piece of cake
Does the engine have to be at a specific point? Or is it as simple as lining up the marks and reinstalling?
Every video skips removing the crank gear. Last time I did this job, I couldn’t get it to come off. So I left the old one on there.
Two questions.... So this is an interference engine or not....? And is there any difference between the 95 model 2.2?
gtstangman96 i knows it a bit late, but yes. its an interference engine.
+gtstangman96 Btween the pre-'98 & the '98-later: Plenty!... But not so-much in design operation.
