  • In this video, we will learn about the configuration process for Incremental Refresh in Power BI. Here, we will take an example of real-life data where the data source is supported Query Scaffolding.
    With February 2020 update, Incremental Refresh is available with Power BI Pro license. So, you can leverage this feature with your report.
    We will define two date parameters - Range Start and Range End to configure incremental refresh.
    Then we need to define the period range for the data which you wish to have for the first time when you publish your report to Power BI Service. Then we need to set the interval for the refresh period where you need to define how much time period you wish to consider for your incremental refresh. At last, we will test the incremental refresh with different use cases.
    Here you will learn the following concepts.
    Real life example for Incremental Refresh: 0:58
    Query Scaffolding for Incremental Refresh: 03:00
    How to check if my data source is supported Incremental Refresh or not? 04:01
    Define Parameters for Incremental Refresh 04:44
    Configure Incremental Refresh with Power BI Desktop 09:17
    Publish report and configure refresh 11:45
    Test Incremental Refresh functionality 13:18

    Hello Sir can you please explain about why we need to create range start and range end parameters what is used of that and can we choose any random date for that parameter as we set set all parameters in incrimetal in incresmental refresh ther we set archive year as well last days to refresh but i I'm confused as we created these things in incremental refresh then why we need to set range start and range end parameter and is there is relation about this parameter or we can take any date for creating this range start and range end parameter

    Very useful video. Just thinking if you can confirm whether we can perform these actions for datasets placed on SharePoint and OneDrive since majority of the firms don’t give access to Databases. It would be great if you can provide a response for the same.

      Incremental Refresh is only supported for the data sources which support Query Scaffolding.
      SharePoint Online List do NOT Support Query folding.
      OneDrive.. No idea on this.

    Thank you, in RangeEnd how it will work as dynamic when date goes beyond this fix date.

    • @iamdhruvinshah
      @iamdhruvinshah  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I believe, here you are talking about the default date which I set in RangeEnd parameter correct?
      It's just a default value. Once we publish report and configure Incremental refresh parameter - Store Rows and Refresh Rows, it will take those value dynamically from there.
      Please correct me if I misunderstood here anything.

      No, these parameters are set once in desktop and later no need to set them. Service will take care as per the incremental policy you set.

    if we keep adding more and more rows on incremental refresh, how to handle the size issue of 1GB?

    • @MKJainStatistics
      @MKJainStatistics 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Refresh data size limits are 1 GB for compressed data and 10 GB for uncompressed. In my opinion, size of refresh data will only matter. That is why incremental refresh come into picture, with enhancement in faster refresh. Certainly file size shall also matter, there you need to limit the data anyway, but i think it is decent amount of data.
      Second, try to optimize your pbi file, search for how to reduce size.

  • @1yyymmmddd
    @1yyymmmddd 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    You can implement incremental refresh in Power Query without any of these complicated steps and it will work on any data set, not only on query-foldable.

      @@iamdhruvinshah The simplest way is to load your 5 year data in Table1, all the following years in Table2. Append Table1 to Table2. Then uncheck "Enable Load" and "Include in report refresh" for Table1.

      @@1yyymmmddd Hi bro, how can I contact you?
      Your thought was good. Pls correct me
      If I went wrong
      In Table 1 - I am loading 5 years data.
      In Table 2 - I am loading only 2022 Jan month data.
      And then I need to append table1 and table 2.
      And then uncheck 'enable load' for table 1 and include in report refresh.
      So while you are refreshing, the table 1 also will refresh the 5 years of data right? because you have selected include in report refresh.
      So it doesn't come under increment refresh right?

    • @1yyymmmddd
      @1yyymmmddd 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@usmansharifshaik1187 You have to uncheck both "Include in report refresh" and "Enable Load" for table1. It then stays put while table2 will refresh as usual. You do the Append in table2 (you append table1 to table2).

    • @usmansharifshaik1187
      @usmansharifshaik1187 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@1yyymmmddd okay but for the table1 we need to write conditions to load data only in the fixed range of date, right?
      eg: in table1 we need to fetch 2020-jan-1st to 2021-Dec-31st data.
      and in table 2, need to fetch from 2022-jan-1st onwards data .
      and we need to append both tables. am i correct?
