Boys were prepared from a young age, and yes they more or less "threw away" babied that were unsuitable. But they were prepared for their inevitable service in war. Which isn't something we do anymore, we don't train 6 year olds for war. You're also not a warrior just because you were "sired" by one. It takes training and discipline, not just the knowledge of how to fight and kill, which isn't genetic.

He did what anyone would do when someone is mortally wounded, he told his son that he was going to be okay, that they’re going home. When Neteyam was dying, Jake wasn’t focused on anyone else except his eldest son, then he allowed himself a second, and tbh I don’t think he was being strong for Neytiri, I think he needed her just as much, then it was back to being Taruk Makto because his daughters were in danger. Then when everything was over and Neteyam was with Eywa, it was Jake that had contact with him first.
Neteyam doesn't know he even died cause he told jake "why are you crying dad" and jake said "I'm just happy to see you my boy" and neteyam said "I'm happy to see you to dad"
He didn't show emotion but was dying inside. He might be strict to his sons but deeply loves them alot. He couldn't face what was happening he was NUMB.
Jake is a good dad. He's just strict, because he has to be for saftey. Parents aren't perfect, we cant expect them to be experts, they're learning like we are. He shows his emotions and his care differently, that doesn't mean he doesn't love them. 💙

Because of his arrogance he put his family in danger and got his brother killed. When someone is at fualt, you shouldn't lie to them and say they aren't, they need to see the consequences of their actions so they can grow and change. Yes they could've been more comforting to him, but then he wouldn't realize how badly his mistake was.
Some people I guess forgot that Jake is an ex-marine. He must have seen many deaths and grown used to seeing people die. He was in shock, and when he came out of if he came back to the reality that he lost his first son.

If you look really close you can see that Jake's first reaction to Neteyam's death was slightly shaking him, as if he wanted to wake him up. He's probably gonna think he failed Neteyam - that he failed to protect him and the rest of his family. I can't even imagine the scale of pain he felt in this scene. Everyone seems to be focusing on Neytiri here - of course mother's love is unbreakable, but the father's.... It's a diffrent kind of love, but still very deep and strong. Jake loves all his children - each in a diffrent way, but he still cares. He cares about them more than himself.

My counter evidence is the pride and trust Jake shows in him when he asks how the others looked after the bullied Kiri and her brothers stepped up to defend her. At the end when Lo’ak is saving him and in a moment of delirium, wistfully thinks it’s Neteyam.
Also when Jake was trapped and Lo’ak came to save him, he called Neteyam’s name out thinking it was him but it was Lo’ak. Jake forgot for a second that Neteyam was dead and was thrusted back into reality when he realized. And that’s so realistic because going through something as traumatic as having your child die in your arms, I can’t even imagine how him and Neytiri are feeling. I know for a fact Jake feels like he failed Neteyam and failed as a father because he said “I can protect this family. That I can do.” and “a father protects.” And he wasn’t able to do that, what he set out to do this whole movie. Jake will carry that guilt for the rest of his life and it’s incredibly heartbreaking. Anyone who thinks that Jake isn’t showing any emotion here are dumb and don’t know how emotions or grief works, many many people need time to fully process such a devastating blow as losing a child. The guy is clearly in shock. Also we see him fully break down at the end when he revisit his memories with Neytiri at his funeral.
There’s another scene that has been cut out, when Neytiri and Jake are washing Neteyam’s body. Jake completely breaks down while Neytiri is emotionally numb. They just answer the shock in their own time, in their own way. Y’all really tripping bc I wrote Jack instead of Jake, fixed it now

He was subconsciously in denial. He called Neteyam's name when Lo'ak carried him back to the surface while they were still in the ship underwater. He thought Lo'ak was Neteyam. He hasn't fully processed that Neteyam was already gone. Plus during this scene, he was concentrated on Neytiri, trying to hold her back from the emotional pain and sorrow as she was consumed by grief.
Jake is like emotionally numb like he lost his first son, Neteyam is the one that called him father first. In my opinion, Jake was lost, exhausted physically and mentally. I am pretty sure he felt like, he lost a part of him. He is numb, you can see it in his face

Right before Neteyam passes you can hear his voice breaking when he responds to Neteyam asking to return home, the man is BARELY holding it together because they're in a survival situation and he has to keep the rest of them safe. His response was to shut himself down, and the full weight of what happened hit him when Lo'ak rescues him - Finally acknowledging his second son in the wake of his loss
See, of you look REALLY closely, you can actually see the hurt deep inside Jake's eyes, even though he has a straight face, you can still see it there. It's hard to tell, but I can see it because I have a lot of experience with this kind of emotion.
Jake is a strict dad because he is a soldier, but you can tell he cares a lot for all the kids. He comes off as too hard and too strict, but he does care and show sadness when either of them are hurt or about to die When you go through stuff, sometimes you don't cry, I don't always cry when a family member passes away or even at a funeral. Having have lost pwople while in the war and even when he first became a avatar he's seen so many people go and he's probably in shock, shutting down or dissociation
Sometimes you go into shock and emotionally shut down. Just because it’s not blubbering or explosive, doesn’t mean it lacks emotion or feeling. Jake is experiencing such intense grief, that he isn’t able to express it. It’s not less or more emotion than the others, it’s just his way.

There is actually so much emotion in his eyes. Remember that Jake was and still has human features. When we don’t show emotion in the face, our eyes will show how we’re feeling. That look was the look of a broken father. Think of how many people he lost. He’s lost not only a brother and a son, but he lost friends in war. This dude is barely holding it together
Those who think those little movements and that far off stare aren't his way of showing his emotions didn't pay attention in the first movie and probably don't understand that some people can't cry when things like this happen. They lock up, their heart is going through an earthquake and a hurricane is twisting him on the inside. He did well in this scene.
Jake sully showed emotion. What kind of father would he be if he didn’t show emotion to his first oldest or second oldest son. He cares about his kids so much that he would even kill himself to protect them. And even his own wife. He wouldn’t care about his life anymore without them. They may want him to move on. But he might not of the care he has for them. Jake is a nice guy who cares about his family and would do anything for them. No matter what the risk is. There is always gonna be revenge when somebody attacks or kills the sully family.

Man a lot of people hate on jake in the second movie because of how he treats his sons, but the thing is every time he had an outburst at them it was because they had been in danger and he was scared for them. Sometimes when people are scared they react with fury. It’s pretty clear his family adores him even if they don’t always see eye to eye, and he might not be the best with emotion but he literally did everything for them. And he’s def having a hard time processing the grief of losing neteyam. Actually the song that plays on the movie’s credits “nothing is lost” is seemingly from jake to neteyam pov wise. It talks about how he just wanted to protect them and that he’d be living his life patiently until he can see neteyam again. That his love for them is stronger than the sky people and their armies from above. That even if he dies he would still defend them to the end.
Dude you can even hear it in his voice especially when he says “I know I know we’re going home” and “it’s okay it’s okay” like you can’t say he didn’t show emotion😭
Jake truly loved all his kids. Whenever they put themselves in danger or do something stupid, he always checks to see if they are okay before scolding them.

When Lo'ak finds Jake in the ship barely above water. Jake mistaken Lo'ak for Neteyam and Lo'ak apologizes to his father that he is not the son he wanted. That was so sad because you could tell how Jake was grieving internally. I know some people missed that part in the movie.
Jake is also from military background and they're taught to block their emotions. Especially during battle. But at the end of the movie when everything is over he does cry when he sees his son again in the afterlife. Because it was safe for jake to let go of his emotions. Plus he wanted to be strong for bus family at the time of his sons death
People who say this think emotions equals crying and that’s not true. Every time Jake lost a loved one we see him dissociating and in a state of shock, following up with going into a state of action. He did it with Tommy, Grace, and now Neteyam.

After the burial scene when Jake and Tonowari were talking he has these deep dark circles under his eyes indicating he was tired, hadn’t slept, was probably crying all night after they buried Neteyam

People say that Jake isn't as brave and more cowardly in this movie but I don't think so at all. In the first movie he didn't care about anyone or anything. he was just going with the flow. he had nothing to loose. Now he has everything to loose. A beautiful wife, two handsome sons, and two beautiful daughters. If Neytiri and Jake hadn't started their family yet by having children this movie would have taken place in the Pandora's forrest because Jake would have had no problem fighting with Qauritch again right then and there. He ran because he was afraid for children. He just wanted to protect them.
Big thing here is that he is/was a Marine. He likely is dealing with the grief but also PTSD and in the WORST way possible so his lack of emotion is likely moreso due to his training, PTSD and just general shock than “oh he doesn’t care”. As someone who is a military brat the way he reacted was very realistic IMO

Being in shock because ur son died is an emotion. It is the feel of feeling everything all at once, sadness, anger, and a little in between. I felt the same way with my pup and my little cousin died. I showed no emotion untill a few days later, when it hit me all at once. I fell on the floor and throw things around. It takes time for some people to comprehend what has had to the ones they love.

Neytiri also lost her father, and tsu’tey who she didn’t love romantically but formed a strong bond with after her sister was murdered. Who was in love with Sylwanin and Took the death really hard himself. Not to mention the various background characters who she grew up with probably died in the war as well. Jake lost grace and Trudy, all around there is so much death and trauma it’s not even funny. Anyone who thinks that Jake isn’t showing any emotion here are dumb and don’t know how emotions or grief works, many many people need time to fully process such a devastating blow as losing a child. The guy is clearly in shock. Also we see him fully break down at the end when he revisit his memories with Neytiri at his funeral.
Everyone shows emotion differently. Just stop judging everyone based on what u would expect to see, everyone is different

There’s another scene that has been cut out, when Neytiri and Jake are washing Neteyam’s body. Jake completely breaks down while Neytiri is emotionally numb. They just answer the shock in their own time, in their own way.

I cried so hard when Neteyam died
He was subconsciously in denial. He called Neteyam's name when Lo'ak carried him back to the surface while they were still in the ship underwater. He thought Lo'ak was Neteyam. He hasn't fully processed that Neteyam was already gone. Plus during this scene, he was concentrated on Neytiri, trying to hold her back from the emotional pain and sorrow as she was consumed by grief.
Jake is like emotionally numb like he lost his first son, Neteyam is the one that called him father first. In my opinion, Jake was lost, exhausted physically and mentally. I am pretty sure he felt like, he lost a part of him. He is numb, you can see it in his face
While drowning when jake addresses Lo'ak as Neytetam , it broke my heart. I understood how much pain he was holding in

His response was to shut himself down, and the full weight of what happened hit him when Lo'ak rescues him - Finally acknowledging his second son in the wake of his loss
See, of you look REALLY closely, you can actually see the hurt deep inside Jake's eyes, even though he has a straight face, you can still see it there. It's hard to tell, but I can see it because I have a lot of experience with this kind of emotion.
Jake is a strict dad because he is a soldier, but you can tell he cares a lot for all the kids. He comes off as too hard and too strict, but he does care and show sadness when either of them are hurt or about to die
When you go through stuff, sometimes you don't cry, I don't always cry when a family member passes away or even at a funeral.
Having have lost pwople while in the war and even when he first became a avatar he's seen so many people go and he's probably in shock, shutting down or dissociation
Sometimes you go into shock and emotionally shut down. Just because it’s not blubbering or explosive, doesn’t mean it lacks emotion or feeling. Jake is experiencing such intense grief, that he isn’t able to express it. It’s not less or more emotion than the others, it’s just his way.
He is a good dad I think he was in shock and disbelief but probably he was like broken inside :( like I watched the film twice in a row and that part got me every time :(

There is actually so much emotion in his eyes. Remember that Jake was and still has human features. When we don’t show emotion in the face, our eyes will show how we’re feeling. That look was the look of a broken father. Think of how many people he lost. He’s lost not only a brother and a son, but he lost friends in war. This dude is barely holding it together
Those who think those little movements and that far off stare aren't his way of showing his emotions didn't pay attention in the first movie and probably don't understand that some people can't cry when things like this happen. They lock up, their heart is going through an earthquake and a hurricane is twisting him on the inside. He did well in this scene.

Jake sully showed emotion. What kind of father would he be if he didn’t show emotion to his first oldest or second oldest son. He cares about his kids so much that he would even kill himself to protect them. And even his own wife. He wouldn’t care about his life anymore without them. They may want him to move on. But he might not of the care he has for them. Jake is a nice guy who cares about his family and would do anything for them. No matter what the risk is. There is always gonna be revenge when somebody attacks or kills the sully family.
I also feel like the Na'vi are much more open to show their emotions, where humans try to hide them. Jake might be a Na'vi now, but he was born human

Man a lot of people hate on jake in the second movie because of how he treats his sons, but the thing is every time he had an outburst at them it was because they had been in danger and he was scared for them. Sometimes when people are scared they react with fury. It’s pretty clear his family adores him even if they don’t always see eye to eye, and he might not be the best with emotion but he literally did everything for them. And he’s def having a hard time processing the grief of losing neteyam. Actually the song that plays on the movie’s credits “nothing is lost” is seemingly from jake to neteyam pov wise. It talks about how he just wanted to protect them and that he’d be living his life patiently until he can see neteyam again. That his love for them is stronger than the sky people and their armies from above. That even if he dies he would still defend them to the end.
Even when he was staring at Neteyam, I already know he's crying inside...

Jake truly loved all his kids. Whenever they put themselves in danger or do something stupid, he always checks to see if they are okay before scolding them.

He was in shock. His body language showed the most emotion. Take it from me, I have been through many traumatic deaths.
When Lo'ak finds Jake in the ship barely above water. Jake mistaken Lo'ak for Neteyam and Lo'ak apologizes to his father that he is not the son he wanted. That was so sad because you could tell how Jake was grieving internally. I know some people missed that part in the movie.
Jake is also from military background and they're taught to block their emotions. Especially during battle. But at the end of the movie when everything is over he does cry when he sees his son again in the afterlife. Because it was safe for jake to let go of his emotions. Plus he wanted to be strong for bus family at the time of his sons death

People who say this think emotions equals crying and that’s not true. Every time Jake lost a loved one we see him dissociating and in a state of shock, following up with going into a state of action. He did it with Tommy, Grace, and now Neteyam.

Everyone grieves differently … he grieved inwardly until he couldn’t anymore. The shock n the realisation that his first born son has just died in his arms is all there. The pain is raw for every single person grieving there. I kinda relate to how he grieves tbh some ppl cry outwardly as their world feels like it’s falling apart but others disassociate at first… and then break many times alone n in secret …

The shock is too great for him to turn it into raw emotions. I bet it hit him harshly later on. I hope we get to see more of Neteyam in the 3rd movie... maybe through memories

People say that Jake isn't as brave and more cowardly in this movie but I don't think so at all. In the first movie he didn't care about anyone or anything. he was just going with the flow. he had nothing to loose. Now he has everything to loose. A beautiful wife, two handsome sons, and two beautiful daughters. If Neytiri and Jake hadn't started their family yet by having children this movie would have taken place in the Pandora's forrest because Jake would have had no problem fighting with Qauritch again right then and there. He ran because he was afraid for children. He just wanted to protect them.
I think that Neytiri's screams really stole the show, they were so impactful that all other character's reactions seemed like nothing
Big thing here is that he is/was a Marine. He likely is dealing with the grief but also PTSD and in the WORST way possible so his lack of emotion is likely moreso due to his training, PTSD and just general shock than “oh he doesn’t care”. As someone who is a military brat the way he reacted was very realistic IMO

Being in shock because ur son died is an emotion. It is the feel of feeling everything all at once, sadness, anger, and a little in between. I felt the same way with my pup and my little cousin died. I showed no emotion untill a few days later, when it hit me all at once. I fell on the floor and throw things around. It takes time for some people to comprehend what has had to the ones they love.
