Would you say using both the Essentials in Literature and Writing in one school year, would be 1 credit in Language Arts, or 1 credit in Literature and another in Composition? Their website is not really clear on this.

I just bought EIL and I flip through it I don’t like the novel it came with it’s a little too dark and unappropriate. Did you feel the same way by any chance?

Im interested in the writing. I wonder if i can only purchase the spiral book. Im on a small budget and im cutting all extras. Just want what is essentially needed.
Thanks for doing this as I too have had a difficult time finding reviews on this curriculum. What did you and your student think of the reading selections? Did you find their optional 34 week plan easy to follow? Do you grade the work?
We enjoyed the reading and the 34 week plan was easy to follow. The work wasn't overwhelming where you couldn't get it done in 30min or less (depending on the day). I graded all of the assessment work at the end of each reading.
@@acarolinahomeschooler7727 Any thoughts on the videos? We've used EIW 4, 8 & 9 and EIL 9. I didn't get to watch the videos with my kids, but I've watched many samples and I fear my 7th grader is going to dread watching them. Thankfully they're short, but the subject matter, especially the grammar, is what I think he's going to find so boring.
@@rochellegrilla6361 My son was not crazy about the videos. I had him watch some of them but we skipped a lot and just worked together through the work.

I just ordered Essentials in writing and Essentials in Literature for my 8th grader.

Thanks. How long are the videos? How many minutes?
The lesson videos are about 5 min or so on average. Some are shorter. It just depends on what is being taught. If the lesson is new or review.

About how long does the whole lesson take and is it done daily?
The lessons are daily but every few weeks they have a week off. Each lesson takes about 30-40min depending on the work load that day.
