Although, I don't think foreign entities should be able to buy property in the US unless they have an American subsidiary that has been vetted. Anyone who thinks it is okay Not to question these sales has their head in the sand…maybe Saudi sand. Look at what was allowed to be sold in Arizona! Acres of land leased the the Saudis under Trump and a Republican Governor…the Saudis are pumping millions of gallons of water from our dwindling ground water to grow feed FOR THEIR COWS! They ship is back to their country. Communities in the surrounding area are getting very low and ARIZONA FARMERS are being told there isn’t enough water for their crops! And Trump and TX Governor Abbot approved the sale of the largest oil refinery in Texas to the Saudis. What happened to their mantra of making America great again? Seems to me they are stealing from Americas just so Trump and the Saudis and other foreign governments will eventually cripple and/or own us.

You can have one company owned by a dozen companies, each of those companies owned by other companies and all of those companies owned by a single entity to simplify records.... And have that entity owned by several companies, which are owned by entities controlled by the extended family of people who don't want to be exposed for being involved. Also, this is all assuming each link is done according to the law and properly maintained.
Also, each entity involved can be based in any state or foreign nation. It can be extremely challenging to find who owns something if they don't want to be found.
