Love this, as I'm currently making a straw hat with a carved wooden hand on top holding up its two fingers in a peace sign that's big at festivals, and in the past I've macramed chin straps but really like this band idea that adds a nice touch.
The hat you are making sounds beautiful! I am sure the macrame strap would be a nice addition. Happy creating!
Thanks. I made it and was amazing. I had a trip with my family and needed to redecorate my old hat. Easy tutorial instructions ❤

Can the band be made to be thicker with more strings, for example a 3 in wide band?
Yes you could definitely make the band thicker! You would just need to repeat the pattern with the extra strings. Good luck!
Beautiful 🙏 how long were the strands left you cut in the end, I don't want to waste too much mine, so maybe 2 meters would be enough no?
As some cords are used a lot more in the knotting then others, there are some that will finish quite short (ie. they won’t need to be trimmed) and a few that will need quite a lot trimmed off. I wouldn’t use cords any less than 2.5m and even then I’m not sure they would be long enough. You should only have a couple of metres left over with 3m cords. I hope that makes sense and helps a little!
No, I used 3.2m of 3mm for each strand and had to add more as only made 15 diamonds. Circumference of hat I used was 59 cms and only went 3/4 around.
Beautiful pattern though.
where do I get the hat?
I got mine from www.bashiri.com.au
