absolutely they did- real legends came from the pride division- pride fights were unbelievably violent and entertaining most of the time- almost all the old legends came from pride- think of pride as a professional tough man competitions- many many fights were just that- two folks trying to out tough the other dude- very little wrestling or jujitsu- you will never see another devision like pride again- look up pride fights on youtube for some true mma classics

compared with today's mma- yes, there was very little- today it's practically all wrestling and jujitsu- The old school fighters still prefer standing and banging, but many many many of the younger fighters go for the wrestling jujitsu- I stand by what i said- Pride had some of these skills too- no doubt- but it was more of a tough man contest atmosphere- back then- Yes Gracie broguht jujitsu in more- but most back then were bangers-

CrackinJacks138 UFC bought the name for 60 mill, but all the contracts were illegal, hence why we didn't get fedor, overeem (at the time) etc, UFC coudent get a TV deal in Japan, so UFC merged the titles etc with the people the did sign, (Hendo,Wandelei) then Mr Sakikakibara opened up Rizin.
The UFC is run by insecure tough guys like Dana who can't handle men acting like men. So he makes them stay quite and act politically correct etc.
You could never have this kind of interview in today's climate.
