The political party was founded by 6 Marxist students in Europe, while Armenia was under the rule of the Ottoman empire. One of the first death victims of the genocide were Hunchakian politicans who were hung in Constantinople, called the Hunchakian gallows. After the Marxist-leninist political party (Armenian Secret Army / ASALA), enemy of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (Dashnak party), was dissolved many members like Gevorg Guzelian and Vazgen Sislian had joined the Hunchakian party, another natural enemy of the Dashnaks.
