Imagine if Gol D Roger was actually royalty in his homeland(not sure if the island Loguetown was in had a king) but decided to be a pirate instead.
That would really add to his words to refuse Shiki's offer and may explain why the World Government hid Roger's family name of Gol. Remember they didn't remove his D on his poster but merged it with his family name. Perhaps his family were important.

i agree with your points Morj, although i just simply wouldn’t bet on Joy Boy’s story to be an absolute mirror of only Oden’s story. More like, we’ve gone through so many arcs and various motives like to repeat themselves over and over.

So would you say nobody else was sailing the seas before Joyboy including the other kingdoms? If so for what reason?.
What if Poseidon ruled the seas at the time of Joyboy, controlling the Sea Kings to dominate them. It would interesting if Joyboy, born with the original Voice of All Things, was able to communicate and become an ally of Poseidon to then freely sail the seas. The new freedom as the first Pirate allowed him to become an ally of Zunesha too who nobody would have seen before if they weren't exploring the seas.
Wano was closed off for a reason derived from the time of Joyboy, but there must have been a huge reason to deny sea travel for the Ancient Kingdom.

    • @rensten4893

@Nightsu Sure, but if he's the first pirate, who else sailed the seas? We don't have enough information but the first implies no one else was doing it before them. So we have no idea about the sea levels or anything but have been told that the levels rose. I can only think for now that there were large land masses that made sea travel unnecessary until more information is revealed.

I think when vegapunk says that joyboy is the first person to take to the seas i think he means that Joyboy was the first person to conquer the seas and travelled all over the world since if u reread only vegapunk's dialouge in 1115 u get a feel that Vegapunk is trying to say that Joyboy was only labeled a Pirate once he spread his counter ideology to his group or allies which must of been international or globally making them pirates too which the 20 Kings feared his influence, the ancient kingdom would only be a secondary threat due to them making the ancient weapons and possibly devil fruits

Addung to this: Elbaf was probably still an island back in the days of the supercontinent, and Joyboy traveled to it and established himself as a legend after defeating numerous Giant warriors. He also battled Sea Kings hand to hand, flooring the expectations of everyone because only powerful battleships could hope to cobtend with them. He also fought the creatures who are now known as the Gorosei. Joyboys journey was likely similar to Luffys, except instead of trying to find the One Piece, he was sailing all over, fighting everyone who would dare try to match his strength.

I think the D is just a symbol just like the half moon that was on the feet of the kozuki supporters. Might seem really really REALLY silly, but, The first names of the people with D. in their names are the names of Joyboy's vassals (Jaguar, Trafalgar, Marshall, Gol, Portgas, etc.) If we follow the whole inherited will thing, then it makes sense that as support grew, others took on the D. in their name, the same way the kozuki supporters took the half moon symbol in show of support/allegiance.

The reason why he's always connected to it in our point of view is because he wrote the Poneglyph which is the only remaining object that wasn't removed from the void century. I think this is a good theory and I think you can take it even further. The name “joyboy” itself. Why would someone be named that? It’s seems odd, but looking at Oden’s story, you can see how one could get that nickname. Similar to Oden who was convinced by Orochi to dance naked in the Flower Capital, I believe JoyBoy did something similar. After a while, he became a laughingstock because he was always so happy and nicknamed him joy boy. Then by the time of his death, people realized what he was doing and cried/laughed at his execution. You can even throw in Yasuie’s story in here too. His joyous good nature, what he meant to his village, and at his execution he died laughing…and the entire crowd laughed in grief.

Something is clearly missing here. How is joyboy the first pirate when vegapunk clearly says there were multiple continents and that they were much more advanced than the present day.
If that is true sea trading and people wanting to attack the trade ships would have been there already.
Another thing to consider what did joyboy want to discover what was the allure that made him go to sea.
I think in joyboys time there were legends just as present day and that something very big had happened before that made sea travel almost impossible. I think vegapunk is Missing a huge piece about the history before joyboy's time a history if a time where there were pirats and sea trade but then something thing big happened and it all stopped and tge first one to try again was joyboy.

Strong insight about Oden and Joy Boy. Fits really well, makes a lot of sense to me. Also I interpret it as there was clear interference, but I also think Oden realized Kaido would have eventually beaten him anways, but just imo.

What if someone has to go back in time to Void Century to help create the Will of D and prepare to end the war for Dawn. That's why there is a specific date and year known for JoyBoys return.
And this doesn't create any paradoxes because of the void century itself, the person going back has no idea what happens in that time and cannot change it (besides what they are meant to change).
Maybe the story thats in Laughtale even told Roger pirates to not spoil it for Joyboy.

Have yall notice in every arc theres one character who betrays luffy then apologizes as well? Mr.2, Ussop, nami, sanji, and so on think about it they do it because they got no choice but then realized their mistakes. II have more to add to this theory that proves it right. My background 11 years worth of rereading the manga and show. I go deep as well nice to see common fellas!

Something to add to this is that it goes with how the ancient kingdom likely isn’t just “the good guys”. The Kozuki caused orocchis clan to be so bitter by treating them Terribly for years if I remember correctly. The ancient kingdom could have been rather oppressive and generally unhelpful to the other kingdoms which caused the 20 kings to resent them.

There's a brilliant parrallel between Ace and his father Roger as well, Ace went to Wano even before Luffy BUT IT WAS TOO SOON FOR HIM, he gave Tama and Yamato hope that someone was coming along, and finally Luffy did. And just as Ace was a bit too soon to fulfill Oden's will, Roger was a generation too early to fulfil Joyboy's. Roger heralded Luffy's arrival, left behind Rayleigh as a guide for Luffy, juslike Ace was the reason Yamato acted as Luffy's guide. That would be so poetic man, full circle and in his own microcosmic sense Roger ended up mirroring his son in helping Luffy out.

I always believed that Oden knew of Kaido defeat because he knew JoyBoy would be back in 20 years. And for him to be back he’ll need the ancient weapons. I think oden thought he’d be the one to open the borders but once he realized he was gonna die he knew it was gonna be someone else and for that to happen Kaido would have to be defeated. Toki’s words are of the SH for the final battle not the Wano final battle. Love the full circle moment with this connection.

Looking forward to this. I’m really curious to see how Oda will connect all of this information together. Because if done well( like he’s doing so far), One Piece might actually buck the trend of a lot of Shonen jump titles in having a good ending. The one series where I felt like it ended strong enough for me to want to go back was Zatch Bell or Gatch Bell.

If the world was One Piece, there probably wouldn't be much reason for anyone to have a boat in the first place, perhaps some riverboats for transport, but none that could handle the sea. Whoever lead the first boat that could handle it, would easily be pointed as the first pirate.
Also I think the brain brain fruit is quite important here, Joyboy most certainly had someone in his crew with the devil fruit. While I got no clue what that implies, I think it's an important piece of the puzzle.

  • @Eatingsundew499

The fact that Rodger left “everything the world has to offer” has such a deeper meaning now. The One Piece being left by Joy Boy means that it contains riches from the PRE FLOOD era. Also the term “Pirate King” or “King of the Pirates” means so much more of Joy Boy was a king and a pirate. Taking a guess but maybe the ancient kingdom was named Pirate or maybe the people of this kingdom were named “Pirates” and its land consisted of all the oceans with a Hachinosu type hub island being the actual ‘Ancient Kingdom’

  • @animepunk3167

It would be better if Joy Boy wasn't a royalty, but freed Ancient kingdom from a corrupt ruler, becoming both a pirate and a kingdom's hero in the process. There should be more "liberation" vibes for a person who awakened Nika fruit

I think what you've said is possible, as oda has done this sort of repeating pattern before.
I'd add that in my view before joyboy there was something in the world blocking pirates from being created:
There used to be 1 huge supercontinent and the seas were unsafe, joyboy was the first one to sail.
Maybe the seas were created by the use of Uranus and as an answer Poseidon and Pluton were created, thus they were the first "illegal" people on the sea.

What if JoyBoy discovered something behind the scenes and noticed something was going on in the kingdom? What if he himself, noticed the water levels rising and set out to find out what was going on? Then returned after discovering something important but it was too late.

    Other similarities not mentioned:
Kozuki Oden's followers had a symbol to stealthily show their alegiance to the Kozuki's = Moon
Could be the same with Joyboy's allies = D
After Oden loses, Wano is ruled over by a Dragon
After Joyboy loses, the world is ruled over by Dragons (Tenryuubito)

The theory that i came up with is that the one piece is just an poneglyph which has written about the journey of the joyboy and his crew every thing that has happend while the whole crew was travelling and all the funny stuffs just like the ones that we laughed at when funny things happend with straw hat pirates and thats why rager and the rest of the crew laughed so hard and at the end of the poneglyph they wrote about every thing happend to the whole crew and most likely the one who wrote thing on that poneglyph died on the laughtale island and thats why he was able to write about every thing about the void century thats why roger and his crew knew about the void century and the fact they all laughed so hard was because of all the funny stuffs happed to the joyboys crew while they were travelling which could be the main reason why roger said that he wished he could have been able to live as the same era as you joyboy. Well that concludes my theory about the one piece

Maybe haki is also somehow related to inherited will. For example it could be that the straw hat has a strong coating of haki just like swords. Due to the coating, it doesnt get damaged easily. I mean the straw hat has literally been through fire - marineford, boro breath by kaido etc and never burned. I hope that it is not just a plot hole. This could extend to other things like doffy's glasses.
The only time that I recall that the straw hat has been significantly damaged was by buggy. Makes me think if buggy's haki is also somehow related to the straw hat.

  • @davidmalisimke

To add to this, you could say that Wano further showcases Wano because A. Wano also has a tyrannical ruler, afraid of somebody stronger (and freeer) then himself coming to undermine his authority and undo the revenge he has plotted. B) the scabbards and the likely allies of Joyboy failed, and feel apologetic. No crew that all fought their hardest has ever felt apologetic. Example Shank’s crew are all stoic. The same can be said for Roger’s crew. Rayleigh has “failed” but simultaneously he knows that it simply wasn’t his time and he never did anything to get in Roger’s way. Meanwhile the scabbards could not stand besides and convince their lewder to stand up, they couldnt protect him and give back the ciurage that he once gave them. Similarly the WB pirates, all being young, “children” of WB, and not strong enough, similarly all feel kinda bad for Marine Ford. Here it was again his own crew that did not “stand by him” in the sense that they did not have the same unwavering conviction as him.
I believe in the end the strawhats will stand by Luffy when he himself begins to lose hope and possinly even lose some of that gear 5 magic. This moment will (in my head) be instigated by Ussopp, concluding his character arc. This is why he had to CLEARLY remain a coward until that moment. A single moment so big it makes you almost happy you had to wait so long to get it.

What if everyone in the Ancient Kingdom were cursed by the Sea like Devil Users? Maybe Devil Fruits were produced there and everyone had them.
Their society could have deemed the seas to be "unsafe" kind of like how the Celestial Dragons wear a Scuba Tank to "dive" into the unsafe land below the Red Line.
Joyboy could have been the first Devil Fruit user to decide to brave the seas anyway.

funny because in your last theorie you mentionned that luffy is the representation of bajong (something like that), in the myth of bajong, he lift a city in order to put it on a mountain. Wich is somewhat what momonosuke did with the kaido island. If we link both theorie then momonosuke is the receptacle of Oden will, wich is the receptacle of Joy boy will. So joyboy will made momonosuke lift a nisland, exactly like in baharogan myth wich is in itself linked to luffy.
My bad my english is bad but i think you understand where i am going.

sorta makes me think of the reasoning behind joyboy's apology to fishman island. since wano ended, i had always wondered the reasoning plot-wise as to why wano's borders should still be shut even despite it being such a major part of oden's will. of course i understand momonosuke's reasoning -- he wants to protect it from the dangers of the outside world for now. maybe that's a similar reason to why joyboy never brought the fishmen to the surface using the noah? the world outside (particularly the 20 kingdoms' alliance) was still too discriminatory to fishmen and it would have ultimately put them in major danger until he was capable of winning the war, which was something that was never fulfilled, obviously. the fishmen keeping noah intact coulda been cus they were aware joyboy would return, i imagine
