    I was with the 1st I.D.during Desert Sabre Shield/Storm , and spent a few days with the Desert Rats around Nasiriyah. They were cold as they did not pack cold weather gear and the oil fires blocked out the sun. At night our breath would produce a thin layer of ice on the inside ceiling of our armor vehicles. I traded one of the Desert Rats one of my heavier field jackets for one of his British battle dress shirts with his units insignia, and we swapped rations. British rations were far better than US rations… that was a one time trade lol , those guys hated our MRE’s.

    I got called up for Dessert Storm but it was over before I got out of the states. Later that year there was an interview with an Armor Colonel who was talking to an Iraqi General about the General's unit surrendering. The Iraqi General wanted time before surrendering. Just then one of the MIAIs lurched forward(by accident). The Colonel(taking advantage of the situation) told the General, my men smell blood, I don't know how much longer I can hold them back. The General surrendered immediately. I wish that I could find that interview.

      Myself and three others were in Kuwait in April of 1991 putting in a microwave linked trucked radio system as the Iraqis stole all the equipment so no inter exchange phone calls could be made. I had a cough from the smoke from oil wells burning for many months after my return home. Were spent a month in UAE putting equipment in modules and doing some pretesting. We flew in on a Kuwaiti military passenger jet.i saw a lot of hard line being made up to pump water from the ocean to the oil wells.

    It was a very missmatched war in terms of budget, cultural inliligent and advance thinking to forecast results, why it is mysterious that Saddam did not see an attempt to withdraw his troops from Kuwait. Perhaps this is proof that we live in a simulated universe that we have no power to refuse but to simulate wars.

    • @twright3802
      @twright3802 ปีที่แล้ว

      No...and yes....No, because you are sarcastically referring to the wrong war. This war was due to the fact that Sadam Hussein was preparing to attack Saudi Arabia ( notice I did not say " because he invaded Kuwait ") and would give him control of 1/5th of the worlds oil supply. Yes, because there were no WMDs found in the gulf war when dummy bush, lying ass cheney, and incompetent rumsfeld started a war that should have led them to be charged with war crimes.

      I would bet you that even if Iraq wanted to pull out prior to the January 91 deadline that the coalition would do everything in their power to not allow it. It would have never paved the way for the cabal of western powers to eventually invade and conquer Iraq 12 years later

    Well,here you can see what drives USA and Britain. Pure example.See what they've done in Iraq-this was over in a brick of time,and just few months after this,IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FREAKIN' EUROPE started war. First Slovenia,then Croatia and Bosnia were attacked from Serbia and occupied for 4 and a half years. 4 and half years Europe and the whole west DID NOTHING. And why is that? Because Croatia and Bosnia and Slovenia doesn't have the oil. It's THAT SIMPLE.

    • @franciscook5819
      @franciscook5819 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's pretty infantile to compare a foreign invasion of a sovereign state (Iraq invades Kuwait) to the break up of a disparate federation of ethnicities (Yugoslavia) formerly held together by one man, Tito, and the consequent conflicts. The UN passed numerous resolutions ultimately enforcing military action against Iraq. The whole Yugoslavia/Serbia/Croatia/Bosnia/Slovenia disaster was not militarily solvable in the same way as Iraq/Kuwait. I am still appalled by the inaction and loss of life in the multiple wars and conflicts in the former Yugoslavia and I wish the arms embargo, imposed in 1991, had been effective in stopping the warring factions. But if you choose to decry the west, and in particular the USA and the UK, then you need to provide some concrete idea of what they could do, in a little detail, absent a UN mandate for armed military intervention (UN forces were "peacekeepers" but actually only observers - a major mistake). I respect your passion and anger about the situation but the two scenarios are very different.
