I've always wanted to create a hydro system outdoors with feed lines underground but I run into two problems. Putting your emitters underground makes it impossible to check the flow and wont the roots start to clog the emitters over time as well?
Yes, but since it probably won't all happen at once couldn't you just fix those problems as they occur? From the surface, while it may not immediately be visible if one area is particularly dry, at the very least you'll be able to tell if some of the plants aren't receiving adequate water and know to dig up and fix the irrigation they rely on. You may lose some plants this way, and have others damaged or stunted, but as long as this doesn't happen to a significant portion of each crop every year then it should be manageable, at least for some.
I am assuming the lines are connecting to a GPS system? In the US its pretty common to farm via GPS to help with erosion, so is that how its being located for tilling?
There are two variants that can clog a dripper: Internal clogging variants in the irrigated water External clogging variants from the surrounding soil, and plant roots For internal variants: Netafim has a unique labyrinth design with a self-cleaning mechanism, and embedded self-cleaned filter in the dripper. For external variants: if the dripline is a thin wall we add a flap , a physical barrier that protects the dripper from external contaminants, and if it is heavy wall we use in PC driplines an anti-siphon mechanism that prevents suction of dirt into the dripper.
Hi Arif, Deep buried dripperlines in permanent SDI are buried 20-40cm, allowing you ploughing to this depth, the burying depth depends on your soil type, and other consideration , like crop type etc.
Sub-surface Drip Irrigation (SDI) - Your best long term irrigation system Used in Fields, orchards and vegetable crops, SDI is having an enormous and positive impact on the industry. SDI brings environmental, technical and commercial advantages by increasing yields and reducing resources over the long term. From the planning stage, through the growing stage - for multiple crops, water quality, climate and topography - SDI is a proven solution for modern farmers. See how SDI is used in corn fields - in every stage of its growth - again and again.
Hi Netafim reps, Our company is planning to apply mechanization for tobacco cultivation. I found out, this SDI can reduce the number of workers significantly. May I know, whether it is possible to use for tobacco cultivation?
But dont the pipes get uprooted by the plough the next year? And if the machinery is riding on the wet ground above the pipes, dont the pipes shift inside and break? Wont the weight of the machinery clog the pipes forever? How long does this setup last in places where temperatures remain 43deg Celsius plus (and crazy sunlight)?
Netafim Your representative? I mean wouldnt he ask money or sth from me? I dont have a field but I am studying this all so it would be nice if you would reply. You pasted a reply like a bot and that is cool but you could do more to break the traditional corporate behavioral mold. You are from Israel arent you? The startup nation, you biggie companies could learn form the startup revolution too. And its just basic info, it would be even better for you if info flows freely. It wont hurt your business if you answer these questions isnt it. This isnt some sensitive classified info. It would just enhance your image.
Dear drifter13 , Thank you for your question. The questions you ask are very interesting and relevant for SDI, however the answer to them depends on several other factors (e.g. temperature, crop, soil quality, water quality, etc.), and if you could find the time to provide some additional information, we will be happy to quickly reply and provide the answers you need. What is the specific geographical area you interested in? What is the main crop your are interested in receiving information about? Do you have any additional crops you are interested in? How can we contact you (e-mail address and telephone number) and provide you the information you asked for? Looking forward to hearing from you
eer question.if you were to use this system in a bigger field, how is it possible that you will seed(using a tractor and a planter-not shown in the vid) without ripping the pipes off?
The pipes are installed below the tillage zone so that all future operations will not affect them. Also future operations are guided, so that heavy machinery like tractors for example will not compact the area where pipes are installed
If you have sub-surface irrigation couldn't you apply any traditional spray chemical via the irrigation system as opposed to paying to have it sprayed?
Hey ur concept is good bt. For next crop it cannot be used. After 3-4 month we have to prepare the farm for next crop which obviously not again same crop.
