  • In this hands-on review, we go in-depth and talk about Buckle Down's seat belt buckle dog collar. This stylish dog collar comes in three different sizes including 1.5' which is great for larger breeds or those with bigger & thicker necks. Furthermore, it comes in a wide range of design and features quality construction to ensure long term durability. Most importantly and a key unique aspect is the satisfying and unique buckle mechanism that is used for the dog collar. It is not only simple and extremely secure but satisfying when it "clicks" into place helping you to know you have successfully placed the collar on your dog.
Check out the video to find out how it wears over time, the materials used and how it holds up to cleaning and overall day to day wear.

Thanks for your review! It’s very helpful for me! I’m always hesitant to buy new collars online, but I love the idea of the seatbelt buckle lock. This video really makes me more confident about purchasing one!

I have two young dobermans who love to play and will on occasion need to be held back from the front door. After having this collar for about a year (and hopefully with everyday use) do you think the collar is sturdy enough for large breed, strong dogs?

In regards to your question, yes I do feel this is a good dog collar in the event you need to hold and restrain your dog. Of course, you want to train your dog to be comfortable with abrupt motions of grabbing their collar. Ideally, do this with sit training so when you grab the collar they will sit. Another option that is good for large breeds is considering a collar with a "cobra buckle" they are more expensive. Generally, around 50 to 70 dollars but they are generally the absolute best collars in regards to not coming off. Outside of these, I feel that the buckle down are the best due to their locking mechanism. Unlike plastic buckle collars which can flex, pop or snap. Traditional collars with a buckle and pin also can become loose especially if there is a lot of motion or play so if you want to ensure the collar stays on, I would go with one of these. Thanks, fo view and best of luck with pups!

Hey, thinking of getting the same collar for my new boerboel mastiff puppy. Do you think the size small will fit at about eight weeks old?

Congrats on the puppy! Best of luck in the pup being healthy. That is going to be a big beautiful dog. As to the size it is hard to say, large breeds can varying considerably in their size and weight early on. I would expect at least somewhere in the 20 to 30 pound range. I think the small gives you room to grow but a medium might be a little bit of a better option. I have some experience with larger breeds they grow quickly so I think you will be putting into use pretty quick. Another option at a similar cost would be a collar with a good quality pin latch. I will be reviewing one soon but many of these also have a integrated handle which can be nice to train with early on it regards to the dog being accustomed to having the collar held. Ray Allen and Bandied Pines make to great options and a low cost option would be from Excellent Elite Spanker. With that noted the buckle mechanism is extremely hardy and easy to use and I feel better than the entry pin buckle on the Elite. Whatever you chose good luck and thanks for the view and comment.

That is very surprising I have used them with breeds as large as 120+ without issue. I would contact the company and warranty it. I feel they would replace it without issue. Overall from years of use with varied dogs and varied buckle down collars I would have no qualms recommending them.
If looking for something even higher end consider companies that utilize Corba buckles.
