I will agree that watching you take something apart and put it back together is very entertaining. You did try and start it but maybe checking for a spark and/or good gas might have been one of the first things to look at?
I too wondered about checking the spark. Mind you it looked like the thing had had no maintenance done on it for years - do the villagers there ever do any regular preventative maintenance or just use things until they stop working and then park them until they rut away? Whatever, I hope she makes a profit of the the time and effort she puts in to getting things working again.
Hi Terry---I also wonder why things are not maintained better. I would like to think its not because they are indifferent to the need to do so--maybe its a case of not being able to afford to do otherwise?--but if so, that a very expensive short term outlook! The oil in the engine was really bad--and nowhere near as much came out as it should have--the gear oil in the tiller itself looked much better.@@terryloveuk
Exactly my thoughts about the short term thinking, they don't even seem to keep the exterior of equipment cleaned. Then again, I suppose a poor farmer may not have the time and/or knowledge to do much (or am I insulting them?). Still, she makes a bit of money and probably a poorer farmer gets a reconditioned machine which will help him do better in future. It's hard to really imagine the lifestyle from a 1st world point of view.

This particular machine seems to have been used somebody who is not as handy as others are. All that was really needed was a good cleaning, probably some not-shown adjustments, and some clean oil. (The 2 seals that Blacksmith Girl replaced were leaking oil, so to see.) I sort-of doubt that the start-at-first-pull was the REAL first start; most-any engine needs some priming...
Still, this machine was not used THAT hard. Lack of knowledge by the user was probably what caused an early death and so the repair to be rather easy. (My opinion...)
BTW, a LOT of machinery is NOT well-designed from the viewpoint of keeping-it-clean. Way too many nooks-&-crannies, unnecessary edges, &c where dirt can collect. This is an advantage for people like Blacksmith Girl, who make money from cleaning up what the user has no will to spend his time on when he has other more important things to do. This goes for the whole world!
