I met Pete once in High Bridge, Newcastle. He was unbelievably charming and showed me a load of ties he’d just bought from a retro shop. I was just a fan saying hello but he seemed to enjoy the fact I wasn’t asking for anything and just being normal. When he said bye, I said “take care Pete” and he gave me the saddest smile and said “I’ll try.”
“It’s beginning to dawn on me I can’t... basically, I can’t smoke crack anymore.” Anyone who’s struggled with dependency/addiction will understand how he felt in that moment. It doesn’t matter if it’s alcohol, heroin, Xanax, insert addictive drug here. Giving up ANY drug you’ve become dependent on feels like you’re losing a piece of the puzzle that is you. To complicate matters (especially early on in recovery), your brain has a knack for remembering the good times rather than the times you were struggling to stay alive.

Loads of articles about it. Hopefully he's doing well. As an addict in recovery myself I know being overweight doesn't mean you're not using. It can do, and he probably isn't but other drugs, like benzos and pregabs make you gain weight, and antidepressants do too. I've always liked Pete, so whatever stage of his recovery he's at, I wish him the best. He said he's "mostly clean" whatever that means to him. Maybe he's on methadone. Whatever it takes to enable you to live a safer life is a good thing to me

Pete Doherty is a very good songwriter, very poetic lyrics, intelligent guy no doubt. But to say he would have been held in the same regard as Dylan shows that you might not be too familiar with the music scene of the sixties and seventies. That was the time of so many great songwriters, there's a long list. As songwriters all of them lived in Dylans shadow. The best of them, like Paul Simon for example, managed to differentiate themselves and become successful in their own right. John Lennon was never as highly regarded as Bob Dylan as a songwriter. The Beatles wrote great songs together and were probably the most commercially successful band of the era, they then broke up and went solo. Lennon and Harrison were good solo songwriters but they were always in awe of Dylan. In the sixties the Beatles at first were doing simple catchy pop tunes. Lennon brought BDs second album to the group and they had it playing repeatedly at their place. It was that album that inspired them to move away from the pop tunes and to write the more lyrically creative songs on their later records. In summary, there are really good songwriters in the modern age despite what some people say. Pete Doherty is one of them and he is lucky to be blessed with good looks also because with each generation that seems to become more important than the actual music, but he would never have been held in the same regard as Dylan as a songwriter.
When he starts crying after talking about his father, you can tell that they took a break and he went to shoot up heroin. The crook of his arm is covered in blood. Just an example of how people use drugs to regulate emotions, to numb themselves.

I am glad Peter is healthier and seemingly happy now, but when I watch this, I miss my old Babyshambles days. I was at that Get Loaded in the Park gig and every Shambles gig was just pure dopamine. I miss that. sorry, bit nostalgic right now
I disagree on one level with Tonya Gold who said we like watching tragedies and people fail. Sometimes we like to watch someone who says "yes" to a certain lifestyle we have to say "no" to.
I was youngest when i used to see negative stuff about pete, i am only realising now how talented he ìs, addiction destroys our abilities can you imagine were he he would be
I find him fascinating he's so talented smart the way he dresses walks talks yeah I can see why the ladies like him...he's a true artist and most artist who are brilliant all struggle with depression some crazy as shit
I used to really like Pete, and I still love the music. But as a father, seeing him not be there for a kid who obviously wants him around is heart breaking. The kid should come first
Plenty of parents aren’t around all the time for their kids whenever they want...plenty of people are never around. Plenty of people are around sometimes and fuck ppl up even more. Fact is in this day and age we are understanding everyone has struggles- grown ups as much as anyone. As a son of a father who the world pretty unanimously agree woulda been better off for the world him not existing the i don’t think you can slate Pete too heavily- if he’s at least shown His kid he loves him and won’t castigate him or string him up on a line for not being perfect then I think he’s done ok... Finally look at pete- had a dad who was around all the time, mum n dad together but the kid still got hurt... Life’s hard man only thing you can do is try to respond with love and understanding
Nature of addiction though isn't it!?!!! That monkey on your back screams louder than the love you feel for anything else and it is near impossible to get clean (which is why the majority of addicts end up dead!!!) Dont judge what you havent lived basically, none of us should.
Good taste...Hancock's Half Hour. He seems depressed and lost at this time in his life, I find it hard to believe he's clean here, maybe booze and tranquillisers. I hope he's happier and more stable. Addiction is a tough road for anyone. A very talented and driven man. It's sad to see him with his son at 21:57. I hope they have a relationship still.
He's not clean now. He just gave an interview where he said he still uses as for "maintenance" The libs are a shell of what they once we're and it's sad to see them just going through the motions living off of past glories. Cheers, my friend from buffalo new york
i definitely need subtitles. i haven't finished watching cause i intend on looking it up with subtitles.. but up to what i've seen.. that freelance journalist.. she doesn't really seem very intelligent.. i mean okay, she thinks people want to see others fall apart, and it's her opinion that's great, i don't have a problem with that.. but when asked why, she just replies "oh well that comes from a really dark place". seriously? that's your explanation? what does a dark place even mean.. it seems like she doesn't have any kind of argument to support her statement. disappointing.. she is a journalist.. her job is to analyse things. so i thought of what she says, this excitement society feels towards these kind of characters.. i personally do not see him as someone who is falling apart, but "society" probably does.. so i tried to find a reason why people would be entertained by watching someone "fall apart".. and i came up with this: i think people are afraid to get out of their comfort zones.. they just do what they're told.. and that is safe.. you just go to school, finish school, go to uni, get a job to get a house, to raise a family, to buy a car, to go on vacations, to die. don't do drugs. don't drink. sleep 7 hours every day. have a nice hair, have a nice skin, eat "healthy" blah blah blah.. there are all these rules we follow so blindly.. so when they see someone escaping that regime, they want to see them "crumble" cause they want to feel reassured that the life they lead is the "correct" one.. once again i don't see people like pete as someone who's crumbling.. but society does.. or at least they want to, I THINK they desperately want to convince themselves that having this manufactured life is what's good.. they are eating what is being fed to them.. gladly.. because they are too afraid to take the risk of going looking for their own food.
You are right. Have you read the book of Lennon's interview 70's Rolling Stones Magazine? Well. John said: When we started the band, and when also started all the " Beatlemania" I remember a lot of times, that we always ask rooms one by one. I did that, because, in the room of our 2 friends ( Derek Taylor and Neil) they had hookers and heroin, cocaine and other things too. At that time, My drug was the amphetamines, alcohol and Marihuana. But they, had always heroin and cocaine and their tables!!! That's a fact! So, Maybe, some people want Pete being doped, to manipulate him, to record disc. Jimi Hendrix was in this chaos too, and also the other artists of that decade. Kurt Cobain said: Every time, 10 years, each one by one, came out, suddenly a really good band. And when we were that band in the 90's, We were chosen to represent the group of this decade. That says to me: The records company, take always advantage with the artist. Rape me, was a song written and dedicated to all the big record company.
Yeah i think that's definitely very probable.. it'd be so ironic though, wouldn't it? that this people we see as rule breakers and rebels end up being just another set of puppets for the system.. just to entertain us, create obsessions, fandoms, cults, and basically raise more money.. if you think about it, most musicians are so restrained.. like for example: who in their right mind would agree to tour for 10 months straight or even more, playing every night or every two nights??? no matter how much you enjoy it, i don't think anyone would really chose to do that. to not even know what city you are in, getting dragged from place to place, interview to photoshoot.. seriously, are we really going to believe that they need that or else they wouldn't make enough money??? i don't buy it. i don't understand why musicians agree to it either. i don't know..I guess everything's much more complex than it seems..
caro Exactly. Like John and also Keith Richards said: We like be in home. The tour are exhausting to me. I prefer to made an album and record it. And that's all. What you say is truth.!
Idk, as I read comments that journalist is getting ALOT of hate, maybe rightfully so... but she's not a psychologist, so when she says it comes from "a dark place in the human soul" maybe she doesn't quite know exactly where it comes from? Which is okay, she's allowed to not know. I personally love Pete more than any other artist today, but what she says is true. People did turn up for public executions, there are a ton of death videos online, people buy up tabloids and tabloid trainwrecks like they're going out of style, she's right- people like to see other people fall apart. It makes them feel better about their own lives (my opinion).
No, i know she's not a psychologist i just thought her explanation was too vague.. you don't need to know for certain.. but you can form a theory, at least explain the reason behind your statement.. that's what bothered me. Also, i wanted to expose "my theory" haha

He’s very honest and you have to respect it. He doesn’t hide any of his drug use or negatives. As though it’s almost never occurred to him that he might. There are a lot of people that use drugs and do similar things but hide it well. Pete doesn’t seem to feel the need to. Or maybe he just can’t now so he’s forced to own it.
Its mad when your an addict, I couldn't trust anyone either but I could trust my dealers ! Thats what my drug did to me , really struggled like everyone else that got addicted to thid drug , I still bump into people that are still using , some that are into a 25yrs habit and are still alive .

Pete still going strong in his 40s and there's athletes In there 20s dropping dead..
football players 27yr old dropping dead on the pitch this guy kieth Richard's and others still happy making music.. life's a funny old game
Heroin actually extends your life, as long as you don't OD
Pete is an absolutely wonderful poet
Lokking forward to the new movie x
He’s very honest and you have to respect it. He doesn’t hide any of his drug use or negatives. As though it’s almost never occurred to him that he might. There are a lot of people that use drugs and do similar things but hide it well. Pete doesn’t seem to feel the need to. Or maybe he just can’t now so he’s forced to own it.
I'd say he's open about the drug use cause he likes the attention
His vocal/lyric style is like a modern day Steve Harley with a bit of a different edge.
😂 very well observed
It actually is!
Although Pete isn’t a one hit wonder with mediocre instrumentation
get intoxicated with wine, poetry or virtue!
Or all three at once...😂
Its mad when your an addict, I couldn't trust anyone either but I could trust my dealers !
Thats what my drug did to me , really struggled like everyone else that got addicted to thid drug , I still bump into people that are still using , some that are into a 25yrs habit and are still alive .
I do.
4 ods on my back.
Still, I would say, alive.

"He sought the old scenes with eager feet -
The scenes he had known as a boy;
"Oh, for a draught of those fountains sweet,
And a taste of that vanished joy!"
Burroughs, the naturalist, I mean the other.
By the way, you have a rare sense of poetry, to rally the tree and the sky.
can't understand a word Pete's saying tbh
He has a very strong british accent
what song are they performing at the beginning

14:54 looks like Adam jumped in his time machine and went back to 1965 and picked up his hat and then on the way back he stopped off in 1995 and picked up that mobile phone.

What's he drinking around 6:30? It looks like some kind of liqueur, but it's in something that looks more like a beer bottle.

Depression written all over this man . Gear makes it better but getting the gear makes it woŕse .
It’s hard to come down to the real world
What folk don't get is that it all relys on the songs. He said so in an old interview. What he lost was the song as he continued. Really the attention from the press killed his graft. All the drama helped the band gain infamy but fucked everything else.
Opiates/crack/ those sorts of things...ETOH ⚫ your soul. Cannabis for medicinal reasons and psychedelics for trauma are the only drugs that will heal ya soul. Bless ya Pete. Glad you are off opiates etc and alive.you are very talented. I love watching 👀 😍 you and Carl ❤ together.I hope you and your son have a lovely friendship. All the best from Perth, Australia.

Don't Look Back Into The Sun - Libertines
Good swimmer!

Never amounted to much in the States but I've got an open mind. So I watched 20 minutes and I'm still clueless b/c I couldn't understand a fucking word he mumbled. So, still a mystery...
*****
Couldn't tell ya. I could give a f*ck less about hip hop. I'm getting old, dude. If I heard my musical preferences now 10 yrs ago I would've kicked my own ass.
Btw- my comment wasn't meant to imply some dumbass America's got this Britain's got that. I have endless British influences. Check out my channel, I imagine we could coexist just fine. Cheers.
wow- so many can not hear him and he speaks well just quietly.
Must be this guy is from across the pond can't understand English lol

47:58 hahahaaa using his crack pipe as a slide for the guitar, haha. Oh Pete you don't/didn't give a shit did you... Fair play, fair play.
Small things amuse small minds
One midweek morning I got stopped by the old bill in SOHO's "piss ally", outside my work. They mistook me for Pete. He'd been shoplifting and ran past me 2 mins earlier. I obviously sent the officers in the opposite direction. I think they still caught poor old Pete, in the end though?
This "journalist" is effing atrocious , by the way.
mad to think how someone you picture being loaded would shoplift
What is he drinking?
Looks like egg nog? Very rock n roll
How about 0:34?
