Indeed. Actors need to remember that the director is the boss. His job is literally telling everyone what to do, so if an actor is going to moan but doesn't have the balls to sit in the captain's chair themselves then they should stfu.

One director iv never gone to search what ratings he has for movies because he has blown me away so many times I know I watching a master at work and I think he is saying here he got into this late in his life that's mad to think. Its like he was born ro make master pieces. Even RAISED by Wolves. I saw he was only doing a few episodes I was still watching it as Sci fi is my favourite genre and then I see Travis Fimmel is in it after watching Vikings I was like this man sees the best in actors like iv seen. Travis Fimmel carried that Vikings show on his back and made it look so good it was never as great when he was killed of. But what Life has taught me is that people who say such things(Such as those that say they Hate Drama) are usually the ones that create it in the first place. And No Doubt Ridley got to where is (and is good at what he does) because he's good at this. But if Ridley was a B-level Actor dealing with Bossy Directors. This was at/after one of those conventions in Stockton CA, where some 'Agency' was seeking out talent. Anyway, later on we were filling out paperwork for my daughter as a formality, and the secretary girl whatever remarked to me that she noticed I'm Australian and that *my* performance was good, and had I ever considered acting. I told her I didn't really know, and the very next thing she said to me was 'Could you lose the accent?"

The Possum Exactly. All the people that would have been using social media for honestly sharing their thoughts have realized that's not exactly encouraged now. It's pretty much glorified press and the press itself has just gone off the deep end. They think bringing something back that appeals to both old and new fans is pretty much win win.

I think the studios forced him to change the whole picture so far in the production he couldn't just stop. Prometheus is visually a masterpiece, but with so many plot holes and ridiculous behavior that it was a real disappointment for me. And I didn't expect it to be about Aliens, just something slightly familiar. I'm sorry, I cant approve this project. Hopefully Covenant will show more logic and respect to the franchise.

What, did you seriously expect anyone to address your contention that taste for something is somehow restricted to those who know how to create this thing? Like, you can't say a certain food tastes bad unless you know how to cook it? Ridley Scott's job is to make movies. My job is to watch them. If the movie I'm watching is to my liking, I praise it. If it is not, I trash it. Somehow this seems to bother you. Why is that? Are you a Liberal or something?

  • @Eikinkloster
    @Eikinkloster 15 ปีที่แล้ว

That's why for ratings I consider the critics, not the dumb masses. And the critics say ever since Thelma & Louise, with an 88 rating on Metacritic, Ridley Scott has been always underwhelming, with only two moments of relative relief in Blackhawk Down, with a 74 and American Gangster with a 76. Gladiator got a mere 64, only one point above Kingdom of Heaven, another piece of trash.

  • @Eikinkloster

Now, as a rationalist, I invite you to criticize my sacred cows (Tarkovsky & Kubrick) while I'll hold no punches against yours. Or even mine when I feel like. Rationalists tend to choose the cows precisely by how they stand up to criticism. While group thinkers won't care if lives are lost, as far as no feelings are hurt (their group's feelings, naturally).

It sounds to me more like he is justifying his own arrogance. After all arrogant people like to displace their own thuggish behavior and blame others. Often blaming others for their own weaknesses and inadequacies. He does not appear to really want a compromise or cooperation.

  • @wasteland70

@Libraloco73 The problem with actors is that they think they are the artists. Some are and those who are will give themselves to the vision on the film. Others, who are not, try to convey something that is not important to the final vision. I'd hate to think Harrison Ford is an asshole.

But in the interviews I've seen him give, he comes across to me as having an unfortunate manner and I can see how that could cause problems on the set.

I think he's being a bit facetious here in that he's a pretty smart guy and talked about how on Alien he kind of created purposely the atmosphere that made the actors feel somewhat confused and claustrophobic, because it made it that much easier to get them to act....confused and claustrophobic. Not much is said by Harrison Ford about this, but from a long time ago when I read some stuff it was that Harrison Ford wanted to know if he was a replicant or what his 'basis' was, and that feeling was exactly what Ridley Scott wanted in the character. Meaning he had to manipulate Harrison Ford, a guy who isn't easily manipulated and likely doesn't like it much....as evident from the fact he almost never talked about it again.

  • @rathraven1313

The director is the storyteller. It's about how well the story is told. And how well he chooses the stories he is going to tell. Plus it's not like anyone was saying "wow, the directing techniques displayed on gladiator are amazing, regardless". People are going for the broad "wow, Gladiator kicked ass". And it didn't. It's a lousy, supremely irritating movie. It has amazing scenes. But the scenes together make up for a lousy story.

Ya well i wish that he would have addressed weather or not he felt or should have felt or even recognised that big companies like hollywood usuall try to be careful to an absolute degree with there investment decisions, and weather or not if maybe he should have been more complyable in his early hollywood years. I would agree with anyone though who sais he pro sees that and his opinion is probably that if he was more ok with changing the direction of his work for others it would not as good.

If only more directors asserted themselves like Mr. Scott we wouldn't see so many films fucked up by self-inflated actors who insist on changing 1000 things in order to make themselves look better at everyone else's expense.

Agreed..I don't know about the Harrison hate in the comments..
I believe both men are good at what they do(Scott above just good, great) and we know nothing about the actual interactions...We can presume a lot about two strong willed individuals having a fallout but we weren't there, you can't just say: ''Harrison was being a dick..."
Anyway they are on good terms now so its irrelevant. And while I like the ambiguous ending...Deckard is human. The book and the film script had him as human..
