As a blind woman who has gone on many first dates... I can say it's sadly rare to find a man this respectful of a woman disability. There have been far too many times men have been rude, disrespectful, judgmental, and use the date as a time to play 21 questions about blindness and then dip. They seem to be uninterested in getting to know me, and interested in getting to know about blindness. Don't get me wrong, I LIVE to educate but there is a time and place. If you want to get to know me, let's get to know the other aspects too.... not just talk about my disability and then ditch. This man was SO respectful of language, her feelings, and genuinely seemed interested in getting to know her, not just her disability. It may not be a long-term match (who knows) but it's always nice to see healthy dates with disabled and able-bodied folks. Hopefully this will show others HOW to treat a disabled person on a date! Also, she's LOVELY!

The most common reaction any disabled person gets is either A. Being stared at B. Being asked really personal questions C. People saying really hurtful and offensive things, so I totally get why she was surprised. It surprises me when people just roll with the punches when they meet me and find out about my disability. It’s sad but true, we don’t often get seen as real people.
