The way he dealt with that and how we achieved so much abroad brought him my respect. He was a man who simply loved football for the joy of it, not for money or hype.

I did. What a great moment it was. Last game of the 02/03 season, players doing the end of season lap. I time my run onto the pitch just as they're walking in front of the Gallowgate end. Sir Bobby was at the back. I run onto the pitch, 2 stewards see me running towards Sir Bobby and make their move towards me. Sir Bobby calls them both, holding out his arms to pull them in saying it's ok lads. I approach with arm held out, Sir Bobby extends his, and we shake hands. I've no recollection of what I said, something along the lines of well done on the season. He smiles and nods, understanding what this moment means to footballing fans. It's coming up for 20 years ago, I can still picture it now. Magical!
I shake my head in disbelief at some of the disrespectful comments made about this great man. If i could have chosen to have any father other than my own i would have chosen Bobby Robson. An honourable man, a gentleman, a man you would give your all for. It's a pity there there weren't a few more Bobby Robsons in this world.
