Fighting the Maangodin - Skull and Bones GHOST SHIP Boss

- I've been having a load of fun with Skull and Bones, and while I'm not sure the $70.00 USD price point is it yet, Boss fights like the Ghost Ship Maangodin has really improved my opinion of the title during the Open BETA.
Skull and Bones is an open-world naval combat multiplayer game where you become a pirate as you rise from an outcast to a kingpin. Players can gain Infamy and progress by taking on contracts either solo or as a group of up to three.
Wind positioning can be assessed to gain an advantage in battle. Players may collect additional ships throughout the game, such as sloops-of-war, frigates and brigantines, whose weapons include mortars, broadside cannons, and rockets. Ships can be charged into with brute force and boarded.
Also, apologies for the slightly lower quality in video, as instead of being recorded for the direct purposes of this video, this is taken from a live broadcast from Twitch earlier today.

@@magicpyroninja Did you have the biggest armor equipped? It provides a TON of damage mitigation.

I enjoyed the open beta & played it all weekend with friends. We all can't wait to play the full game at the end of the week. Also it IS confirmed that our progress will carry over at launch.

The fact that you did this solo is wild, I did this with a friend and we both started with 900 cannonballs and left the fight with 150 👀
The long range guns are SUPER efficient per shot, massive damage and range over all other weapons, also in the later half other players did wander by to assist. The complications that came in the form of those damned Dutch ships deciding to interfere made things EXTRA interesting for sure, and if they hadn't gotten involve, I may have been able to solo this. @@TheDanNation we, me & my friend, got lucky have the Dutch ship problem but they were in the horizon. We also inadvertently dragged the ghost ship to the fast travel port due west just trying to run away from the dang thing so maybe that played a hand in it? Haha. I also saw that your help didn’t come in until much later whereas we were beating on this thing at full tilt right at the jump, not to mention my game was bugging that I couldn’t see the ghost ships health bar so I had to keep asking my buddy “where we’re at” with regards to the boss’ HP bar 😂

I'm loving this game, i cant stop playing it, I didn't think anything would get me off farm simulator 22 but skull in bones did graphics 🔥 customization 🔥🔥🔥 5 ⭐

I know now, one complaint I have on the game is they really don't tell you about some of the more in depth combat mechanics.
@@TheDanNation I totally understand. I managed roughly 26 hours played in the beta and I promise I don't know half the stuff I should lol. I still love your video though. I chickened out and ignored the quest you did. Good on you for trying it and hanging in there like you did.
@@krisbeal8173 Honestly it was a really fun encounter that upped my opinion of the game bigtime. I was freaking out most of the time which is why I suddenly went quiet at the start like I did, BIGTIME focus mode.
It's an interesting fight, thankfully the immunity fades for a time once you break the weak points. This was also the fight that now has me keeping at least 2000 cannon balls in my holds at all times.
Strongly recommend the long guns, much better damage per shot and the ability to snipe out those weak points. If I didn't have long guns on every side I'd be doomed in this fight. I like the weak point mechanics for stuff like this, especially with the surprise immunity.
I was lucky enough to find a rocket launcher as my Aux. Did a ton to the damn thing.@@TheDanNation

Hold down the button and watch the fireworks fly. eats rockets quick which is the downside to its power

Great game right? Anyway, u can just tap on keyboard 4 to heal and 2 to feed your crew instead of using the wheel. Remember to press spacebar to brace when about to get hit. It acts like an extra shield against damage.
The only part of the game that didn't put me to sleep

Actually its a dutch vessel since attacking it also makes you enemies with them. Also it can appear within dutch regions. A mate and me fought him in the eastern part of the map, while fighting some dutch trading ships. So its a dutch super dreadnaught so to speak :p
‘Maangodin’ is Dutch for ‘moon goddess’. 100% Dutch
You can just press 2 for food and 4 for repair ;) Didn't find this ghost ship in my 28 Hour beta play tho, just some elites :(
What did you use to damage it if I may ask?
You may ask, no worries! You have to destroy the two glowing red skulls on the side of the ship to be able to inflict damage on the ships actual hull points. At that point, weak spots open up on the sides and back of the ghost ship.
Take the weak points out, then ram that mf and use flamethrower 😂
Did you get the tarnished ring after you defeated the ghost ship? I’ve beaten the ghost ship twice and haven’t received the tarnished ring in my loot. I also defeated captain galvin in one of the world events and didn’t get his head as loot either.
Yup, at the end of the video you see me turning it in, gave it to me no problem.
@@TheDanNationyeah I see….. idk if I’m missing a step then? I even make sure the mission is active before I go to the battle. I get the ethereal ashes and everything else…. But no ring.

I freaking knew it lol I watched countless videos of this fight and the sea monster yet 80% of people on pc never brace before impact 😂 I’m not sure of it has to do with what the button is but I use controller for pc and brace nonstop and be tanking everything, also you can get one shotted if they teleport right on you and same with the sea monster landing dead center on your ship without bracing.
So for me, I never really knew it was a thing, midfight during this encounter I noticed it and tried it out, literally the first time I'd actually seen what the button does.
I think you use its remains as one of the ingredients for one of the Best, flamethrower
I saw how hard the flamer kept ticking me and, kinda as a panic move, just held it down. Good learning moment, I think it works best against thise heavier DOT effects.

@@jonoats9057 To put your mind at ease, it has been confirmed that all progress from the open beta will carry over at launch, was playing with some friends last night & we were talking about that & one of them informed me that it's confirmed. I looked it up & sure as shit stinks, it IS confirmed.
By the way, this is a PVE event and you're not actually able to damage the other players that are at the event with you

They were just spawned in nearby, but it doesn't make me any less absolutely annoyed with them LOL

If you managed to Board him , it gives you one of his super rare - blueish glowing Fire Cannon which damage is exceptionally good and better than any other you'll find in Game

It can actually dropp it anyway. Just check the scope and the dropps, sometimes if you're lucky the flamthrower is on his dropp list. :)
So you picked a mission to hunt down that ghost ship, and once you started the fight random players saw you fight and joined up? is there a way to prevent other players from ruining your gaming experience? I'm guessing later in game you'll be like level 10 doing a hard mission and a level 200 player could join and one-shot your mission and ruins the fun... :-/
It's an open world experience, and you apparently can't pvp during the encounter, per another commenter. I wouldn't worry about that. I would worry about the God damned Dutch, though.

lets say you are from uk and wanna use your countrys flag on top of your ship then that should be possible tbh, cause if every player in the game has their countrys national flag on top of their ship its easier to see wich country that player is from🙂

And thats why i failed him as a soloplayer, i play on xbox and the aimcross went all place cause cant hold it that steady. Hope they fix this.

If you stay nice and close to him with the weapon that’s like a shotgun on the sides. He goes down quick. I killed him and the second I did the game blue screened. I was pissed
I'd rather stay out of range of the flamethrower tbh, my long range guns are solid and the rockets don't hit worth shit if I'm paying attention.
Gotta brace for those hard hits like being rammed looks like it's spacebar for PC.

Yeah I figured it out eventually, Bracing is something I didn't even figure out until THIS FIGHT unfortunately lol.
Change you're armour for next time, I changed mine and his flamethrower barely scratches me now
As soon as I got my head out my ass and used bracing to defend against it, it wasn't an issue. Also I the armor I had HEAVILY mitigated the constant rocket fire, which helped a ton.
Dutch ships be nasty
Rude ass Dutch ass ships, I swear.
Whoa, it's like the Flying Dutchman and Queen Anne's Revenge had a baby ! good fight there, been trying this game for a day now, and few things I want to comment on here, first is the boarding phase, which is kinda like no feeling at all, you can't control your crew when boarding, and there no sword fight, etc, can't walk around your ship. second, the main character can't even speak and sprint or jump (wish Ubisoft would implement that in the next update or so), and the lips are somewhat not sync with the speech. thirdly, hope they introduce more ship types like frigates, brigs, Indiaman, galleons, and man of war kinda ships. and perhaps can keep the ships that u successfully boarded without the need to build one. It was the same as Voyage Century Online, except that game was kinda dead now.

In this, I'm in highest level available ship in the BETA, which is a lower end medium ship. There's absolutely going to be ships late game that overpower this level of ghost ship.
@@TheDanNation You can get to lvl 8 with it though
@@bangkokstallion So ship level isn't just a flat number you get to with an XP bar or something automatic a ship has, it's cumulative based on your ship and everything you have equipped. The base number this ship I have starts with is 5 and went up based on my guns and equipables.

Was easy did it with 3 of us. Just need precision weapon to get the skulls then it barely does any damage to you at all
The rockets weren't a huge problem, and once I started bracing against the flamethrower it was less of an issue. Going in solo very much made it more exciting though!
Maybe it was a Dutch ghost ship that's why they didn't help you destroy it but rather help it kill you

That's legit, don't blame you!
But there's no pvp unless you do pvp events, so if that's your issue, there's nothing to worry about.
You only see other players sailing around, and people are even helping eachother, which is great because it's really necessary for some of the events.
@@TheDanNation yeah I mean I understand the vibe of doing ship battles with a team of friends, but they should have had both mutliplayer and single player, and more people would buy it I think. Which turns into more money, more money equals more content and updates etc

one thing that they should add to the game and that would be cool in this game would be that you can take over the ships you board so you can use them yourself in your own playthrough🙂

35 mins fight, for 600 silver and some crap loot......
If all you're concerned about is loot, there's plenty of easy, efficient farms you can do. This was fun, and I'd do it again.
I think you took that on too early, should have waited for the full game to come out before taking anything like that on as progression from beta carries over to the full game, you may not encounter that again on the full game and since you levelled up to the max on the beta, you don't gain imfamity points so you may have lost out on valubale imfamity level points in taking that on in the beta!
That's inaccurate, you're still gaining infamy past the BETA lock point, but it's holding it at rank 5 for now.

@@jonoats9057 Even if it's not, there's no cap on infamy you can eventually earn, and most quests are repeatable or have similar options it seems. It's not an issue.
WIth the amount of braindead content and mechanics this is a 30$ game at best.... AAAA my balls.
At this point, I picked it up for the $60 mark, I feel like that's fair.
