    Thanks for the tips Ralph. I have a bunch of cars that I want to convert from rapido to mtl couplers. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

    I've predrilled those blosters to #2-56 and put a drop of white glue on the #2-56 screw and had no issues with side to side

      The screws I used were the original Bachmann screws-i am guessing smaller than #2-56. Yes, upsizing the screw works as well!! Thanks for watching and commenting!!

    Does this apply to ho scale trucks and couplers that have Bachman trucks and couplers

      Thanks for Commenting!! It's been so long, I had to watch this vid again. Dang, my lighting was awful!!
      To answer You, yes, some of it would.
      Most of the tools that I show would apply. If you needed to drill a hole and thread it, you'd need different sizes.
      Most HO scale rolling stock use bolster screws.
      I've got some HO cars that have bolster pins. Are you changing over to Kadees?

    What about old N-scale locomotives? You can equip old Bachmann engines with knuckle couplers, but what about those good-running Life-Like engines of the late 1980s/early 90s?

      I will keep that in mind. I do have F7 from 80's. Thanks for watching and commenting!!👍😊

    Ralph is your rail height code 55 ?? Do you need to change wheels from pizza cutters to the low profile to make it not hop ??

    • @ralphgreenwood5857
      @ralphgreenwood5857  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      My rail in the video is code 80-I am using atlas turnouts (for now).I recently replaced most of the fleet with MT trucks and wheels. I didnt have too many problems with pizza cutters on freight cars. I had an old f7 with enormous wheels that had problems. Thanks!

    Very awkward presentation. You should have videoed on a white surface considering the blackness of the parts. The video light from only one side rather than from both caused your hand shadow to cover a lot. You showed the tap and drill package but not when or where it is used.

    • @ralphgreenwood5857
      @ralphgreenwood5857  ปีที่แล้ว

      So I'm guessing that your award-winning perfect videos are on your "hidden channel " that has a million subs???
      Sure it was awkward. It was the first run. If you watch the other vids, you'll see better lighting. I also demonstrate the drill and tap in two videos if I am not mistaken.

    • @ralphgreenwood5857
      @ralphgreenwood5857  ปีที่แล้ว

      And if you had paid attention to the intro, I stated that not all the tools that I presented would be demonstrated in that video alone.
      Okay, done explaining my actions 4 years ago.

    Do you need to check coupler and trip pin heights after installation? Next time, ConCor 89' AutoRacks and Well Cars please?

    • @ralphgreenwood5857
      @ralphgreenwood5857  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I dont worry much about coupler height-it should be factory set if the couplers are truck-mounted. I do make sure the trip pins are above the trackline(watch for sparks at turnouts-lol). I will do an episode on checking heights and fine tuning. Also I will be working on some concor pieces...after they get here. Autoracks-hmm..Thanks Roy!!

    thanks Ralph. that does not look to hard to do.. so i just have to buy some new trucks for the 5 n scale cars i got.. Nice title for the series.. I like it

      @ralphgreenwood5857  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank You Sparky!! Someday I will explain why I use that title. Im working on getting better lighting and having a separate bench to work on.That seems to be what was difficult. Thanks again Sparky!!

    Looks like you have the same approach as I do. Use what you have and make it work. I’m fairly new to this and I went out and got happy buying n scale cars online used. I realize that it might look like junk but a little bit of work and practice, you’ll end up with a nice fleet. One more thing... how do you or what is the best way to reuse older wheels and trucks?

    • @ralphgreenwood5857
      @ralphgreenwood5857  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      David,
      I don't reuse a lot of them. I have some saved for a junkyard. Sometimes the trucks (If they have good wheels) could be used if you install body-mounted couplers, like on an 80 foot auto parts car.
      Thanks for commenting!

      @@ralphgreenwood5857 I have a flat car that I refurbished and I think it would look great loaded down with a shipment of wheels… That’s always been a nice site, a train with a load of train wheels.

      I have one crazy question… can you explain code 55 and code 80? ect

    • @ralphgreenwood5857
      @ralphgreenwood5857  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@davidf9630 Code 55 track has a height of .055". Code 80 track has a height of .080" Code 55 track is considered to be more realistic for N scale because .055" is about 8.8inches in N Scale. Some older pizza-cutter wheels may not work on code 55 track.
