    I am one of the Dunnington family's great great grandsons and loved seeing what our family mansion now looks like inside. My dad and grandfather had tons of stories they shared about the estate, but there is far too much to tell here. The Dunningtons were a huge employer and among the wealthiest families in the region in their hay days.
    There is a non-profit called the Dunnington Mansion Foundation aimed at restoring it. I think it would make a great museum for Prince Edward County history. I really wish I could have shared this with my father, who died last year, as it would have brought a tear to his eyes in his final days. Thank you for sharing this bit of local history.❤

      So cool to actually talk to one of the relatives. I fell in love with this mansion. We had the permission from the organization that runs it and trying to save this beautiful place of history. If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to me or the organization that I’m sure you are well aware of. Thank you for your time to watch the video. I hope you had as much joy watching it as much as I had filming it. Thank you again

    Spectacular shots . What a beautiful conservatory. Don't you just love pocket doors .? That is the first time I have seen such an elaborate root cellar In a basement as they are often outdoors. This mansion had everything to be self sufficient at one time . I hope they succeed in saving this beautiful place . Great video Elvis. Keep Safe ❤Keep Well❤

    My ancestors were born in Poplar Hill from the 1790's on. I'm glad people are finally showing the past names. They were the slaves, but they seemed to be split apart at times. That house was pretty. I honestly have mixed feelings about this. I've also seen the houses built into the hills, the mines, the pictures of them in war uniform, the script, and indian coins my grandfather collected. It's weird how all the families just kept moving west and south after leaving Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Virginia. Naming town after town after themselves like a trail.

    The Conservatory with the green glass roof is spectacular. The basement screen doors in the floor served as a root cellar my grandparents had one.

    I fell in love with the Atrium/Conservatory to. I'm a plant fanatic. Lol
    The wrap around porch is so beautiful. And the entrance with the bench and stair case takes your breath away. The butler's pantry was so cool. I could go on and on. And yes I'd have locked my kids in that dungeon! They we're holy terrors. 🤣🤣

    They're known as pocket doors, not "sliding doors". The "greenhouse" is called an Atrium. According to the website, the pens in the basement were used to keep bottle fed baby calves warm in the winter. Thanks for the video!

    7:52 Not sure if there was just one or two there? Might have been for some type of heavy duty hinge?
    7:59 There are many possibilities. Could be where potatoes were kept or some sort of storm shelter? At first, I thought it was an abandoned well, but realized that was a screen door. Maybe slave quarters?
    Gotta go take care of things, but I'll finish watching later.

    • @PastLifeExplorer
      @PastLifeExplorer ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Not sure either. I know at the beginning it was a plantation. But I don’t think they mansion itself had anything built for the servants. Don’t hold me to that but I might be right.

    • @stephaniemhoover4741
