When I was going thru RCIA, the priest allowed me to come up during the Eucharist and receive a blessing. Receiving a blessing at that point in the Mass made me feel welcome.
I’m going into RCIA at 16 from a Protestant family. My hunger for the Eucharist is what is keeping me strong during my moments of doubt in faith. Hunger for the Eucharist is a suffering that connects us with our Lord and yes it’s painful, but it is also an amazing pain to have.
You are receiving so much grace - at 16 you are already searching for truth. You are very brave. God bless you and may you bring many more souls back home.
Looking at the time you posted this, I think I must have been going through the same thing at the same time. Was you accepted into the church at the Easter vigil?
"we need to experience that pain so we can be motivated to strive after union" wow. even though this is exactly how i feel, it's so good to hear it from someone like you Father. the day i receive my first Holy Communion and am baptized will be the best day of my life.
I am currently going through RCIA and I walk up to the priest and receive a blessing. I never used to because I felt like I was not allowed to do this. But my friend who I went to Mass with at the start said “that’s okay to cross your arms and receive a blessing”. And I can’t express enough how beautiful that was. Some moments I truly felt as if I was not welcomed because I wasn’t catholic, but that friend made me feel extremely welcomed and comfortable to attend Mass. Now, going through RCIA, I have been improving my faith and love for Christ. And the first moment I will get to receive Him and not have to cross my arms, I know I will be in tears. Because it truly is The Body of Christ. And I know I will never be worthy to receive Him. God is so good 🙏🤍
This was a helpful explanation. My wife was Catholic and had a strong faith life. I am not Catholic but I, too, have a strong faith life. My wife died from cancer last year. I like to go to her church from time to time as it makes me feel closer to her. I know I can't take communion at her church but this helps me to understand why I can't be included. Thank you.
I wish this was the way it was explained to me. I'm a Catholic now but before I was a Catholic, I had a long discussion with a priest about what I believe, etc. and he told me, "Wow! You are even more Catholic than most of my parishioners." So I asked, "Then why can't I receive Holy Communion. I know what it is and I want it. I need it." I was told, "Because you aren't one of us." And you are right, Fr. Mike. I felt rejected, and unwanted and unloved. You have a great way of putting things - the way you put it was more like putting a hand out in welcome Not saying 'no' but saying 'not yet.'
That is a lie, your not a child of a Catholic, your the child of the most high. If you ask for Jesus in your life, where does it say in the bible because your not a catholic, I will reject you? You will spend an eternity trying to find it... Jesus' blood was shed for all, not for some. This sounds like the Jews hating the gentiles? What do you have to say about that... What did Jesus do for the gentiles while he was despised by his own people?. Did Jesus limit his love? So why would he limit his body and blood? The answer is he never will, if you believe in him no matter what church you are his blood and body is a gift as a result of your faith. So if what your saying is true is GOD condemning Christians outside of the universal church to hell? The all believe in Christ? So who has the right to revoke Christ from a person?...
If you really want the Holy Communion and you are baptised in the Name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost you just need to confess your sins to the confessional and you will be allowed to take the Eucharist, it's simple like that. :)
My whole family is fully entering the Church today. I was baptised Catholic as an infant, but never had first communion or confirmation (Which I am getting today). My wife and step daughters are being baptised, communion, and confirmation as well. Our marriage is also being convalidated (after performing a civil ceremony 5 years ago today). So we had to go through the annulment process (but my wife qualified for the Pauline Provlidege due to her and her ex not being baptised), so that made the annulment process much easier. What I'm saying is this, it was a long journey (year and a half since we started RCIA), but it's been worth it. We went up for blessings every Sunday during communion, and our Priest was happy to do that for us. We never felt "unwelcomed", we just had more work to do. I understand WHY some non Catholic Christians have a problem with Communion and other Sacraments, but you have to open your hearts and understand the WHY. The CATHOLIC Church didn't make these rules, Jesus himself did. Just because Protestant denominations are lax on the rules God himself made, doesn't make them ok. If anything, it SHOULD make you question the holiness of your church and church leaders. We practised patience, and we trusted in God's Will. Which God has rewarded us for that. I am not perfected, I'm a sinner, but I dare not question God. When someone at a Catholic church tells you "Y pu need to do this or that, before you can receive communion," it's for your own good. It's not an elitist thing, it's to protect your own soul. It is sacralidge to receive the Eucharist unworthily. You are better off not receiving, than commiting a Mortal Sin by receiving. Trust in God, have faith in him, and he will guide you home. BTW, it's MUCH easier to be born into the Catholic faith than to join later in life, so I have learned that lesson. My 2 year old son (who is baptised ) will learn from my mistakes, he will make it all the way through confirmation the correct way.
That first line of your post "My whole family is fully entering the Church today" must feel, in some way, of bringing your family home - so awesome! We are praying for you and your family. God bless you all
I know I’m late to this - but welcome, and congratulations to you and your entire family. My entire cane to the church 6 years ago and I have never felt more at home or more at peace! God bless you!
Mikey J Productions Wonderful for your family!! All of you are one step closer to God and the salvation!! I’m so happy you’re back in Gods church!! Welcome 🙏🏻God and Virgen Mary bless you all 🙏🏻❤️🇵🇷
you say its easier to be born a catholic but can a baby be born catholic. A baby is not born to be a doctor , lawyer, or billionaire. A baby is just born a baby.
As a Protestant, (looking to convert) I've visited many different churches. It's kind of crazy how they all have different rules when it comes to this. It's actually very confusing. Some, Communion is open to any and all. Others, you have to be baptized. Others, you have to be baptized in that particular church. Others, only adults can receive. It's so confusing.. The Catholic way actually makes so much more sense.
You are not a “protestant”you are a catholic disinformationalist! Revelation 21:8 “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all LIARS shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”
@@savedbygrace8337Protestants are Christians, just without the ability to sin as much as they like and then go to the priest, confess, say 10 holy Mary's, give the church some money and suddenly all is forgiven..
I love how everyone are in diefferent walks of their faith with Jesus. I'm protestant and I love seeing people give their lives to Jesus and why they worship Him Edit: I meant different, but oh well
I got baptized when I was 7, but I've never been regularly to mass until late last year, now I'm 18 and I attend mass every Saturday or Sunday, I never received my first communion and I feel like there's something missing in me when I can't receive it since I know that's Jesus' body...I'll, hopefully, receive it by the end of this year, I'm really looking forward to it.
Lluís Melián .. God is surely inviting you to get to know him better my friend. Someone must be praying for you, because that's the Love and Grace of Our Lord working in you. GOD LOVE YOU!!
Just talk to your parish priest and surely he will arrange things for you to prepare properly to receive your First Holy Communion. S8nce you need to go prepare for and go to Confession before receiving Jesus.
I am 57, started going to Mass 3xs a week..I am not a Catholic yet. I will become one in 2020. I look forward to being baptized and taking of Holy Communion with all my heart. It is very difficult to not be able to receive, but what gets me through IS going up for a blessing. I feel as if I am participating. My priest sees that I am very serious about becoming one with the faith and his blessing is welcoming. But I must admit there are times when my heart feels broken, so I pray and look forward to Easter of 2020. The road is long but I will get there and will love the faith even more.
Where do you find all these rules in scripture ? You don't ,The roman catholic church wants your total devotion to it's organization and that is how they bend scriptures to say what they think it means. You can have communion as long as you are a born again christian and your confession should be to God, not some priest . Hebrews 4:15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are-yet he did not sin. 16 Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. Read Corinthians and see what a mockery of the Lord's supper was being perpetrated by various individuals in the church and why judgement came upon them. There is absolutely nothing you can do to merit God's favor and there is nothing you can do to clean up your life and that is why the Lord has done everything for you. 1 John 2:1,2 Hoping that you will read with your heart and eyes open as I know that the RCC has told so many that they are the one true church and anything else is heretical. Just read the scriptures as they are above the RCC.
Good move. Avoid the sola scriptura heretics. The Eastern Orthodox, Oriental Orthodox, Catholic and the Assyrian Church of the East are ancient, unlike the Reformation kooks that got it wrong with their one dimensional, regressive logic. Those ancient churches are the only ones that are bona fide Christians. Sola scriptura is man weakly interpreting the Bible for their own weak ideology.
God never designed communion to be for a certain group of people, rather as a powerful tool for ALL of Gods children to use to remember Christ’s sacrifice on the cross so that we may be saved. I pray the Catholic Church would learn this and stop acting like they’re special in the eyes of the Lord. Your just another part of His Holy Church. God bless you
Per the Didache, which predates the RCC, "Do not let anyone eat or drink of your eucharist except those who have been baptized in the name of the Lord." That means that the RCC is wrong to deny Holy Communion to other baptized followers of Christ.
I think this is so important, as well as under what conditions can we receive Holy Communion. As Catholics, we can also experience this painful exclusion of not receiving the Body and Blood of Christ if we are in a state of mortal sin. So we too can feel this pain or "rejection", but for us Catholics it's much simpler - all we need to do is go to Confession with an open, honest and purposeful heart and after making a heartfelt Confession, we can once again receive the most Blessed Sacrament, the Eucharist. I think it's very important that Father pointed out that other Christians can't receive our Holy Communion because they aren't in communion/ unity with the Catholic Church. But I wonder, as Catholics, are we allowed to receive Holy Communion at Orthodox or Anglican services? Or rather not?
The Sinnoh Firefly .. Very good comments. God bless!! .. As Catholics, we are not to receive the "eucharist" from any Church which is not in Union with the Roman Catholic Church.
As a Catholic I learned that the only the ones that have of the apostolic succession are the ones that can have the authority and the power to convoque the Holy Spirit to do the transubstantiation. That’s why is the other Churches can not have the body, blood and divinity of Jesús.
Fernando Cortes .. Exactly Fernando! My brother attended a wedding at an Episcopalian church and he said it looked Catholic, but he said something didn't seem right. I let him know that the "priest" is not a Catholic Ordained priest and that he does not have the authority thru the Sacrament of Holy Orders to convert the bread and wine into the body and blood of Chist!
Fernando Cortes -- that's true, but there are Apostolic Churches that are not in communion with Rome, so can't receive Holy Communion from their priests unless we are in danger of death, or if there is no Catholic Mass available AND if their bishop gives permission, but the Orthodox say that their bishops deny permission in most cases where there is a Catholic church within a certain distance.
KA Fleury .. There's issues with Orthodox Christian churches. They are not particularly welcoming to Catholics. Very strange. I understand they are allowed to divorce, but only one time??? So what's the difference once or three or ten times... it's still adultery?? Right?
I'm in the process of converting to the Catholic church and when we attend Mass I say this prayer during the Eucharist: Spiritual Communion Prayer My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen
One thing I found amazing in Catholic Church is that no matter where you are, the prayers and traditions are the same. I´m not sure where you´re from, but I´m from Mexico and we have the exact same prayer but in Spanish. And when I lived in the UK for a year I used to go to mass and, other than language, it was exactly the same as in the local parish back home. I hope you can receive the Eucharist soon, it brings you so much joy and peace, feeling so close to Jesus.
Wow. The union between humanity and Christ; reduced to reading a prayer off of your phone. That's even cheaper than the "pastoral blessing." I am really sorry that you have to do that.
@@tobylee9261 I should clarify that I don't bring my phone to Mass (I don't think it would be appropriate). Any private prayers I say during Mass are either memorized or just come from the heart. That being said, my family and I are now baptized and confirmed and full members of the Catholic church, and we can now receive the Eucharist. I think it makes sense to have people wait until they are baptized before they can partake in Holy Communion, and it was very much worth the wait!
I just brought my mom to her first ever Mass today (I converted at Easter, she’s still a Protestant). It was difficult to ask her to either simply receive a blessing at the altar or to pray in the pew. I hope this video helps her!
I was turned away from receiving communion by a catholic monk ... I was so embarrassed that I left the church. I may not be catholic but I pray to, and recognize the same god you pray to.
I am currently going through RCIA and I love attending Mass as I felt calm and peaceful as I sense the presence of our Lord. I definitely feel rejected that I can't receive the Eucharist but I went up anyway to receive the blessing because first of all it makes me feel like I am part of the community and I am always looking forward to be baptized and to receive my first Holy Communion. Secondly so that I will not block the way of others who are leaving the pew :) God Bless all of you.
It's like going to a party and everyone is given a beautiful meal and when you get to the line you're handed a bologna sandwich. And then everyone stares and you and wonders why you weren't given the steak.
You need to be more carefully with your interpretation of "this is my body.". This exact phrase is used in other places in the New Testament, with the exact same Greek words, and it is NEVER taken as literal. Is Hagar literally Mt. Sinai in Galatians 4:25? The Catholic church is also preaching heresy when it includes "soul" in its interpretation when Jesus only said it was his body. You cannot partake of His divinity either, as you can't partake of his humanity. We SHARE in His humanity and we SHARE of the divine nature, but we don't literally eat them. To hat is heresy. And why would you take his words about his body and blood as literal when you don't take "will never die" as literal but only spiritual, through partaking of his flesh and blood. Do some research on the meaning of the Greek word "estin".
I WAITED OVER A YEAR TO TAKE COMMUNION I JUST TOOK THE BLESSING, I WAS COMFIRMED EASTER 2024 IT WAS HARD NOT TO KE THE BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST , BUT I CAN TELL YOU IT WAS SO SO SO WORTH IT , I BELIEVE WE ARE BEING TESTED DURING OUR TRAINING TO AKE US SURE WE KNOW WHAT ITS ALL ABOUT KEEP THE FAITH GOD BLESS ALL WHO WILL BE IN THE CATHOLIC CHURCH NEXT EASTER AMEN
I'm currently going through the confirmation process and it's definitely a struggle at times to not be able to receive the Eucharist. However, I feel like the pain of waiting has brought me closer to Christ, and will make me appreciate the gift of the Eucharist even more when I'm able to receive.
Communion is the greatest gift Jesus gave us and yet through sin it has been a battle ground. This just reinforces that the Catholic church is perpetuating the divide as it only desires unity under its own terms. In other words that we all become practicing Catholics. In their eyes other traditions are null and void. What we need to remember is that Jesus is the host at the Eucharist and invites all who believe in him to come and receive spiritual refreshment. And this is regardless of whatever tradition we belong to. What we hear of here are man made rules based on power which puts barriers in the way of people's discipleship..
@Retrobiker subsonic My current thinking on the Eucharist has shifted over the past few years. It is now more akin to Orthodox teaching which is to accept that Jesus meeting us when we receive the bread and wine and not to worry about how it is done. No one knows how Jesus ministers to us at that point and we should meet him in faith. The west has tried to intellectualise something that we can never understand and this is the cause of our division. Next summer I will be ordained as a Deacon at Lichfield which will start to see my vocation come to fruition.
“Whoever eats the flesh of Son of man unworthily eats and drinks judgement on himself.” The church is trying to protect the faithful from committing sacrilege. Also, you are spouting Protestant ideas. They don’t have the Eucharist
@@JamesMathison98 Yes we have the Eucharist and our service is pretty well identical to yours apart from a few things in different places and wording of some of the prayers. When we looked at Eucharistic presidency as part of my training the thing we were told that makes it valid is not the prayer of consecration but the affirmation at the end when the congregation respond with the amen. It is then valid in their sight and the priest needs at least one other present to celebrate. the church is not protecting the faithful as you claim but still fighting the battles of the reformation. I am not a Catholic but do belong to the catholic church and note the difference. My beliefs are theologically sound about what happens during at communion and instead of fighting over it we should adopt the Orthodox view that we cannot possibly understand what Jesus does or how he meets us but he does. |t is something that happens through faith. We should be respecting each others tradition and not using it as a barrier to accepting Christ's invitation to his table. Our churches should reflect the ministry he showed us when he walked this earth as he did not turn anyone away. I am being ordained into a church that is broad in its tradition and it has both apostolic succession and episcopal ordination. Despite the variety of tradition we respect each other's position as well as one ordination.
@@JamesMathison98 Yes and our Eucharist has been shaped by the international texts as well as traditional order. However the work of Cranmer still lives on in the collect prayers as well as in Eucharistic prayer C which has the feel of that found in the Book of Common Prayer. We don't put up any artificial barriers to take communion. if you are baptised and in good standing with your church you can take it from us regardless of which tradition you are from. there is no obligation for regular confession although some may and the prayer of penance in the service is seen as being sufficient to do the same thing.
My priest at my church that I go to said to those who are not Catholics to come up and receive a blessings. People say that’s inclusive and I think it makes others feel welcome. I don’t know how it feels personally cause I am Catholic.
I think it depends on the Parish as a non catholic who has gone up for a blessing its often awkward especially because the people distributing communion and even the Priest are suprised that someone actually took them up on it and then not only do you feel excluded but also like a weird after thought, usally I just walk through the line without stopping so no one has to move around me in the pew its less awkward.
That definitely seems more inclusive. I'm glad your church does that. Because by making people feel unwelcomed, they are turning people away from the church. I wouldn't ever go back to a Catholic church if they rejected me
Attend RCIA, get baptized & confirmed, and then you are in full communion with the Catholic Church, then you may receive the Body, Blood, Soul, & Divinity of Jesus in Holy Communion. The Church is inclusive, everyone is invited to follow this initiation. I don't understand why non Catholic people think they can just pop in & out of Mass, and receive Holy Communion. Catholics who are in a state of mortal sin, which includes deliberately missing Mass on Sundays, cannot receive Communion.
With respect, I believe the flaw in this explanation is that members of the Eastern Orthodox Churches, who are in schism with Rome, are permitted to receive communion within the Roman Catholic Church, whereas Anglicans, who have a similar belief in the real presence of Christ within the Eucharist, the differences with Rome being largely sematic, cannot do so. It seems like the exclusion is, in this case, political and historic rather than spiritual - the 'middle brother' is being favoured to the exclusion of the 'younger brother'.
you can receive Eucharist if you believe the bread is the REal Body of Christ...Protestants and Anglicans don't believe in Real Body of Christ....Eastern Orthodox believe in Real Body of Christ in the Bread..So no problem with them....
Lutherans are taught about the miracle of transubstantiation So yes Protestants Also have overlapping beliefs. They wait til the children are A few years older than Catholic kids as to better prepare their minds for the Holy Sacrament
High Anglicans also believe in real body and blood of Jesus Christ. My partner is High Anglican and their Divine Liturgy is even similar to Traditional Latin Mass except not in Latin.
I appreciate this video. As a devout protestant, I always found it very insulting the Catholics thought that I could not take communion. In our tradition, all one Has to do to be part of Christ’s family is to receive Christ in your heart, and understand he is the propitiation for sins. There was no obligation to go through any ceremonies or anything else to eat with Jesus. I’m open to learning more, but it does seem like Catholics make it far too hard for people to feel like that they can be close to Jesus. But I’m open to being wrong about that
They can go to protestants churches it is OK. Catholics and protestants belief about the Holy communion is different. Christ is in the eucharist while some protestants think it is just a regular symbolic bread. Easy I think it wouldn't be good for a protestant to do something they don't believe in either
Convert here 🙋🏼♀️ used to be an anti-Catholic Christian. It all boils down to Catholics following the biblical rule of confessing our sins (aloud) to the “presbyter”. Then receiving communion. Even Catholics can not- per the Bible- receive if they are receiving “unworthily.” Here’s some scripture: James 5:14-16 1 Corinthians 11:26-28 God bless you all and may we be United!
Please forward this video to the German bishops. It is crazy what almost happened over here! The congregation of bishops had already decided to open up holy communion to non-catholic spouses of Catholics! The holy father was forced to stop that!
That helps me understand. I felt that rejection when I went up for communion and realized later that it was not appropriate as I was not in the Catholic Church. I am a Christian, and imperfect Christian. I love God so much and hopefully growing more in that love and devotion. So now I respect that it is not appropriate unless I convert to Catholic church. It means I must wait until I walk that extra mile with the brothers and sisters of the Catholic faith.

Thank you so much Father, for clearing this up for me. I'm baptised as Greek Orthodox, but I'm in the process of conversion and I always feel deep shame and embarassment when everybody has the priviledge to receive the Holy Communion. I can't wait to be confirmed and finally receive it. I'm thinking about this almost daily. Again, thank you for this video, and for all others you've done, as they have been truly enlightening for me.
In my greatest time of need, I turned to God and found your videos. I am doing much better now, and I'm still in need of God's word. Your videos have given me so much strength. Now it is God who makes us and you stand firm in Christ. He annointed us. Thank you for sharing your joy for the church.
I like how union was the central thing you were saying ultimately. Theological ideas and philosophies divide, but love for God and one another is everything. Good stuff
That's the best explanation I've heard, thank you. As an Anglo-Catholic who goes to mass with my Roman Catholic mother, I feel that pain every time. I still feel a wonderful sense of welcome though, which I'm grateful for.
Hello all. As a born and raised Catholic, I have taken interest in this topic because it can be a tough concept to talk about with authority. When people ask me why the stance is what it is, I simply tell them that "this is what the Catholic church has determined." I understand that many like to contend that there is indisputable Word that this is the "law" but I have not found it. In Corinthians 1 we read about St Paul condemning the church for their behaviors (and many will say this is the evidence of our belief) however, you will read there was much much more going on here in the early church besides a congregation uniformly shuffling to the altar for a chance to partake in the Host. There were factions, actual meals being eaten, (and people getting drunk!).. In all the shuffle, I take from this that Paul is lamenting the lack of the regard show by the church receiving communion. It's like the church was getting so disorganized with it. "Therefore brothers and sisters, when you come together to eat, welcome one another. If anyone is hungry, he should eat at home, so that when you gather you will not come under judgement." - 1 Corinthians 11 : 33-34. It's almost as if Paul is instructing the church "come to church satiated, so that you're not blindly and 'hangrily' disrupting and causing judgement." I respect the church to make practices as it sees fit, in order to have structure. I also think the church should be rooted in the Word because that is the only thing that can withstand. When I ask so many people, they don't really have a solid answer for this topic, they just say " well, it's the actual body of Christ... or, It's the Holy Lord why wouldn't you be respectful of it?" I think these a good ethics to have, but it doesn't answer the question of why we are excluding members of our church. At the end of the day I think this is a conclusion the church has made, and I completely accept that. However we aren't doing anyone favors by withholding that fact. I think this is a decision made on the inferences of those who had the information at the time. All the apostles broke bread with Jesus, ate his body and drank his blood at the Last Supper.. but wasn't Judas already beholden to the Pharisees in his anticipation of betraying Jesus? How could he have eaten the body of Christ (knowingly to Jesus!) of the sin he was about to commit for an agreed upon place and amount? How could Judas have been in a state worthy to receive Jesus after he had already agreed to betray him?
It's true, it hurts. Preparing for my wedding was when I learnt that I wouldn't be able to have a communion at my wedding because it was ecumenical. I was very grumpy and resentful against the Catholic church about this 'surprise' for a good while. I wish someone like Fr Mike had explained it to me this way at that time.
angelfoodcake1979 sorry about that.. I know my parish recommended catholic weddings outside of the mass (without communion) for mixed marriages ... to completely avoid the issue.
Jen Chris what I understand above all is that an awful lot of priests cannot actually explain their faith. There might be more than Fr Mike. I haven't met them yet.
After so many painful moments, confusion, and prayers for clarity and discernment, God answered me and spoke so loudly and clearly to me through this video. God is so good, I feel like I can hear Him and understand for the first time in a long time.
I was just recently denied the Holy communion at a Catholic Church and I got so sad actually and confused… but now clarity has made it in 🙏🌿 thank you for making this video God bless you! ❤️
1 Peter 3:18 For Christ also suffered for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive in the spirit,
#askfrmike Father Mike, I'm discerning becoming a Catholic, but there's one big hurdle I just can't get over. Growing up, I had the same group of friends for over ten years, and they're still the most beautiful, kind, giving people I know, to this day. I love them, truly and wholly. But they're all atheists. When we all die, if they spend eternity separated from God, suffering, how could I possibly enjoy Heaven, however it's defined? I don't think I'd be me if I didn't care that they were in pain.
Yes I definitely experienced the feeling of rejection. I went to my first Catholic mass recently and didn't know the guidelines with communion. I was baptized Greek Orthodox and at all other churches I have attended I was able to receive communion. As everyone went up to receive communion at the Catholic Mass, I was the only one in the pews...so I assumed it was what we all did. As I got to the front I received the wafer, and after approaching the wine they person told me that I cannot receive communion if I am not Catholic. It left me with a very unsettling feeling, then after mass the father told me that I should reach out to him to learn about communion in the Catholic Church. It felt closed off compared to other churches I have been to, and that was the only aspect of the mass that made me question if I want to approach Catholicism further. I feel being all inclusive for others to receive Jesus is important, if anyone can give me more insight on this it would be very appreciated. God bless :)
My wife and I are attending the RCIA and will be accepted into the church at Easter. We attend Mass every Sunday, and we kneel and cross our arms across our chests to receive a blessing 🙏🏼
Beautiful classy explanation. I wish to convert and asked a representative from a church that I respect and want to be a regular parishioner of. I asked “do I receive communion at mass or no?” She said “no. You ARE welcome at mass. You ARE welcome to come up to receive a blessing. You ARE welcome to reach out to us to be initiated.” I felt great about that because I don’t know much about how to live a catholic life, I just know this sins and much of the word in the Bible. So I appreciated the straightforward response. It’s humbling that I have further to go to be initiated and allow my journey to unfold properly.
Fr. Mike I enjoy all your videos and I love the rituals and history of the Catholic Church but I believe all people of Christian Faith are our brothers and sisters and should not be excluded. When we die God is not going to ask what denomination we belonged too.
Hello Diane, I understand your heart and it makes you Christian. Unfortunately there are denominations that adhere to heretical beliefs. That is direct opposition to the teachings of our Mother Church. This is a deeper matter that you may realize.
Amen! I like what you said in the very last part. It amazes to think how God will, one day, unite all Christians in the world. How God will make a family of us all. Prayers for unity of Christians.
I attended mass for about a year in a half before I joined the church. Not being able to receive Communion caused me to not take the Eucharist for granted.
Father, thanks so much for this video. I think it is one of the best videos Ascension Press has put out because there is so much misunderstanding on this subject, not only by non-Catholics, but even Catholics who don't know their faith that well. I work at a parish as their faith formation director. I use this video as a resource for those who want to enter the RICA (OCIA) to help them understand that the non-reception of Holy Communion is not about being unwelcoming, but because of everything you teach here.
I pray that someday soon we will all be as one. Its hurts so much to be denied communion as an Anglican. I love Jesus and I do appreciate this vlog but it still appears that's it's only the non Catholics who need to experience that pain Fr Mike is talking about. God bless 🙏
What the Lord wants us to share is the WORD of GOD. His Word.He is the Word that became flesh... May the Holy Spirit teach us the true meaning of communion
Hi. What will you do when the Catholic church contradicts the Bible? The Apostle Paul says that whoever calls upon the Name of the Lord will be saved. Jesus said, "Ask, and you shall receive." Salvation is that easy. If we continue in His Word, then we are His disciples. Moreover, Jesus said that the Holy Spirit (not the 'church') will lead us into all truth. Do you know Him? If you do not know God, if you are not born again, baptized in the Holy Spirit, if He is not your Friend, Teacher, and Guide, then Jesus will say to you, "Depart from Me; I never knew you." Do you know Christ? Or do you have to pray to Mary to get Him to hear you? That said, how can Mary hear a million prayers at once - unless she were God? It is a sin to pray to Mary! She is simply a sister in Christ, a sister who had other kids and is no longer a virgin! I urge you to return to the simplicity of the Bible. Jesus said, "This is eternal life, that you know God and Jesus Christ Whom He has sent (John 17.3)" Anything different means you have a different gospel. As Paul wrote, "Whoever preaches a different gospel, let him be accursed." I hope that you will follow the Bible and not the apostate Catholic church. Jesus Christ is the light of the world.
Amen Ken & Ximo. We are to walk like Jesus. Jesus was inclusive. He turned no one away. sinners were invited to sit down with him. Somewhere down the line, the Catholic Church forgot the Bible is all Christians handbook. They went back to man made laws, like the Pharisees. Does the pope remind anyone of Jesus. Not if you read the Bible. In the Bible Jesus wants everyone-to receive him.
@@Hope-vw7mx Lol…the Catholic Church was the Church that gave the world the Bible. I think it’s safe to say that we’ve known that it’s Christ’s handbook for two millennia now.
Fr Mike I have to say this. Many years ago in my 30’s I was not a baptised Catholic, but I was very much a practising Catholic. I went on a spiritual retreat where a redemptorist priest took the retreat. With his permission I made my confession and received Holy Communion even though technically I was not catholic but in every way that mattered--I was. Sometimes priests have to use their initiative and not stick to the letter of the law., instead be guided by the Holy Spirit .
Thank you for this explanation, Father Mike. I grew up and was confirmed Catholic, and around the time of the abuse scandal I largely walked away from church for awhile. Eventually I began going to a United Methodist Church with my now wife and her family. I found a home there and was blessed in so many ways over time. It's hard to believe it, but I am now a pastor and have been called to ministry and yet, I am so thankful for my Catholic upbringing. I believe it gave me the foundation that I have today. I join you, Father Schmitz, in desiring and praying for true unity in the Church. I so desire for us to be the answer to the prayer of Jesus.
You've put this so much better than the priest that told me to "sit, this bit isn't for you" with no explanation, I never attended a church service since because I thought he was just being incredibly rude.
I know the feeling. Baptized Catholic, and had my first communion but since my catholic wife and I were not married in a Catholic church, I was told that I was not able to accept communion.
The answer I give is the Church excludes non Catholics from receiving out of a desire to protect them. St. Paul warns not to receive unless discerning the Body of Christ. I know the point Father Mike was making also is about protection, but from saying something they might not believe. 1 Corinthians may be more effective with a current Protestant, who might recognize the verse. And if one does discern the Body, in the way the Church interprets that, the door is always open to become a practicing Catholic.
The problem is that protestants' fundamental believe of John chap.6 is that communion is symbolic. I don't really understand why, because even in the KJV, it uses the phrase "my flesh is meat indeed." Anyway, when protestants have their "communion" with little bread squares and grape juice, they actually invoke 1 Corinthians 11: 27-29, at least at the services I've been to when invited by friends. The clearly intended sentiment is to carefully consider the importance of the "communion." It's kind of baffling to me. They take almost every other word in the bible literally, but do not believe in the Real Presence, where the wording, especially the original Greek, so clearly has that meaning. So, in light of protestant interpretation, the admonition in 1 Corinthians carries less severity, I guess. Basically I'm saying that I feel the passage in Corinthians won't underscore the fact of the Real Presence or indicate a protection from commiting sin. I suppose if a protestant is open minded enough it might, but in my experience the soft interpretations will discourage meaningful reflection on the scripture. Connected to all of that, I think, is their notions of "faith alone" and "once saved always saved," they believe, therefore They are saved... almost (seemingly) regardless of what They do. They are usually in a totally different world, so to speak, which is unfortunate. Maybe I'm wrong, I probably am, but it's how I see it right now.
Bob C Because Martin Luther Protest the Catholic Church. He interpreted and Cherry picking the Bible for his own benefit. The protestants believed they originated the Bible, and the Catholic Church is their enemy, laughed the Church, the priests and everything. They call themselves Christian, the Catholic Church is a Cult. Their pastors taught them. The immorality is in the presence of the Western/protestant culture.
@@TheDesertRat31 you have totally misunderstood the Biblical text and taken it out of context. No where does scripture say you are saved and then you can do what you want because of it. The fact is that being truly saved makes one a "new creation" in Christ and therefore turning away from the sinful nature of the flesh. This is called repentance. It doesn't mean we are without sin, it means we set our sights on a new path, Christ in us. What you have posted is inaccurate and harmful. It needed correction.
So you are saying that full membership in the Church is really more important than your belief that the Eucharist is the real presence of Christ. A person who believes, like myself, can't receive the elements because I'm Anglican. But a person who doesn't believe in the real presence can take it because they are a member of the RC Church . It seems that membership is more important than believing.
I can see where you're coming from. But consider someone who will not follow through with getting married, but is fine with sharing sexual intimacy, living together, etc. but does not want to make the vow or commit. Our God is a jealous God, in that He tolerates no rivals, much like within a marriage, there can/should be no other rivals. Someone who will not commit, regardless of however they feel/believe, is not giving their full selves to God (or to whomever within the example). Someone who is Catholic, but in a state of mortal sin, cannot receive the Eucharist either. Because it's akin to cheating on your spouse and then wanting to make love. Sin, mortal sin, has wounded the relationship. The individual needs to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation and mend that relationship before attempting to partake in Communion. I hope that helps! There are other videos on this channel that addresses the issues I mentioned. The videos on being denied Communion are a great resource/tool for understanding better our stance on this.
exactly my thoughts. most catholics don’t believe the elements are the actual body, either, yet they take communion. the catholic church believes it is the one true church. i’m glad i am united methodist. catholics are welcome to take our communion, but their church forbids them to. guess they would have to go to confession.
@@phillipkuhlman7468 yea. Confession smh another issue I had with the church. Jesus said “I am the only mediator between man and God” and yet when I was raised in the Catholic church i was raised I needed to go to a man, call him FATHER, and say “forgive me father for I have sinned” and then a MAN told me I’m forgiven and go pray X number of HAIL MARYS” Like what?! 1. Jesus said verbatim, do not call any man your father, for you only have 1 father and he is in heaven. 2. This creates this idea in Catholics that we see all around, where they look at confession like a grace store. Stop by, grab some grace and go. It creates this sense (and I’m not saying all Catholics feel this way but some definitely do) where they can sin willfully cuz they can just go to confession and be forgiven. 3. Even if that was the case. Being told a penance, to go pray Hail Marys and our fathers is crazy. It takes away from the power of the cross and places salvation in my hands. I have to do x y and z to be forgiven. That’s not the Gospel AND EVEN if we needed to pray after confessing, why in the world would Mary be the one I pray too. But then again the holy rosary is like 50 Hail Marys and only 10 our fathers. So we can easily see how highly regarded Mary is. A human woman. They even believe Mary was sinless and died sinless which would make the book of Romans flawed because it says “no one is good, no not one” If you gave the holy Bible to a child on a dessert island, left him there alone for 20 years, and came back for him later. How much do you wanna get he would not go to a Catholic Church. From only reading scripture, alone, I feel like I can bet my paycheck he wouldn’t come off that island looking for a Catholic Church b
I snuck in my first communion because I was coming from an Anglican church and just walked up to the altar thinking "oh yeah I know this part." It wasn't until two years later during RCIA the priest whom I knew very well by that point looked at me and said "What are you doing here?" Come to find out I wasn't supposed to be taking communion that whole time - he told me not to worry about it, I wasn't the first person to slip through the cracks with good intentions, but he told me from now on it has another special meaning, I get to enjoy communion not just with the Lord but also with the entire Catholic Church family. It felt good to take communion before, but it does feel better now, especially when I'm visiting churches abroad.
@@amandadelassus2128 The Catholic Church excommunicated him. It was not his goal to start a new branch of Christianity; the Catholic Church forced his hand.
This whole COVID 19 got in the way of me being able to do RCIA. I converted to Catholicism 6 months ago and I've been dying to get baptized and confirmed into the Church and being able to receive Jesus in the Eucharist.
Father mike may I email you about an issue I am having, I am finding it hard to email my local priests as they never respond. Thank you for your great videos and god bless
I loved how you spoke so eloquently of the community as members of the Body of Christ when we are in full communion and receiving the Eucharist. What a beautiful image of saints in training coming together to recieve the beautiful gift of Jesus in the Eucharist, so that hopefully one day we will we all be united as one with our Lord in heaven.
As a Catholic I feel blessed to receive this inheritance that my parents got from their grandparents and my grandparents got from their grandparents and so on and so on and so long and I will continue to pass down to my children as well I am truly blessed... the church has Open Arms it will receive those who accept Jesus Christ as Lord and savior and who wants to receive him in Holy Communion that only a Catholic priest can provide in the Mass Jesus's arms were nailed wide open to receive anyone don't fool yourselves Jesus is Calling you by name...
Years ago, I allowed my then girlfriend (and now wife) to receive communion, even though she wasn’t Catholic. It’s really been weighing on me lately. Please pray for us, brothers and sisters.
Hey Aaron, I strongly advise you to bring this up in confession. I'm sure the Father of your parish will help you out, but you must speak to him about this (:
I’ve attended Catholic Church with my husband for 14 years. We moved recently and we’ve been at our new church for 2 years. I’ve taught Bible study and edge ministry along with my husband. I attended Catholic Church as a child with my neighbors, I profess my faith as Catholic, understand and know the catechism, and was even told by our priest, just 4 weeks ago, during a conversation at Bible study, that I have a much stronger faith and understanding than most people in our church. Last week, he found out I never received “first communion” as a child and haven’t attended RCIA as an adult. He withheld the Eucharist from me this past Sunday when I walked up to receive. I was devastated. The depression and anxiety and extreme pain that this has caused in my life feels unrepairable. You may want to find a way to protect your wife from this happening to her. 🙏🙏🙏
@@SpartanDuck Jesus shed his blood for everyone, but you need to accept Jesus in order to receive him. Non Catholics don't fully accept Christ in the Eucharist. They don't fully believe in the real presence. In Catholicism a believer is someone who accepts everything.
Excellent point about using that discomfort to motivate us towards unity. I hadn't thought about that before, but I definitely will now. As always, Fr. Mike, you continue to slay.
Sooooo long story short: A few years ago I had a difficult time with my faith. I was stripped down to only the foundations of Jesus being Lord of my life. God started revealing to my how He would use the the Catholic Church to restore my relationship in full. He used our brothers and sisters in Nicaragua and Colombia. I have studied the different parts of the Church, I went Misa/Mass in both Spanish and English. I am living back in Nicaragua going to Misa/Mass weekly now. I am speaking with local friends about the Catechism process for adults in Latin America. So hopefully I will take Holy Communion here in time!
I cry about this a lot. Today is Ash Wednesday. It hurts knowing that I have worked so hard to learn what to say at mass since I’m new by going up to 5 times a week, and work on reading my Bible and annotate it every day and journal, and work so hard to learn the rosary and pray it every day at least once, and I can’t take communion, but cradle Catholics at my university got to take it today, even though they never go to confession or mass or anything, and are lukewarm. Our university parish is so close & tiny so everyone knows everyone. It’s not fair. They haven’t worked for it at all and I have to give everything I can, 100%, 24/7 to prove myself and I still can’t. :(
Hi Olivia, I just wanted to say that I am so thankful for your love of Jesus. As someone who loves Him too, I just am moved by your efforts to grow in devotion and love of Jesus. Jesus loves you so much and there are so many fruits of the Holy Spirit at work in your life drawing you closer to Him. I know that your comment was posted a year ago but I was wondering how you were doing on your journey in becoming Catholic? Have you been able to join an RCIA program at your parish? God bless you Olivia and I hope that you have a great day! Love, Emma
Olivia, This being 2 years ago I am sure you have grown and change dramatically more in your life in Christ. However I must say, we do not earn our way to the communion table, it is a gift offered by Christ through his church - it is grace. Our efforts do not place us at the table with Christ, rather his mercy on our sin and grace to be with us has made a way for his church. Blessings!
The sin I have committed in the past that I have gone to confession for and no longer do... I never wanted to tell anybody that they could not take communion when I invited them to mass with me so I would just tell them "go up there put your hands like this and say Amen"... I still feel really bad about this, it's not an excuse but I was young when I committed this sin and did not necessarily know how bad of a thing it was that I was doing .....now I do ....and no longer do this but father Mike is right it is so hard to tell somebody that they cannot receive Jesus in the Eucharist Also God bless you father Mike I really love all of your videos and this one was especially important to me
Patrick Perkins ... It's called SIN Patrick, and I assure you, EXCEPT FOR OUR BLESSED MOTHER, every single Catholic since the time of Christ's resurrection has done something that they feel sorry for. SAINT PETER HIMSELF.. REJECTED KNOWING CHRIST! .. Imagine that?? A Saint!! And still Jesus forgave him!... God love you bro..
I don’t under how letting someone receive Jesus is a sin. Why should you have to work to get Jesus? That’s not how it was. Jesus broke the bread and drank the wine and didn’t say to some of them “you can’t eat my body and blood because you don’t fit the criteria”. That whole thing is bizarre!
Xio the way I understand it is someone that is not a Catholic and has not gone through the sacrament of Confirmation is not in full communion with the church and therefore cannot accept communion... That's how I understand it anyway
Patrick Perkins And how do people go through all of confirmation or whatever to take the catholic communion? I’m a Lutheran and It’s always been that you need to complete confirmation and then you can take communion.
I just went to the funeral of a family member that passed away. When is was time to go and receive the Eucharist, the priest explained who could come up and receive. Right after, one of my aunts, who hasn't been a practicing Catholic asked me (self-consciously) "Am I in a state of grace?" I smiled shrugged and told her "Well, you could come up for a blessing." It was so painful to say to her and I think she felt pain in hearing her niece tell her that. Thanks so much for giving words to what was happening in that moment. I wish she would come back into the church. Its so sad to see family members drift away. Thank you so much for making this video Father Mike. God bless! 💚
Fr Mike, I love your videos and your explanations. Thank you for all you do to explain Catholic teaching. Here is my question. I love the Lord with all my heart and in my home country attend a Baptist church although I feel comfortable in many Bible believing churches. Each year when I go to Greece, I attend a Catholic Church as it is much more accessible than the Orthodox which is in Ancient Greek and goes on and on for hours. The Catholic priest has given me an order of service in Greek and English, the prayers are beautiful and I love the hymns. When I go up for communion I say to my Lord Jesus, I am doing this as you asked us to, in remembrance of your amazing sacrifice on the cross. Thank you for dying for me. If I'm wrong, and this is really your body and blood, please forgive me. There are Catholics in the congregation who I've heard come out of church and say in later conversation, Jesus is just one way to God and there are some to whom He doesn't seem important at all. Why is it ok for them to partake of the Mass, but not for me?
JÚLIA MIRANDA Hi, I do not understand the whole question, but if you explain it to me, I think I can try to give you my opinion and see if we find the solution to your question, friend! So, can you explain it to me?
An Ultra-Christian Teen One example. When a guy was 12 he decided to practice parkour, but after learning some stuff he gave up. 4 years later he fell from a very high place and thanks for his parkour knowledge he didn't die. It was God who did that? It is God who free us of bad things? If it is, how do I know if it is God or not in each situation? If God made me practice parkour, didn't that break my free will? I hope I have explained better :) sorry for any english mistakes, it's not my first language
Tom Andrews thank you for your answer, but I don't think God can love us and not give us free will at the same time. He is not the one who chose my dinner, he only knew. But if it is all predicted, there's is no pointing in doing anything. If it's God who does this awful things in the world he is not really good.
Lol when I went to Catholic mass with my friends a few weeks back I didn't feel rejected. I respect that tradition. I understand what the Holy Communion is to Catholics.
I am delighted that you present this in the context of Communion and the need to pray for unity. I make an announcement at Communion time when I know large numbers of visitors are present that says exactly this. Let’s all pray for that unity. I have received thanks from visitors for this sacred context. Moreover, our RCIA usually numbers in the 20’s-30’s. Main reason? To receive our Lord in Communion, it is what convinces folks of the truth of the faith too.
I got stuck in the line to receive communion. I went with a friend . She had gone to talk to some one. I turned to the lady behind me and said I’m not Catholic. She said just cross your arms. I did this and the priest smiled at me.
I am still confused by this. I have been received into the body of Christ, and I do believe fully that communion is the flesh and blood of Jesus Christ. I have been baptized by both water and the Holy Spirit. Are you saying that only Catholics have been received into the body of Christ? The division among Christians is a painful thing. I don’t understand it. I was raised Catholic, my parents changed churches and then I had an Episcopal Confirmation, I partook in communion at both. It wasn’t until last year, however, that I truly found Jesus and entered into a personal relationship with the Lord. I now go to a (very mildly) Pentecostal Church and we often share services with the Baptist Church in the next over. I have been to many different churches belonging to many different denominations - and I have been witness to a few churches where the truth of God’s word was not truly preached or where there were add one - but all truly Christ centered churches seem to agree on everything. Except for one: their denomination is the only correct one. This really saddens me. Personally, I don’t want to belong to a denomination. I don’t want to say that I follow “Apollos” or I follow “Paul”. I simply want to say I follow Jesus.
Well, as far as I know, only catholics believe that Jesus presents himself fully, even in a physical way in the form of a wafer. And it's a pretty important thing churches do not agree on.
All Roads lead to Rome... Sometimes because we like the community in another church instead of the one we're at we simply move away... To another or because this preacher talks better than this one or what ever we tend to keep moving... And that is ok if you leave one Catholic church for another Catholic church... But it's another thing to leave The Catholic Church " for a false church... my sister don't be deceived... the Holy Eucharist is the blood and flesh our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and that you can only get inside of a Catholic Church when you leave the Catholic Church you leave Jesus Christ do not be fooled by these knock-offs... I invite you to go back home...
Thank you, Fr. Mike. I am an Episcopal priest, and in our church the controversy is around communion before Baptism. Although our teaching is that our communion is open to any baptized Christian, many clergy openly flout this in practice, offering communion to anyone who wants it, and even including rubrics to that effect in Sunday bulletins. I have taken some heat from my parish because I removed that message from the bulletin when I arrived here, and have gotten only half-hearted support from our bishop. I really appreciate your analogy of Eucharist before Baptism to sex before marriage, although I fear that many to whom I speak would not see a problem with pre-marital sex, either. Our church is in a tourist destination, and I am frequently asked by visitors if Catholics may receive communion in our church. I tell them that while the Episcopal Church is happy to welcome them to God's table, they really need to speak with their own priest about receiving in a church that is not in full communion with Rome. One of my favorite examples: Just before Mass, as the processional hymn was starting, an older lady slipped in the back door and approached me. "I'm Catholic. What's your theology of the Eucharist?" she asked. I responded, "True presence." She said, "Good enough," and sat down in the pew. BTW, and in contrast to all that, when I am on retreat at a Roman Catholic monastery, I usually take communion, but only after considerable discernment and conversation with a Jesuit spiritual advisor. I accept the warning of eating and drinking judgement to oneself, and if I had to rely on my own merits I could never partake worthily; however, I approach the altar with the Prayer of Humble Access, throwing myself on God's grace to unite me with Christ.
Hi, Casey. No, I was baptized as an infant in the Methodist Church, grew up in a family that did not attend church, and came to the Episcopal Church as an adult. My allegiance is to the one holy catholic and apostolic church, not necessarily the Roman Catholic Church. I find that I often resonate with many Catholic theologians (like Fr. Mike), as well as with some Evangelical Protestant theologians (like C.S. Lewis).
@@timothyfleck8665 so why not go all the way? What's holding you back? You do know that your holy orders are not part of the apostolic succession? You have the mind and heart of a Catholic, why not go all the way?
My husband is very upset with me because he believes that I am stopping him from receiving communion. I’ve tried to explain to him that it’s not I that is stopping him and that he only needs to make a good confession and receive forgiveness for his sins.
GOD LOVES' BROUGHT ME TO HIS CHURCH AND KNOW I AM ENROLLED IN THE RCIA BECAUSE I WANT TO BE ONE WITH JESUS !! HOLY COMMUNION IS WHAT BRING US MORE CLOSE TO GOD, I DONT RECEIVE HOLY COMMUNION BUT I RECEIVED HIS BLESSING !!! I CANT WAIT TO RECEIVE HOLY COMMUNION TO BE COMPLIANT!
Miguel, if only ALL Catholics were as fervent and excited as you (including this one), our work of evangelization would be super simple. Stay on fire! God bless you and your loved ones!

I am not a Catholic, but work within a Catholic ministry, organisation, I have never been refused the Eucharist, even in Rome, but also in Spain, France, England and Ireland. I asked a priest once if he was happy to give me communion and he was horrified that I had ever been given the impression that I could not receive the Eucherist in a Catholic Mass, as a commited member of the Family of Christ
@@GuitarBloodlines you dont know me or the priest in question which renders your comment redundant. There is a reason why most Catholic priests will give the Eucharist to non Catholics, and that is because the Catholic church allows them to,
The Church does not allow this. Have you read the Catechism? Now you know it’s wrong and continue to do it it’s your soul that’s in danger. That’s also super disrespectful that you think the rules should change for those of you who don’t want to be in communion with Rome can partake in the sacraments. You also havnt had a valid confession as you aren’t a Catholic and don’t claim the Catholic Church to be the true Church of Jesus so are taking the body of Christ while in mortal sin. Why do you think it’s acceptable for you take the literal body of Christ that he sacrificed for you while you are unclean and denying his Church?
I WAS A CATHOLIC ONCE AND I NEVER FULLY UNDERSTOOD MANY THINGS. WHEN I BECAME A PROTESTANT , I STARTED READING AND STUDYING (REPEAT, STUDYING) THE BIBLE. IT WAS ALSO THE TIME WHEN LEARNED WHAT IT MEANS TO HAVE A PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD. I LEARNED THAT ON THIS EARTH, THERE IS GOD'S LAWS AND MAN'S LAWS. CATHOLICS' BELIEFS, RULES, PROCEDURES, ETC. ARE MOSTLY MAN-MADE. MOST OF WHAT THEY WANT CATHOLICS TO BELIEVE ARE NOT BIBLICAL. (I KNOW THAT WHEN I TALK TO A PRIEST, HE WILL HAVE ANSWERS FOR ALL THE QUESTIONS I ASK BUT IF HE CANNOT BACK UP HIS ANSWERS WITH SCRIPTURES, THOSE ARE NOT BIBLICAL AND THEREFORE ARE NOT OF GOD). CATHOLIC CHURCH MAKES IT HARD FOR CATHOLICS TO ATTAIN SALVATION, WHICH MUST BE EVERY CHRISTIAN'S GOAL. IN THIS TOPIC FOR EXAMPLE, THE CATHOLIC CHURCH WILL GIVE COMMUNION EXCLUSIVELY ONLY TO CATHOLICS. WHEN WE DIE AND FACE JESUS, WOULD OUR LORD ASK IF WE WERE CATHOLICS WHO HAVE HAD COMMUNION OR WILL IT BE ENOUGH FOR HIM TO KNOW THAT WE BELIEVED IN HIM, HAVE CONFESSED OUR FAITH IN HIM AND ASKED FOR HIS FORGIVENESS FOR ALL OF OUR SINS? WITH CATHOLICS, AFTER DOING GOOD WORKS HERE ON EARTH, HAVING CONFESSED THEIR SINS AND RECEIVING COMMUNION, AND IN DEATH RECEIVED THE LAST RITE, CATHOLICS STILL BELIEVE THAT THAT'S NOT ENOUGH FOR ONE TO GO TO HEAVEN BECAUSE HIS SOUL WILL STILL HAVE TO BE PURGED OF SINS IN PURGATORY?! (PURGATORY IS NOT SPECIFICALLY MENTIONED IN THE BIBLE) THE CATHOLIC CHURCH ALSO BELIEVES THAT THE CATHOLIC CHURCH WAS THE FIRST CHURCH IN THE WORLD AND THE ONLY TRUE CHURCH. ALTHOUGH THE BIBLE MENTIONS CHURCH, IT DOESN'T SPECIFY "CATHOLIC CHURCH"!! I WISH CATHOLICS WILL NOT ONLY READ THE BIBLE BUT STUDY THE SCRIPTURES TO HAVE A FULL UNDERSTANDING OF WHO OUR GOD IS AND WHAT HE WANTS HIS PEOPLE TO BELIEVE.
I'm praying for you to read and understand more of Our beautiful faith. An online comment debate is of no use most of The times, but if you look up the channel Lizziesanswers, she, as a former protestant, explains a LOT Of what you brought up. God bless
I watched his video about the Eucharist and I believe he is right about it’s importance. What I don’t understand is where they get this idea that they have exclusive control over the Eucharist. I study my bible and find my church a little lacking something. I just want to be close to Jesus and looking for the best way.
And with this thinking the Jews are still waiting for their messiah. Sometimes the teachings go on and you have to ask the Holy Spirit to help you discern.
I came across this video quite by accident but I am very glad I did. I had a close friend that had lost her father, who she regularly attended mass with. She asked me to go with her to mass so she wouldn't have to go alone. I regularly attended a baptist church at the time. I said yes because I knew it was important to her and I was also curious about the Catholic faith. It was quite a negative experience for multiple reasons. It was very different from what I was used to and nothing was really explained. I felt very isolated and unwelcome. I never went back. I wish I had seen this video prior to going and perhaps the experience would have been much better.
Delicate subject worthy of conversation and hearing different points of view. St Peter administered Holy Communion to St Thomas when St Thomas was in a literal state of disbelief regarding the Resurrection. It was only AFTER St Thomas saw our risen Lord that he believed. Yet, he still was offered His Blood and Body with only a partial belief in Him.
As a Catholic, the hardest thing I have ever had to do was sit there (or rather, kneel there) at Mass and not receive Communion while everyone else did, but I will keep doing so until I am officially a practicing Catholic. The idea is discriminating, but in a good way; I don't think I have ever loved and desired the Eucharist more than when I could not have It.
Hi. I hope that I am not getting too personal, but are you saved? Jesus said, "Ask and you shall receive." Salvation is just that simple. Jesus also said, "This is eternal life, that you know God and Jesus Christ Whom He has sent." Do you know Him or will He say to you, "Depart from me; I never knew you"? I encourage you to read your New Testament. When doing so, you will have to make a choice: to choose to obey God or obey the Catholic church. You cannot do both! That said, the Catholics say that they will help you interpret the Bible, but, in reality, they contradict it. For example, you were denied communion, but Jesus commanded us to keep communion. Which will you follow: the words of Christ or Catholic doctrine? As you read the New Testament, you have a countless number of such dilemmas. I hope you will choose to follow Christ and not the apostate Catholic church! The Apostle Paul says that whoever preaches a different gospel, let him be accursed. Hence, I simply read and obey what Paul wrote. This puts the Catholics in a precarious position: if I simply obey Paul, I do not need the doctrines of the Catholics; yet, if I need a different doctrine, Paul says I should be accursed! I hope that you will have a personal encounter with Christ! I met Christ in 1977 and I can honestly say that I have not had one second of doubt that I know the Lord and am bound for heaven - not even for a second! You can have the assurance of salvation too! Concerning salvation, Jesus said, "Ask, and you shall receive!" Jesus Christ is the light of the world.
@@kenshiloh Paul also said in 1 Corinthians: “Whoever, therefore, eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of profaning the body and blood of the Lord. Let a man examine himself, and so eat of the bread and drink of the cup.” It is important to examine yourself and truly repent of your sins before doing something as important as receiving Christ in the most powerful and intimate sacrament of the Eucharist; it isn't about denying Christ, or else I wouldn't put so much care and attention into receiving Him! As for my relationship with Jesus, I don't think it could be any better. He is my light and my guide and I don't know what I would do without Him. As a matter of fact, I do not even remember the last time I did not receive the Eucharist at church. One more thing: I want to sincerely thank you for the way you structured your comment; while you did criticize me, it was in a perfectly just and loving manner, rather than condemning me, accusing me of not being a true believer, or something like that. I'm very glad to get to peacefully talk to a brother in Christ. God bless you, my friend!
@@j.m.turner1756 Wow! Thank you for your kind note. Concerning partaking of communion in an unworthy manner, may I ask, what is your assurance of salvation? For example, Jesus said, "Not everyone who says, "Lord, Lord" will enter heaven." How do you know that you are not one of those people who will not enter? Moreover, the Apostle Paul says that he does not judge himself (I Cor. 4.3). So, if not everyone who claims Christ is saved and we cannot judge ourselves, how can we know? As it is written, "I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life." There is no 'guess, hope, wonder if...' in the gospel! Here is what Christ says on the matter, "Whoever believes in Me will have rivers of living water bubbling inside unto eternal life." Do you have that? Does the Holy Spirit bear witness with your spirit that you are a child of God (Romans 8.16)? Is it the Holy Spirit (or the 'church') that leads you into all truth (John 16)? The bottom line is that I am really ok if you reject Sola Scriptura. That said, my question is, what do you do when the Catholic church blantantly contradicts Scripture? Are you suggesting I go with the church or with what is written in the Bible? If your church 'interprets' the Bible, then do you agree it will not contradict the plain teaching of Scripture? God is not the author of confusion! With the aid of the Holy Spirit, we can understand the Bible! I do not need your priests and scholars to lead me into ultimate truth; in fact, Jesus said to call no man teacher, as the Holy Spirit is my teacher and guide! Are you asking me to disobey my Lord? By the grace of God, that ain't happening! Again, it is the unwinnable (therefore unanswered) question that I have posed to many Catholics: I follow Paul's gospel. Do I need to do something different? If no, then why do I need you church? If yes, then Paul says you are preaching a different gospel and I should consider you accursed. What answers have Catholics given me? Most of the time, the question is ignored, followed by, "Will you doubt those who gave you the canon"? To which, I reply, "I don't know. How can I get in touch with them? Rumor has it they died about 1,600 years ago! If you have a moment, will you answer my question?" One Catholic dismissed the question with, "That has already been answered. Here's the link"! It is unanswerable, leaving you, a Catholic, in the uneviable position of contradicting the Word of God! Time to get right with the Almighty! Time is running out for you. That said, I appreciate the sentiment of calling me 'brother,' yet, if you are preaching a different gospel, I cannot say that we have a kinship spirit! In fact, the Bible says to test the spirits to see if they are of God. Do I need a different gospel than what Paul preached? If that is your position, I cannot, in a sense of faith, call you a brother! Instead, I call you to repent and believe THE gospel! I hope that you can sense my tone of love and concern. I hope that, if you do not know Christ, you He will fill you with that river of living water! Jesus Christ is the light of the world.
Milagros Plaza hey.... i don't think you should wait until you get married to receive holy communion. If there is something in your life, in this case your relationship that keeps you from being one with Christ then make things right with him now in whatever way you can. Getting married isn't going to remove the guilt from your life. I personally believe that your marriage itself would be a lot more God centred and wholesome if your relationship with the Lord is set right first.
Ayesha T well. I already spokeb to the Priest. And he said getting married is between my boyfriend and I. And that he's not gonna force me to get married. But that we should. I've been with ny bf for seven years. I know what i want.
Milagros Plaza Getting married isn’t going to solve it. Sure get married but go to confession and work on your relationship with God first. Then your relationship. Pray about it. And don’t be afraid to receive communion. Good luck girl! ❤️
Melissa Melissa you are correct, it is not. Any doctrine that is exclusionary of the Grace of God is not base on His Divine Word. Stay true to it Melissa, you are fine.
I love what you're doing with these videos, Father Mike. You present a winsome and cogent explanation of Roman Catholic particulars. Thank you. In this video, however, we're just a small step from saying "Christ's prayer for unity will only be fulfilled when Protestants agree with Roman Catholic particulars." (I say "Roman" because I am part of the Holy Catholic Church, but not the Roman division. And I do believe that I REALLY receive the Body and Blood of Jesus in Holy Communion. I think it is a spiritual reality rather than a physical reality, and spiritual reality is more important than physical reality (much less the physics or mechanics of trans- or con- substantiation). But I believe I really really really receive Christ's body and blood. And I believe you receive it the same way I do. God bless you. Keep up the good work.
I have watched several of Fr. Mike's videos. I like his enthusiasm and he seems like a genuine person. But after watching his videos, I know why I have left the catholic church. Lots of rules. In this case, it really rubbed me wrong. I do not think in the bible there was a distinction with Jesus when he gave his disciples bread and wine. (His body and blood). I do not think Jesus said if you were not catholic you can not receive his body and blood. What happened to "All are God's people."
I'm so sorry you feel this way. Contact a priest from your local Catholic Church and ask about this. There is a very good reason for these "rules." Please do some research on Eucharistic Miracles, it might help you understand why the Eucharist is not to be taken lightly. Thousands left Jesus when he told them about eating His flesh and drinking His blood. It was too much for disciples to handle. He asked His apostles if they were going to leave Him too. When you understand that the Eucharist truly is the Body of Jesus, not just a symbol, it might help you discern what Father Mike is saying. I'm not chastising you, I'm saying this with love. There is power in the Eucharist, the rules exist for a reason, faithful Catholics adore the Eucharist for a reason. It is Holy and sacred. May God bless you, and help you receive exhortation with an open heart.
Pat Aherne how sad and completely judgmental. Jesus told us to come to each other in love and not condemnation. “before you remove the sawdust from your brother’s eye, remove the log from yours.” Matthew 7:3-5 As a former Catholic, I was blinded by the false teachings of the Roman Catholic Catechism. Salvation through God’s Grace is available for all who accept Jesus Christ, repent and become a new creation in Christ. Then as Jesus commands, practice discipleship ( a disciple is a teacher) by spreading the “good news” of salvation to everyone you meet.
I believe that Jesus wants everyone to be able to take communion. It is not just for Catholics. At the last super Jesus said to take the bread, his body and the wine, his blood in rememberance of him. And I still don't understand why you can't take communion at a Catholic church if you are familiar with it at your own church. When I was 12 I went to a Catholic church with my friend and they made me get out of line. It was embarrassing and made me feel like I wasn't good enough . At my church in Arizona, a Christian Church they never denied anyone communion because they weren't with the church or of their faith, they were always very welcoming. Not only did they pull out of line but they were very rude and acted stunned that I was in line for communion and I was not a Catholic. Since then I am afraid to even go to a Catholic church because It did feel very unwelcoming and I don't like feeling judged because of my faith. I've had thoughts of converting since I found out alot of my family is actually Catholic and not Christian, baptist. but I still don't understand why Catholics pray to saints and Mary because in the Bible it says to pray to God and to Jesus Christ. I'd like to attend Catholic church and learn but like I said Im afraid I'd feel unwelcomed because of my faith.
Melissa; I feel the same way. I believe there is one God; One Jesus and One Holly Spirit. I know Communion is the Body and Blood of Jesus. I do not fear my Judgement as He is fair and my judgement will be based on my Deeds/Works.
I know this was written 11 months ago but I felt compelled to reply. I am so sorry to hear that you were pulled out of line and made to feel as though you were not worthy. That can be very traumatic and I understand why you have reluctance to attend a Catholic mass now. Referring back to what Fr. Mike said, the reason non-Catholics can’t receive communion is because it is a profession that you believe that the wine and bread you are receiving is literally the blood and body of Jesus Christ. Not a symbol, but his actual flesh and blood as described in the Bible. To take of this communion without fully understanding what you are taking a part in is a grave sin and a danger to your soul. I’m so sorry that you had a negative experience but I encourage you, if your heart so tells you, to try attending Mass again and go up during communion for a blessing. Simply follow the line and when you get to the priest cross your arms over your chest and the priest will lay his hand on your head and give you a blessing. If your heart is still pulling you towards the Catholic faith, speak the person in charge of the church’s RCIA program. Going through the RCIA process will teach you everything about the Catholic Church - particularly how everything that we practice comes directly from the Bible and Jesus’ commandments. As far as your questions regarding the saints and Mary, RCIA will answer your questions more in depth. But for a quick run down, we don’t pray to the saints or to Mary. We ask them for their intercession. Think of it like when you are in need of prayers and you asks your friend to say an extra prayer for you. It’s basically the same thing. I hope this helped to answer some of your questions. God bless you and be with you.
The feeling is ‘mutual’.... In the Orthodox tradition we do not believe in extending the holy mysteries (sacraments) to those who are not baptized Orthodox and unprepared to receive; which means for us, recent confession with absolution, and fasting (which for us means from midnight until the morning of the Liturgy (or at least 6 hours before Liturgy if it’s an evening Liturgy with communion). It’s ‘funny’ how we define what ‘Catholic’ means to both you (as Latin /Roman Catholic) and us as (Eastern Orthodox)... we defined this in the Creed at the Council of Nicea and for the first thousand years we were the undivided Church, then the schism happened. Now, my understanding is that that rule of offering the sacraments to “non-Catholics” by Roman Catholic parishes or clergy does not apply to Eastern Orthodox, only to Protestants or those who do not profess the creed as we do. In the Orthodox Church, Catholics cannot receive the sacraments unless they are baptized and receive absolution or chrismation from a canonical Orthodox priest / bishop. It IS painful. I respect and love both my Latin Catholic brothers and sisters as well as the Pope of Rome, whom I have found myself defending even against professed Catholics who dislike him. Christ calls us to unity, of this there is no doubt, it IS unmistakably God’s will. I pray that His will be done... Preferably in my lifetime... Kyrie eleison .... Forgive me a sinner.
You guys are lucky you fly under the radar with the sola scriptura kooks. I believe that "Catholicism" should have a 3rd definition: all of the ancient rites. We were once in communion and have the same sacramental system. In other words, despite the schism, Orthodoxy in a way can be called a form of ancient Catholicism. If you ever mention the Dormition of Theotokos to the sola scriptura hardliners, don't be shocked if they start dropping the same tomfoolery on you guys that we get over hear in Latin Land.
I have also been bombarded with this question even in own family because in Malaysia, many Catholic churches put up a notice on the video screen stating that non catholics are not allowed to receive Holy Communion and to do their personal prayer at that time. My sister, who lives in Europe, said who are we to decide who can and cannot receive holy communion. We have had big arguments there. Yes, as Catholics, we are aware of the miracle of the changing of bread and wine but we do not link it to Holy Communion. We seem to have forgotten about the key point here. We forget that receiving Holy Communion is really receiving Jesus. Many still behave or believe it a symbol. So thanks Father Mike. As a catechist, I will have a better answer next time.
Priests need to talk about receiving the eucharist during a mass and why it's important. As a reminder. Alot of people go through the motions and have lost the purpose.
Hello I’m a Christian that is not Catholic and it drives me crazy that others don’t respect your communion. Thank you for the honesty I really enjoy your channel. I attend my Protestant church and Catholic Church weekly. Catholic has masses daily and the Blessing the Priest gives for our family is great and we are still welcome.
Thank you for posting this. I'm a catholic. But my half sister is not she's actually jewish..and she asked ne why she cannt recieve the body and blood of christ. I know how its like to feel rejected...i have not recieved communion yet but ai did receive baptism and confermation. Last year avtually before Hurricane Maria...on the 17th. And whenever I'm in Mass and i see the people recieve thr communion I feel a oain in my heart. Because I can't recieve it yet, because im living with my boy (who has all the sacraments) except Marriege.
Milagros Plaza ... There's many Catholics who shouldn't be receiving Holy Communion, and they do anyway. It's sad, but many Catholics have never been properly instructed that we could only receive Holy Communion when we are in a STATE OF GRACE! Hopefully soon you and yours will come and join us in Our Lords Holy Catholic Church where everyone is welcome! ! GOD BLESS!
As a former protestant, this was one of the biggest things that I struggled with catholicism. It definitely felt exclusive as a non-member. But going through RCIA I've expanded my knowledge about the eucharist. I've taken the leap of faith because I know this to be true even if I don't fully understand it. But I'll continue to learn and reflect and pray on this. Thank you for the helpful video
You just answered Ive had since I was 15 and got to know protestants, born again christians and the like Im 31 now so this is so helpful. I have an obvious answer to people who ask me WHY? ITS JUST BREAD! thank you Padre
When I was going thru RCIA, the priest allowed me to come up during the Eucharist and receive a blessing. Receiving a blessing at that point in the Mass made me feel welcome.
Lisa Herrling Well said.
But that is still a second class thing.
Lisa Herrling our priest does this as well and it definitely helps some
Nate Graham A Blessing is never a second class thing. It is a Blessing.
I might believe that if it wasn't done only for those who can't partake in the main act.
Wow! You are so very wise!
Same!
You are receiving so much grace - at 16 you are already searching for truth. You are very brave. God bless you and may you bring many more souls back home.
Looking at the time you posted this, I think I must have been going through the same thing at the same time. Was you accepted into the church at the Easter vigil?
@@englishpackers-fan7026 I was! And I've happily continued my path into the truth, and have been looking into possible convents.
God is so good 🙏🤍
What a beautiful thing to read, I’m really considering embarking on RCIA. Reading testimonies like this really make me want to take that leap.
Ok. My BS detector went off.
Don’t want any part of this deception. I know God. I don’t need to be “converted” I am already His. 100 💯 percent.
I'm so sorry you experienced that, TRIRAD. I will pray for that priest. Welcome home.
Thanks!
@@sebastienbedard411 You have to be Catholic.
Your tremendous insight gives witness of the Holy Spirit blessing you.

I got baptized when I was 7, but I've never been regularly to mass until late last year, now I'm 18 and I attend mass every Saturday or Sunday, I never received my first communion and I feel like there's something missing in me when I can't receive it since I know that's Jesus' body...I'll, hopefully, receive it by the end of this year, I'm really looking forward to it.
beautiful that you'll be receiving your first communion this year🙏🏽💞
Lluís Melián ..
God Bless you & you will receive the fullness of God in the Holy Communion.
Lluís Melián I am not Catholic . I was baptized as a Christian in a Christian Church when I was 7 and anyone can receive communion.
As a convert, just started RCIA, I love the way Father Mike can tell the things I need to know.
It hurts because you love Him. Don't worry, looking forward to having you soon in our familY!
1 John 2:1,2
Hoping that you will read with your heart and eyes open as I know that the RCC has told so many that they are the one true church and anything else is heretical. Just read the scriptures as they are above the RCC.
Glad you're taking the steps to become a Catholic. I'm praying for you 🙏
@@pearlyseine8957 Which is more important being a born again believer in Christ or becoming a catholic ?
Do you believe the Eucharist is the literal body and blood of Christ?
@NMaxne yes.
Right?
I'm in the process of converting to the Catholic church and when we attend Mass I say this prayer during the Eucharist: Spiritual Communion Prayer
My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the Most Holy Sacrament.

Why I don't go to Catholic church
Patience is a virtue!
gridirongirl11 -- a lot of people have said that, and that it has strengthened their love for Him and their faith as practicing Catholics
gridirongirl11 I received the Eucharist for years before I was Confirmed. Is what your doing one of those old tight tradition things?
Alias -- She's probably a convert. If you're not raised Catholic, then you're confirmed and receive First Communion in the same Mass.
KA Fleury I’m raised and I received confirmation years after First Communion.
@@philipdouglas5911 are you an Anglican?
I wouldn't ever go back to a Catholic church if they rejected me
@@timechangeseverybody3608 I didn't either
Roman and Orthodox churches are similar to twins that had one bad day in their relationship.
you can receive Eucharist if you believe the bread is the REal Body of Christ...Protestants and Anglicans don't believe in Real Body of Christ....Eastern Orthodox believe in Real Body of Christ in the Bread..So no problem with them....
Lutherans are taught about the miracle of transubstantiation
So yes Protestants Also have overlapping beliefs.
Even Catholics can not- per the Bible- receive if they are receiving “unworthily.” Here’s some scripture:

Hello all. As a born and raised Catholic, I have taken interest in this topic because it can be a tough concept to talk about with authority. When people ask me why the stance is what it is, I simply tell them that "this is what the Catholic church has determined."
I understand that many like to contend that there is indisputable Word that this is the "law" but I have not found it.
It's almost as if Paul is instructing the church "come to church satiated, so that you're not blindly and 'hangrily' disrupting and causing judgement."
I respect the church to make practices as it sees fit, in order to have structure.
Glad that you have now understood and have let go of your resentment 😊
Jen Chris what I understand above all is that an awful lot of priests cannot actually explain their faith. There might be more than Fr Mike. I haven't met them yet.

Father Mike, I'm discerning becoming a Catholic, but there's one big hurdle I just can't get over.
God bless :)
watch again the video... It has the answer...
Ya man, he explained pretty well. We shouldn't ignore our divisions, or celebrate them. That's not what the Bible teaches.

Sadly, I don't think that Christian unity is possible unless the Catholic Church either radically reforms, or is voluntarily dissolved.
As Paul wrote, "Whoever preaches a different gospel, let him be accursed."
I hope that you will follow the Bible and not the apostate Catholic church.
You should speak to your priest about your belief that baptism does not matter.
Come back home to the Catholic church
You've put this so much better than the priest that told me to "sit, this bit isn't for you" with no explanation, I never attended a church service since because I thought he was just being incredibly rude.
Don't reject Jesus because of Judas.
And if one does discern the Body, in the way the Church interprets that, the door is always open to become a practicing Catholic.
agreed! (1 Corinthians 11 : 27 for anyone interested - www.catholic.com/magazine/online-edition/the-most-straight-forward-verse-about-the-eucharist-in-the-bible)
I think this comment should highlighted.
@@aleenapoulo4654 idiot, that is nonsense. anyone can receive communion at mass.
exactly my thoughts. most catholics don’t believe the elements are the actual body, either, yet they take communion. the catholic church believes it is the one true church. i’m glad i am united methodist. catholics are welcome to take our communion, but their church forbids them to. guess they would have to go to confession.
@@phillipkuhlman7468 yea. Confession smh another issue I had with the church. Jesus said “I am the only mediator between man and God” and yet when I was raised in the Catholic church i was raised I needed to go to a man, call him FATHER, and say “forgive me father for I have sinned” and then a MAN told me I’m forgiven and go pray X number of HAIL MARYS”
Like what?!
They even believe Mary was sinless and died sinless which would make the book of Romans flawed because it says “no one is good, no not one”
If you gave the holy Bible to a child on a dessert island, left him there alone for 20 years, and came back for him later. How much do you wanna get he would not go to a Catholic Church. From only reading scripture, alone, I feel like I can bet my paycheck he wouldn’t come off that island looking for a Catholic Church b
@@aleenapoulo4654 brilliantly put, thank you for that as I also needed to hear that. God bless you
Trans substantiation is the cornerstone of my Catholic belief! Many blessings for your continued sharing the truth and the word!
We are one! One shepherd, one holy church, one holy communion. We share his Joy's and sufferings. Divided makes Jesus painful and sad.
Martin Luther should have remembered that before he started his shenanigans.
We are so excited to be able to see you in person this weekend in Dallas. Thank you so much for all that you do father.
This was actually really helpful. Thanks so much!
Years ago, I allowed my then girlfriend (and now wife) to receive communion, even though she wasn’t Catholic. It’s really been weighing on me lately. Please pray for us, brothers and sisters.
How are you now
Is this really a big deal to catholics to worry about doing that? Im just curious. Didnt Jesus shed blood for all believers not just catholics?
Love, Emma
Me too
Olivia, This being 2 years ago I am sure you have grown and change dramatically more in your life in Christ. However I must say, we do not earn our way to the communion table, it is a gift offered by Christ through his church - it is grace. Our efforts do not place us at the table with Christ, rather his mercy on our sin and grace to be with us has made a way for his church.
Blessings!
Have you become Catholic?
The sin I have committed in the past that I have gone to confession for and no longer do... I never wanted to tell anybody that they could not take communion when I invited them to mass with me so I would just tell them "go up there put your hands like this and say Amen"... I still feel really bad about this, it's not an excuse but I was young when I committed this sin and did not necessarily know how bad of a thing it was that I was doing .....now I do ....and no longer do this but father Mike is right it is so hard to tell somebody that they cannot receive Jesus in the Eucharist
Also God bless you father Mike I really love all of your videos and this one was especially important to me
Patrick Perkins ...
SmithsnMoz thank you for the kind words bro God bless you
I don’t under how letting someone receive Jesus is a sin.
It's awesome.. Makes me understand deeper about receiving the Eucharist.. I'm so blessed to be a Catholic woman.
God bless! 💚
I'm a "Cradle Catholic" who had my First Communion in 2nd grade. I had no idea what was going on; most of my classmates didn't either.
GREAT question! That really gets to the heart of the matter, doesn't it?
Fr mike, could you make a video about god’s intervetion and how it doesnt contradict our free will?
JÚLIA MIRANDA
Hi, I do not understand the whole question, but if you explain it to me, I think I can try to give you my opinion and see if we find the solution to your question, friend!
So, can you explain it to me?
It does contradict free will. In fact, God's absolute knowledge of the future means you don't actually have free will.
Elijah Mumford Does God know what you'll have for dinner tomorrow? If so, is it possible for you to have something other that what God has foreseen?
Glad to hear this.
Keiko Cupcakes amen!!!

I’ve tried to explain to him that it’s not I that is stopping him and that he only needs to make a good confession and receive forgiveness for his sins.

I am not a Catholic, but work within a Catholic ministry, organisation, I have never been refused the Eucharist, even in Rome, but also in Spain, France, England and Ireland. I asked a priest once if he was happy to give me communion and he was horrified that I had ever been given the impression that I could not receive the Eucherist in a Catholic Mass, as a commited member of the Family of Christ
you're seriously harming yourself and that priest is wrong and needs correcting
Amen! Well said. This is almost exactly what I said in my comment
Sometimes the teachings go on and you have to ask the Holy Spirit to help you discern.
yeah you said it to yourself, you didn't understand and study your previous religion.
I just visited a daily mass for the EXACT same reason and I VERBATUM felt the same way!! Such a terrible feeling.
I want to get Married to receive The eucharist..I don't want to feel the pain in my heart anymore
Ayesha T agreed
Ayesha T well. I already spokeb to the Priest. And he said getting married is between my boyfriend and I. And that he's not gonna force me to get married. But that we should. I've been with ny bf for seven years. I know what i want.
Ayesha T and im happy in my relationship. I just really want to recieve the eycharist.

Getting married isn’t going to solve it. Sure get married but go to confession and work on your relationship with God first. Then your relationship.
Pray about it. And don’t be afraid to receive communion. Good luck girl! ❤️
And Communion is not just for the Catholic family.
I think you're confusing the symbolic action with the Catholic Eucharist. They're different.

Totally wrong.

Rules mean order.
If you want to be a rebel be a Protestant.
If you want to be saved be a Catholic.

Pat Aherne how sad and completely judgmental. Jesus told us to come to each other in love and not condemnation. “before you remove the sawdust from your brother’s eye, remove the log from yours.” Matthew 7:3-5
As a former Catholic, I was blinded by the false teachings of the Roman Catholic Catechism. Salvation through God’s Grace is available for all who accept Jesus Christ, repent and become a new creation in Christ. Then as Jesus commands, practice discipleship ( a disciple is a teacher) by spreading the “good news” of salvation to everyone you meet.
People need the knowledge and love of Jesus before they can receive Him
I believe that Jesus wants everyone to be able to take communion.
Father Mark, can you please talk about 2 Peter 2.
There is so many people creating churches and being fool by those false pastors.
Milagros Plaza, if you live together as brother and sister (no sex) then you may receive the Sacraments.
A Jew wanting to receive holy communiun?
What madness is this.
Crown Admirer it's not madness. My Mom is jewish. So my little sister is jewish. They came to my baptism and confirmation so it means alot.
! GOD BLESS!
SmithsnMoz i know what you mean. Thanks.
@@brandi8040 cuz in catholics, some studied to a catholic school and catholic school we have our 1st holy communion.
You just answered Ive had since I was 15 and got to know protestants, born again christians and the like
Im 31 now so this is so helpful. I have an obvious answer to people who ask me WHY? ITS JUST BREAD!
