- The Syracuse Orange fought for a huge 86-79 win over the No. 7 North Carolina Tar Heels in front of a great crowd at the JMA Wireless Dome. Judah Mintz and JJ Starling played exceptionally well, seemingly taking turns hitting big shots for the Orange in the 2nd half. Mintz scored 16 of his 25 points in the 2nd half and Starling scored 13 of his 23 points after the break. As a team, the Orange shot 63% from the floor in the win. RJ Davis led the Heels with 19 points and Armando Bacot recorded his 80th career double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds in the loss.

Finally a quad 1 win for the Orange🎉😊! Fantastic game by our guards Mintz and Starling! Coach Autry made gutsy decision to play zone 99% of the game! Go Orange!!! Hopefully we can get on a streak!!!

Cormac Ryan has been more of a liability for this team than a factor, whether it is poor shooting from 3 or tunovers, 7 for 25 in our losses from 3 point range 28%.Tonights loss was from 2 other factors. 1. the syracuse guards simply had the height advantage and used the midrange game(inside 10 feet) all night.2. H Davis did nothing to change the pace of the game until the last 2 minutes.No traps to speed them up to our pace. We never changed our defense to stop the penetration.We simply let them dictate the game. We lack shooters and it is a copy cat leaugue.Teams will dare someone on unc besides rj davis to prove they can beat them from the perimeter.

Hats off to Syracuse. Judah and JJ Starling dominated. The Cuse could not miss in this game and it enabled them to set up that zone for large portions of the game.
Armando should have dominated in this game. Malik Brown was a matchup Carolina should have consistently taken advantage of. Especially considering the Orange never really looked to double him on the block. Needed him to be much more aggressive.
Cormac actually had a decent shooting night…..he just also had five ATROCIOUS turnovers. If it’s not one thing it seems like it’s another.
Georgia Tech game was bad, but I really feel like something has changed from the dook game. Heels need a hard reset. 🐏🏀💪🏼
Did anyone else see the 2 missed walking calls and the one missed double dribble? Syracuse played good but damn those calls would have been called in a street game. They were embarrassing calls to miss for those refs. Shame

I know I am in the minority here, but I have always loved the Syracuse 2-3 zone, and I believe it has won them a large number of games, especially during the NCAA tournament. Would they have won tonight sticking to man-to-man? I doubt it. I have to wonder how many more games they could have won this season playing it consistently.
Minority or not you're correct. I can't say we wouldve won more games who knows but we def would be better defensively and probably rebounding too. People who hate the zone don't know basketball honestly. The only legit knock is it hurts our players for nba not having the man to man experience other than that it only benefits our team. We don't have 5 star players all over the floor we can probably get away with man against mid level teams but the zone is basically mandatory vs top tier teams. We can't score with them and certainly can't guard them they have all-Americans everywhere. Cuse has never had the recruits as the top teams yet we always have a shot to make a run. It's basically solely because of the zone. Keeps teams in the 60s and 70s and we need that because we don't have the ability to break 80 consistently. Cuse with a legit 3 pt threat or 2 and that zone are scary for anybody.

Bacot does his Harry Hudini act once again. Teams already have a blue print for the Heels. Their guards are under sized an that is easy pickings. How many times did Cormac Ryan turn the ball over. At times the lights are too bright. Hubert is starting to get the same ole song to not playing the bench. There will be a flood of portal transfer again. High should play more.

@@jarrollin basically there is no "top" . This is because there's no long term top end talent in the college game anymore. You can't sit there and tell me this crap with THE north carolina tarheels losing to everyone who shows up is normal or business as usual. When I was a kid that name meant something under Dean Smith and if teams came to play the Tarheels ,unless they were from chapel Hill, they were in trouble. When teams lost a game like that back then they either soul searched and got it together, or they just kept falling until they were out the top 25, having proven to be bogus. Apparently nowadays you can lose two games to unranked teams in as many weeks and keep your top ten rankings...and nothing at all seems fishy about that to you? Ncaa always conducting investigations for their health I guess. Through NIL in the mix and how most players aren't getting it, along with the ridiculous transfer portal shenanigans 🤣 and what you have is alot of kids that aren't invested in their programs at all. Funny we let the AI and the algorithms set the lines, but the sportswriters and AP still set the top 25...sure buddy nothing fishy about that at all lol.
