The lady came in and water boarded the judge with excuses
She did but judge Caprio only dismissed it based on the reason he gave. If it wasn't for that reason he would have fined her the $85.

That joke about the panelbeater removing the ding in the fender --- I thought the punch line was going to be about when her husband saw the car, he asked what happened to the car -- there was a ding there (which he had caused) and it is now gone.
Yes that is the extended version when the joke becomes a story; the $5 hammer tap with the $95 of experience fixed not only the big dent but the previous small ding. And before the husband part, on the way home, she picks up a priest and a rabbi and stops at a pub where a bulb needs to be replaced too.
Nice anecdote about the fender, I am definitely going to use it with my clients. I am an Audiologist, and I know how to properly customize and program the hearing aids for my clients, but they say that the same hearing aids are available at another"shop" at much lesser price, they forget that they aren't just buying the hearing aids, they are buying good hearing too.

Thanks again for good and fair judgement, Judge Caprio! For comparison I like to tell folks how much the fine is in the Netherlands when going through a red light. By car: $ 253, by moped $ 176, by bicycle $ 99 and on foot $ 71. Quite a bit steeper than in Providence!
$430 in Australia and 3 demerit points, over here if you can stop on yellow you must stop or the fine is the same as running a red

Here in Japan we have a very totally different system from the United States, we cannot proceed either left or right if the light turns red, this is a violation here and can cause very serious accidents and so it is a precaution if piercing the left or right turn may be fined and you may lose your license
Same in Finland. If you go thru red light, they will take licence away automatically. For 2 months.

The judge did explain what is happening. He's making the right choices, that's the thing. He's trying to prevent the mistakes from occurring again. Most of the time that works, in the other cases he treats stuff fairly and as kindly as it is possible in the situation. He will complain about attitude problems, but also understand if there is a reason behind them and still give a reduced punishment for that. If he sees a bad record, he will be cautious but still benevolent.

In NYC, when the Dept of Transportation, put up new signs, normally on a Sunday night, the local police precinct has a hidden car at the sign giving out tickets one after another. Good luck getting these tickets dismiss in NYC.
Exactly. One must have recently changed and I freaked out because I could see the Highway entrance and didn’t know how to get back to it but now suddenly couldn’t take a left. I explained that I just had been fired earlier that day and I just didn’t see that it had changed -- gave be a ticket anyway

In New York State a Right on Red after stopping is an OPTION. It doesn't constitute obstruction of traffic if someone is stopped at a red light and doesn't choose to turn. Strange ??? Every state is different.

Last case: I am really curious, was that "right on red after stop'" sign put up recently based on the number of fender-benders reported or....was it just another opportunity to collect more revenue? Because honestly, these infractions seem to be more about revenue than safety.
I am not being facetious or snarky. Can someone from this area please let me know?
it probably is to increase revenue. Unfortunately the state is corrupt and parking tickets/speed tickets/traffic tickets are one of the biggest ways to steal funds from civilians and ensure they can basically never get it back without fighting in court. Even the good judge here has expressed frustration at many of the city's/state's various ordinances during some of these proceedings.
It makes no sense to me why they would allow a right on red without stopping in the first place.

With the guy, the Judge asked what kind of work he did, he said auto-body repair, Judge then proceeded to tell a story about how much body shop people rip you off, then he went ahead and charged the body shop worker for the ticket with no remorse lol. He figured "This guys got plenty of money, he can pay the ticket"
