Right?! I was shocked to see so few BTS clips and interviews. Barely any interactions with the rest of the cast. I only found a few clips that I'm trying to translate now.
@@animezero imo he was more interesting than the main couple. He's an immortal butler to a noble household because he loved their queen 200yrs ago, but also secretly a self-exiled prince of a race of merpeople who are being oppressed by people like the nobles he serves, and he's waiting for his lost love's reincarnation. Like, I would only rewatch the show for him.
thanks for this video. same here. one of alen fang's better acting roles. i also loved his character as Chi Yuan. it's so tragic to see him endure the longest promise. i really wished Chi Yuan wasnt among the antagonists, to descend from being noble to destruction. for those who read the book, was chi yuan painted the same way? The screenwriters needed to have a powerful antagonist to continue creating opportunities for a transformation of the hero+heroine. while the heroes journey to be complete had to have obstacles, i really wished it wasnt chi yuan.
Me too, I initially thought the 3 main characters would end up working together to defeat a different antagonist. I’m also curious as to whether the writers changed his storyline and ending from the book 🤔
Im not done with the show yet (15 episodes left) but i love him so much. He needs more screen time and from what ive heard a much better ending. He should have been the ML character, lol!
I finished it. Yeah. Not happy with his ending at all!!! He was the highlight of the show for sure. I was so excited when he returned and then they did...that. 😢
@animezero yeah, it doesn't even fit his character! He literally died to protect the Sea Emperor and then all of a sudden was like, nah. I'll flip on him. What???? I get that the evil God was supposed to be so strong and blah blah but since we had no build up it made it just bizarre
Totally, this was exactly my thoughts too! All the self sacrifices he made were just forgotten about and suddenly he becomes the bad guy…it was abrupt and felt out of place with the rest of his story.
The Longest Promise could have just been a love story between Zhi Yuan and Zhu Yan, defying all odds against humans and mermans being together, the tragedy and the angst associated with their races. Like a Romeo and Juliet story.
Love his subtle but real expressions. Difficult for him to look evil. But protective, loving and modest- Wonderful character
I really liked Alen Fang as Chi Yuan. 💜 I just wish there were more behind the scenes and the Longest Promise interviews involving him.
Me too 😊
Seriously, he's barely in anything. I love his character so much😭😭😭

Its very rare that you find a fictional character who is both interesting and a literal saint but here he is.
a great character ❤️ I would have loved to have seen a story where he is the main character

I could only re-watch it if I pretended the last few episodes didn’t exist, or else I would just get annoyed and disappointed by the ending again lol

I agree, for me he stole the show ❤️

I was the same, I’m now ignoring the final episodes as the characters, him in particular, could have had such a better ending.
