It's not just Thai woman that seem to have a preference for foreigners. It seems to be a general trend in SE Asian. The main reason seems to be they view them as better partners (ie not sleeping around, not beating up the girl, etc), plus they are better financially.
Something I think you should talk about is the new requirement to bring a spouse back to the UK. I think it would benefit a lot of people thinking about taking their misses back.

Peter, FYI parenthetically, some municipalities frown on feeding pigeons, ducks, etc. because it also amounts to feeding other vermon like mice and rats. Audience would have highly appreciated to know especially as the few people over the years have been practically shell-shocked when we've told them about this :- Ok so the wife and I are both UK born Brits but over the last decade or so we have spent 3-4 months of each year in Thailand. So, naturally with us being especially outgoing types, we've built up a large(ish) network of good Thai friends. This is how we came to learn certain facts and truths about Thais and the cultural bits and oddities that exist but most tourists or foreigners just won't pick up whilst on holiday. So, in this case I'm talking about Thai men... If you ever skipped through MTV or other music channels whilst chilling in your hotel room you will no doubt (after the mainstream faster Thai pop genre) have come across a unique sounding slower Thai style of music which always is accompanied with a sad Thai female (crying is common or she will be on the floor or at the very least on her knees). They tend to sound so similar to each other with 90% having the same beat style and chords used even lol... Oh and shockingly as sooo many Thai women can relate, at least one song at a time is almost always placed within the Top 10! You see, sadly it is common knowledge to Thais that the majority of men tend to treat their women badly, both mentally but more so physically... not only that, but in the lower classes, men are commonly HEAVY drinkers. However, the issue that women absolutely detest the MOST is the next part. It is widely accepted (but never appreciated by wives) that men are permitted in their culture to keep a "Mia Noi" (a second [or little] wife!). Basically they can have sexual relations with one legally documented (usually) other female and the law can't punish them! No lie, crazy eh?! I've rambled on plenty and could have gone on as there were a couple of other reasons but maybe another time ;) - I hope whoever stumbles across my comment enjoyed this sad yet interesting tidbit... All the best guys & gals!

Please take note, girls preferring "foreigners", by that I suspect you mean white, that is not a phenomenon in all SEA countries. It's girls from Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines in particular. Maybe Cambodia, Laos also. Many of them dream of settling overseas and think of a better life. The other SEA countries, they do not go for western men, and those who end up with one, most likely studied overseas and happen to hook up while there.

After living here for more than ten years and I don't believe any of this. Money only comes second to family here and even then I am not sure.I could be wrong and maybe somebody knows where a man in a long term relationship where the man has not put a huge amount of cash into the family or business or the man pays each month.
You must have had a bad experience or two because that's definitely not true I've got friends who are married to Thai women and have families and they don't look after families other than their own and they haven't injected big wads of cash into the Partners bank account either

You have to ask yourself why would so many Thai girls be attracted to Western man over a Thai man the cultural gap is so huge. I have lived and worked in many parts of the country over the past eleven years and my experience is expats are generally seen as a means to an end. I have seen very little eviedence of romance as we would know it in the West. The huge majority of girls / stroke women here do see us as walking ATMs I am afraid. Money is king. Even giving merit at a temple is a selfish act here. Thais believe the more they give the more they will recieve in return, Look around you in Bangkok at the obviously wealthy Thais who look the other way when they see a begger in the street, They are not part of our family so we don't care. Having said all of that I'm very happy here. I am with with a very special girl, but I know my place in society here and am slowly getting better at playing the game, lol.
