this looks like not enough mechanical advantage to me. the block attaches to the mast forward of the midpoint, and then moves forward still more. It doesn't look very thick either, 8mm? and it's just a 2:1 purchase (ignoring the other block that goes up again even closer to the mast, just to clear that hatch. I think this will put a massive strain on the cabin top, once it gets windy. Although, it's been two years since this video was made so I guess you know now. I came here because I have been installing "german mainsheet" on my boat, but my understanding was that "german" referred to having two mainsheets (and no traveller) you sheet in on the windward sheet and then use the leeward one to control twist (something like that)
. Congrats Do like your articulation thru both videos It's helpful what you've encountered you're sharing and learning with us My 22 ft MacGregor did not come with a traveler so like you am considering adjustments if any Be Well God Bless ~ ...
Thanks for these videos I’m just looking at moving the mainsheet traveler from the cockpit sole to above the hatch along with heightening the boom from breaking my head enabling me to fit a dodger on a 27’. What traveler did you change to? What I’m looking at seem to be expensive for what the are Looks like I’m local to you I’m at Heybridge Basin. Having just subscribed you’ve supplied some binge watching material for me today 🙏👍
Glad you enjoyed the video! I found it cheapest to buy the components separately. I used Lewmar High Beam track in the end (size 1) and Lewmar NTR car & end stops. If you ring round some of the chandleries they may have off-cuts of the track (which is what I did) and saved a little there. Sometimes the cars can come up on facebook and eBay too. It's not a cheap thing to do unfortunately but I've found it worth it. I'm yet to visit Heybridge Basin but it's certainly on the list. Good luck with moving your mainsheet!
I've just found your channel, where have you gone?? Good explanation and demonstration of the German sheet, thanks

Looks to be a great mod Ricci, you just need to get rid of that wheel now 😉.
Thanks Paul! But how would I pretend she was the QE2 without a wheel 😳🤣
