Thank you for sharing this, Mr. Valentine. WPIX in NYC ran Bud and Lou films on Sunday mornings at 11:30, in the 60's and 70's. We'd come home from church and race to the TV room to watch them. They raised more money in bond drives during WW 2 than anyone else, enough to build 6 Iowa class battleships! One of the great comedy teams ever. RIP boys.
I grew up during the same time period and remember running home after Church to do the same thing, watch Abbot and Costello movies. My parents would get a kick out of me, laughing by myself, while I was in my room while watching these holdsome movies. I turned my two boys on to them when they were small and till this day till this day, they love watching them. "Ride em Cowboy" is one of their favorite movies!
@@gc4282 Thanks for sharing that. By the way Lou was All State in basketball in high school, the first time he went to Hollywood - it didn't work out - he supported himself by betting $$$ with the local yokels in neighborhood pick up games. They couldn't believe the little fat guy ran rings around them. He was always athletic despite the weight, at the 31:54 mark he has well defined large arms and a big chest which explains why he could do all those flips and pratfalls. Alan Hale - the "Skipper" - was a body builder in his younger years, he played the owner of a gym on Jack Benny but a few tears later he had packed on 40 pounds on Gilligan. He still was immensely strong and regularly sucked in younger men into betting on arm wrestling with him. So the next time some short round guy wants to play me in basketball or a big obese guy with a sailor cap wants to arm wrestle me, I think I'll pass.
