Lyrics
After the guns are silent
After your wounds have healed
After those crosses
Have been planted in all those fields
After that long boat ride
All the way across the sea
And after this train carries thee
Chorus;
I will love you After The War
Ill love you for always, forever more
I will love you After The War
Forever for always and more
After your boots dry
And the tobaccos all but gone
Along with all those postcards you've carried
Under your arm
After I remember
All the words I couldn't say
And after this long night fades away
Chorus
I will love you After The War
Ill love you for always, forever more
I will love you After The War
Forever for always and more
After this blackbird
Lifts up from off your chest
And after your soul takes its final rest
My love, I forgive you
You never planned to die
And love, Ill place two pennies over your eyes
Chorus
I will love you After The War
I'll love you for always, forever more
I will love you After The War
Forever for always and more
Credits go to tjvgriffy and AZD222 for the lyrics! Thanks guys!

To all my fallen brothers and sisters, you are missed. you are honoured, you are Remembered. Never will we forget the sacrafices of these few brave, some came home traumatized, some maimed. some blind, deaf, and crippled.....Some just didn't. This song strikes a chord in my heart. For every Canadian Soldier...from The Great War, WWII, Vietnam, Korea, The middle eastern conflicts and all those at home and abroad today. Pray for us, we do it for you..
- A Canadian Soldier

Good luck and God bless! I've just watched Paschendaele, an awesome movie, made after a real, bloody and tragical event with the art touch that definitely makes it a masterpiece!
I really hope that your son will live in a world of peace, with no vain heroes, with no vain ideals and no dying for some mad men's fantasies. God bless humanity!
My aunt says that she doesn't really feel sorry for the soliders because they knew what they were/are getting into. And my dad is her BROTHER and is in the military for crying out loud!

Good luck and I send my thoughts and prayers. My father's working at the Wainwright base currently. I remember how hard it used to be to see him leave when I was a little kid...
Be save, god bless you.
I was able to see the movie without shedding a tear, but when this song started, I totally fell apart. Someone asked me a question, and I couldn't answer for quite a while.

Why does this song alsways drive me to tears!! Damn it!!
Wonderfull song and movie
One of my great great great grandfathers fought on the german side, but was killed :(
Whom ever these two people are who dislike this upload, do yourself a favour and take a trip overseas to france and take a walk through battlefields and see all the Canadian graves. If you are not humbled by the amount of loss that this great country of ours endured, you take to much for granted.
Thanks everyone for the nice comments! If you liked it don't forget to rate and favourite if you want! Thanks!
I just watched the movie, Passchendaele, damn it´s sad. God bless AL soldiers that have fought for freedom, and the they that fight today.
BTW, I have visited the graves in france, from both wars and to visit the graves of relatives that died. From Dieppe to Normandy to the air war. All volunteered to fight, nobody was ever drafted. I myself served MY country for 9 years and have been on 4 differant peacekeeping tours as well as the Balkans in 1991 when again the Eurotrash couldn't get along and started killing each other off again. I learnt my history not through movies but by walking the battlefields of Canadians and the Axis.
werry beautiful song and a great movie, i just love this song
Thank You. I've been wanting to see this w lyrics..... very kind. but as far as Slean/War....I heard a live Last Year's War on Napster when she had just written it....now THAT was achingly beautiful in a different way. I'd love to find it again. :-)

After those crosses
Have been planted in all those fields
After that long boat ride
All the way across the sea

Lyrics Part II
After your boots dry
And the tobaccos all but gone
Along with all those postcards youve carried
Under your arm
After I remember
All the words I couldnt say
And after this long night fades away
Chorus
But if you are looking for fact, then here is something for you. The largest number to volunteer for service for both world wars per capita were the Canadians. Even at the time our country was small in population, there was a higher percentage of people in uniform. So there are not millions of our men in graves, thank god for that, mainly because by 1917 the C.E.F. finally took over there own Corps. For example Vimy Ridge. The Brits and the French tried taking the hill but were slaughtered
There's fighting for the so-called Glory and there is fighting to end conflict. That's what my great grandfather and his 2 brothers did.
Don't forget to rate, subscribe and tell everyone! Thanks :D

@meghanthemonkey it's a simple progression in the beginning of Bb, Eb and F then the chorus is Bb , F and Eb and over again I think
you shall come home safe....

I'll pray for your safe return. My father returned from there and just got back from hati a few months ago.

Good luck and the best wishes
Good luck out there.
Hi! I just saw Sarah live, and it was great. She played a song that I really liked, but I don't know the name of the song. It really rocked, it was a lot heavier than most of her songs...I'm sorry for the poor description, but, does anyone have any idea of which song it might be?
Thanks!
love this song! we sang it with our choir this year. It was an arrangment by Joel Forth, it really is amazing. you should check it out!.
doh... they have to be somewhere... lets find them;...
This is just a GREAT song. The movie was great also. Except I would have preferred a happier ending (war is not that way, though).
you should put on a karaoke version! :D suck a prettty song!
war is bad.
@optimusprime341 good luck out there! my you come home safe.
someone transcribe the lyrics and post them on here please!!!
thanks for posting! do you have the chords or any sheet music for this song ?
The point I was making and the one you are trying to ignore is very simple. Even though you think that the lives of the Canadians that were lost are not as important compared to the losses of other countries reflects only on the uneducated or misguided responses you keep sending, which reminds me of what my Grandfather had to say about the Brit officers during that time.
Two more facts, the Treaty of Versailles was the cause of WWII, and the yanks joined the fight later in 1917.
@TheCharacterActor Mine too !! :)
@saviopowah Same here. I was watching this movie when I found out my bro was going over to Afghanistan.... :'(
i hope not, but if I die in afghanistan, i want this song played on my funeral
Does anyone know where I can get this song? I looked on iTunes but no go
sturmtiger13 spotify maybe?
It should not have any viruses.
@berserker276 Thanks bro
what are the lyrics ??
@FedoraStudios My advice is you fight to put an end to the conflict, NOT to defeat and humiliate your opponent because that is how WWII started. France and Britain have been such BAD winners that they made Germany suffer for the first war and that gave Hitler the advantage. Don't forget that.
@meghanthemonkey No I don't, sorry D:
To protect the people we love? That would be when a hoodlum enters your house at night and you shoot him. I'm sure that there are some pretty bad people in Iraq or Afghanistan, but they are not the ones threatening the 'loved ones'. I think it's sad that these beautiful songs always bring soldiers or patriots to speak of things they don't know about. Any of us would be the same, even if he was German or muslim. They gave up their life, but none for a good reason. That's the lesson of war.
It must be absolutely wonderful to have the infallibility of the confirmed pacifist-- right up to the moment when you hear "Allah ahkbar!"screamed in your ear. As a soldier for 11 years in my youth, I'm well aware how politicians can use fear to whip up war fever, and yes, there are good people everywhere, but you're living in cloud-cuckoo land if you don't think Islam is a terrible thing to allow into the West.
No unfortunately the Bosnians were not punished for what was started, and yes that place is a shit hole. Been there, done that, glad to leave it behind. As far as the johny come lately Americans, they had to much to involvement in the Armistice in the first place, but England wanted revenge so bad they had unknowingly planted the seeds for more conflict. And in years to come we would be engulfed in another world conflict which we didn't start, but we were a major contributer again, from the start
Oh actually, there is one more fact. We had to come to Europe 3 times in one century to keep the peace, WWI, WWII, and the Balkans.
Your welcome.
Slaughtered by the tens of thousands, all because of stupidity and typical British ignorance. When the job fell on the backs of the Canadians, they studied the hill, let every man know what his job was and the next man to him. We used the creeping barage as the men advanced up the hill in stages. We used flanking manouvers rather than just charge head first into a machinegun nest, and the list goes on...But from your first statement a few postings back, it's to bad Europe suffered, or anyone
thanks for posting! do you have the chords or any sheet music for this song ??
