It’s a proper odd one isn’t it ! Guessing someone got bored of a couple pets and re homes them ! Surprised there is enough food but I guess things drop in from above. The water quality must be good !
Wow. Look at that weather! Superb. Did some training at Penhale camp back in the day and did a lot of running in full kit on that beach. Anyway, another fascinating video. Becoming a big fan and love both the content and the presentation style.
Back in the 90s the adit gate wasn't locked as we used to go in there as kids with torches and scare ourselves in the dark. We once took the first turning to the right and it started to drop steeply downwards towards water, not safe at all with bare feet and wet mud! Probably apocryphal but we heard the main tunnel linked up with the Smugglers Den Inn and was used for contraband.
@@BenoCam Thanks for the video. I've visited many times and wondered how much is accessible under the water. The goldfish will come to the surface to bathe in the summer sun, but only when there is a lot of pond weed in which they can hide if they feel threatened. On one occasion several years ago I counted 13 fish.
Just seen this one Ben, sad to see it is gated now, used to be a nice little trip and a good place for mineral collection. nice video mate and to the tunnels under the water, there is a big flooded shaft along the adit with a very narrow ledge on the left, no idea how deep it went.
Cheers. Apparently it’s open again at the moment. I think like many places it goes through phases of locked/unlocked and you just need to time it right.
Ben o Cam this is the mine i was on about but when i went last week all the abbott gates were open and when i walked inside i managed to get about 500 meters in it got a bit deep for me to continue but im a more than shore that these go even further up into the old workings. and the tunnels that branch of to the left that you cant see from ground view but you can on the old mine maps the entrance to one of the tunnels is hidden in a pit about 7 feet deep covered over with tall grass to the right of the mine shaft. will send you some footage when i go back. much apreciated ben.
Someone must have let some loose. Either that or a toilet connected to the workings and the poor pair got flushed 🤣 but there’s no evidence of that so more likely they got released in the outside pool
@@BenoCam Makes you wonder what it is they feed on. You know where you should go next.. you should get a couple of you together and have a weekend away, and visit the Dragon's Eye Mine. Would love to see your take on it.
@@LindaTCornwall I have seen a few videos on that ! Would love to take a look, there’s a couple up that way I would like to go and do when I get a chance. I was told that the landowner of that mine has now tried sealing it up as so many people were visiting it ! 😮
I think someone has released them into the pool outside, but in any normal pond or lake the other wildlife would take them out very quickly due to them not being able to blend in. This place is different though. It’s right next to a high cliff and right next to the sea. I can imagine a heron or similar would ever find it, and if it did they have the safety of the mine they can hide in while there is a threat about. Just a theory but you don’t often see goldfish survive long in the wild.
Goldfish and a frog, so it must be fresh water in there rather than sea water. Goldfish are pretty hearty fish. They are a small member of the carp family.
I was told it was full of arsenic and polluted ! Although it was disappointing it wasn’t clear it was clear enough to go for a swim and not get too lost 🙂
I was glad to see you use the line to find your way back out, even if you ended up not needing it. It reminded me of hearing UFC fighter Donald 'Cowboy' Ceronne talk about a time he though he was going to die during a cave dive. (not family friendly) th-cam.com/video/or92IMcLoIc/w-d-xo.html
@@BenoCam yeah I got that ,I thought you said there was two in the flooded pit. Mine explorer myself until a few years ago, used to see the life lines going down shafts a lot , I'm impressed you often have mine plans.
this one looks sick
Haha I forgot all about that one. Wasn’t expecting the fish, total head spin.
Great video! I always struggle to identify anything in underwater diving videos, your commentary’s great!
The Goldfish paradox. Surely one of the big questions of our time? I guess we’ll never know.
Great vid again though Ben. 👍👍

Used to work top the cliff at Penhale, nearly went through an old covered shaft ! The world went all bouncy

Ha would be nice to see it with the gate open . Sadly now it’s quite well sealed !
I dived that a couple years ago it’s really good
Bit of a mish with the kit but funny to see the fish . You done many others ? Ben
Nice little explore, never seen goldfish in the wild.
It was very strange, never seen them on the surface like you normally would in a pond etc . Wasn’t expecting that at all !

Brilliant... wonder how the gold fish pair that started the colony off got there lol...

Needed to lay a line from the pick up 😂
😂😂
is the goldfish an invasive species in your area?

thats how the evolution of dark low light cave species begin

Didn't you say there was two shafts down there?
The mine plan shows several, but you can’t get to them ! The one in the flooded pit is backfilled
