Just imagine the germans got through tese defenses and then stuk on the dike facing simular defenses at the other end . BTW the afsluit dijk was not the only place the germans got stopped they got bogged down in rotterdam they lost most of their airborn troops ,junior pilots and instructors that where flying the JU 52 transport aircraft . On 14th of may 1940 the core army was still intact rotterdam was a deathtrap for the german paratroopers and airborn asault troops . Onlu the threat of bombing the rest of the large cities resulted in the surrender on may 15th 10 AM .
Of course, there’s also the battle of The Hague too, where the Germans failed and suffered 80% casualties at a minimum. But those battles involved paratroopers, and at The Hague they were cut off from reinforcements. Afsluitdijk was where the Germans failed because of the defenses and defenders. I also wanna bring up lesser known actions, like what I did for the Saar Offensive.
@@the_lazy_historian Actualy there was also the battle in Zeeland where the last remaining troops where still fighting till the 17th . There are so many forgotten battles that desrved to be rememberd but they are hard to find as there is little to no information , just names places and first hand acounts . Like the fishing boats that dragged their nets during the artic convoys to pick up survivors of torpedo hit ships . Merchant vessels ducking it out with comerce raiders . there are so many to cover . you will have enough material for the next 50 years.
@@marcusfranconium3392 Well the battle of Zeeland was also included a lot of French and was a defeat. The battles at The Hague and The Afsluitdijk were total Dutch victories with only Dutch forces. I might later do a video on the Princess Irene brigade.
