I've always loved Frost as a character but, you're right. Her story was always garbage, 20 years later and all that's changed is her becoming a cyborg like Cyrax and Sektor.
What makes me laugh is her ending. She ALWAYS gets frozen lol.

I actually liked Frost when she first came out in Deadly Alliance. I liked her design and story, but I was hoping for a bit of redemption. Instead we get evil robot Frost.

I actually liked the way Frost lost to SZ. Imo, it shows you can have all the power handed to you on a silver platter, but without the dedication to honing your craft, ultimately you will lose to someone who's more skilled or as Subby put it: *"Such wasted potential"*. As for her character in story, I will quote another: *"You think you deserve everything just because you've suffered, but suffering isn't enough. You can't just be strong, you have to be smart. You can't just be deserving, you have to be worthy. But the only thing you have ever been, IS A BLOODY MIGRAINE!"*

Frost is full of missed potential. I would’ve written her like this in the new timeline:
She is a descendant of the Lin kuei and an orphan, her parents dying in a mysterious way. Kuai Liang adopts her into the group after the cage match and teaches her about her past, giving her both pride & arrogance, steeming from a fear of not wanting to be left alone or betrayed. When Subzero trues to create peace with Scorpion, she sees this as a betrayal due to her clan’s histories and attacks, but gets frozen instead. She’d then quit the Lin kuei, vowing to bring real honor to the ‘weak impostors’.
This is where Kronika comes & upgrades her; however, after a few fights & learning what Secktor did to the clan in many timelines, she feels conflicted & scared. Ultimately she joins Devorah to kill Scorpion but as she’s about to give the third stab, Frost stops her but gets bugs in her systems who deactivate her movement. Past Scorpion saves her and, at hearing Present Scorpion’s final words, she apologizes before he dies. Returning with past Scorpion, her injured state helps the others believe their story & intentions(Raiden still doesn’t fights them). Later when Kronika returns she takes the part of Frost’s cybernetics that controls the cyber lin kuei, leaving her nearly dead. The special forces bring her to get repaired, as Subzero looks on in worry.

To be completely honest when it comes to frost, I never liked her and always thought she was a wasted spot on any mortal Kombat roster for any of the games they put out. Like who wants to listen to someone act like an 8-year-old spoiled child who had everything handed to them and whining and complaining the entire time they're on screen?
I'd seriously wished they picked Reptile, Ermac, Tremor, and Triborg or even a forgotten character like Motaro, Havik, Nitara, Khameleon, Blaze, and Onaga over her. Hell, even Meat and Fera-Tor are much better characters than Frost.

All of this is true, yet despite it all, I'm still a Frost fan.
Not because I genuinely like her game characterization, or even as an ironic thing. But because there's so much potential in her character that was just wasted.
If the games focused more on the insecurities and the doubts that could've pushed her to make such rash decisions, I think she could've gone down as a genuinely good character with interesting pathos.
I fully agree. I would love to see her go to the lowest possible point, making terrible moral choices, constantly failing at everything and generally being her most pathetic self until something forces her to change her outlook on life. And then begins the slow and painful process of redemption and correcting past mistakes, by the end of which she is still far from being completely healed, but whole enough to function
If they had the balls they could kill Subzero and make her the next gen, she'd have to grow as a character, but its not hard to imagine, Scorpion and Sub are friends now, it can be done

To my knowledge, the reason why she's so loved is because of one giant reason:

I'm just going to say it: Frost is MK11's Damien Wayne. She's jealous, obnoxious, disrespectful, egotistical, and thinks her skills alone or the fact that she kills her opponents make her superior.
Also like Damian, I enjoy her playstyle, despite not having a lot of originality. It's literally the only thing I like about her.
If they *ever* decide to bring her back, they have to actually try this time! Make her cunning, manipulative, a strategist. Give her a rivalry with Takeda for all I care; just make her more than a hot-headed brat!!

Interestingly, I knew that Frost will become cyborg in MK11 the very moment she showed up in MKX. However, I thought that new cyber initiative and her cyberisation would be Dark Raiden's idea which would lead to conflict between him and Sub Zero instead of there being stupid bald lady who told her to do that... Just because.
I love Frost's design as a cyborg in Mk11. Especially in her intro sequence when her head gets lowered into her body. It makes her actually look like a Cyborg instead of a robot with blood in them like the rest of the cyber lin-kuei.
I always liked Frost design and I always hoped for a bigger story between her and sub. Like having sub save her from keep going down that dark path. It would be like him saving his lost brother. This could've been great development for both sub and frost and they had their chance with MK11 but since NRS writers are hacks we got what we got. At least MK11 Frost design is still nice especially the games version of her human look and I liked her gameplay as well.
Sometimes we need those awful, toxic characters to discover new storylines and abilities that branch into really great characters. You wouldn't root for them in real life, but as a video game character, they are indeed fascinating. Sometimes we need that toxic blue stinger.
It would be even better if she had a reason to be toxic, though.
Maybe re-write it so that her father was an insurrectionist that tried to overthrow Sub Zero as grandmaster. So she joins him years later without him knowing who she is, all so that she can backstab him later and lead the Lin Kuei

My biggest issue with her has always been that she's been a character who sounds like those bratty little 8 year olds who get everything handed to them and then when it doesn't go there way they absolutely freak out. She is the perfect picture of that.

I loved frost a lot. In the very end its sad that she never learned to better herself and didn't take a helping hand. Definitely a tragic character where the master was not at fault but the student. When she dies in the end there's some relief but sadness in a way that there wasn't a way to save her.
I am a Frost fan because she is a wonderland for anyone who’s studied psychology like I have lol.
But I think you have it wrong: her main impetus is not hatred. It’s validation. There were more clues to this in MK11 than in any other MK. She has severe self hatred and lack of self worth. But because one has to be their own source for these things, one will never be satisfied in getting it anywhere else, even from people who care for them like SZ obviously cares for her. Unfortunately for people who care about her like SZ, loving somebody like Frost is like pouring into a torn bucket, the answer is not more water.
Her need for validation and recognition has overgrown her discipline and desire to improve, which is one reason why she went cyber. Also, her self hatred and lack of self worth is such that she is willing to literally throw her own body away (to go cyber) for validation and recognition. While I don’t advocate her matricide, I get the impression that she was an only (and deeply neglected) child. She is one of those types who wears their wounding and lets their wounds become their identity. Pushing people away with demands for others to give her respect and acknowledge that is not owed her, yet clueless as to why she just sabotaged any chances for respect and acknowledgment, and she dooms herself to self fulfilling prophecies over and over. And she is way too deep in her own head living in her past traumas to have any awareness of others or even herself for how she comes across. Her disguise is hubris, except everyone can see through that and so they don’t regard her the way she craves, which would be doomed anyway because she doesn’t even regard herself well. So people get put off by her hubris. Which, a key clue in MK11, she refers to as DISMISSAL. Which was her main goal to avenge, according to her MK11 ending. Another huge clue: look at who is waiting in line to humbly beg for redemption/a chance for a do-over in Kotal Kahn’s ending when he gets the time powers. She just wants to be loved, but her unhealed wounds keeps self sabotaging, which creates more wounds, etc. And I get the impression that those who are Frost fans can also intuit these things about her themselves, consciously or unconsciously.
P.S. and no, her look in MK11 is god awful. It’s a nice suit, but her face looks like bratty boy King Joffrey from GoT
I enjoy thoroughly this different takes, I do believe that audiences have to mature with this different types and kind of characters not just outright sympathetic for current viewers but having a greater understanding and view of personalities

Feels and acts superior to anyone else, thinks that she needs no training in order to best the most experienced fighters, and expects everyone to bow down to her, but unlike Rey or Marvell's Captain Marvell she receives the consequences of such behavior

What's sad is Frost is a pretty cool concept character and has a badass design. It's just NRS can't write good characters for shit. I'd fully encourage MK fans to write their own origins for Frost and see what sticks in the community.

Frost is literally the eternal side chick in Mortal Kombat 11. All her intros are literally just “notice me” this and “notice me” that and “I deserve all the attention and glory.” Writers need to understand that characters need more than 1 facet to their identity in order to be loved.

Oh and a little FYI reboots and remixes never help! Just take a look at what Hollywood and the TV networks are doing, they're greenlit!
what's sad to me is that if there were any other mildly interesting female lin kuei members then we'll never get to see them because we're stuck with frost. and while i do like frost from a design standpoint. she amounts to nothing interesting about her being a female cryomancer and a spoiled brat. they could have changed this or at least made her a redeemable villain in the reebooted timeline but the only good thing they did with her is give her some bling on he design and left 0 charm on her character. if they bring back nitara in MK 12 they better not show this level of disrespectful care that they put onto Frost.
The fact that Frost got onto the mk11 roster instead of characters like Kung Jin or Takeda made me very upset. I don't think I've ever actually played with Frost. I went to the towers and let the computer play her for me because I just didn't care enough to actually use her.

In my mind, the only rationale I can come up with for Sub-Zero to take Frost under his wing in the first place is that he saw her aggression, talent and skill at cryomancy and saw a bit of Bi-Han in her. The main difference is that Bi-Han was focused and disciplined. Frost was neither.

I remember when I first saw Frost in DA, I was super excited. I gravitate towards female kombatants and u was ready to see what she had. I appreciated her variations and I liked her first fatality. I think it would be cool to see how she is in Liu Kangs MK1. Her shtick got real repetitive, for sure. But she knocked her first outing out of the park!

the first time I saw her in Deadly Alliance, I thought she was awesome, a Sakura (from street fighter) for Sub-Zero, and then I finished her arcade story, and I saw that she was a traitor and not a gifted and studious student respecting her master. like sakura i was really disappointed not to have my stereotype of a female student like sakura or yuri sakazaki (KOF), and when mortal kombat x came out with all the kombat kid stuff i had hoped he would would reconnect. In a starring role with the other Kombat Kid, unfortunately this was not done.
With all her negative tendencies aside, Frost his really pretty eyes.

Frost didnt steal the Medallion because it would make her powerful. She thought it was just a symbol for grand master and took it from Sub-Zero which is why she wasnt ready for the huge power boost it gave her. Because again she didn't know. Without the years of training that Sub-Zero had she was helpless to her own powers.
What if Frost has a friend who she trusts well enough to question better actions of her plans and loyal to the bitter end
For me Frost feels like a MK MUGEN character, you know, female Noob, etc.
She should’ve been part of the Kombat Kids, instead of notice me senpai, at least to be a representative of the Lin Kuei and she can still be arrogant and antagonistic(especially to Takeda but more so to Cassie and Jacqui) but eventually warms up to the group.
She has that ambition to be Grandmaster, especially with Sun-Zero basically spoiling her given their Cryomancer heritage and eventually something happens between MKX and MK11 where Kronika can easily manipulate her way into her head using the dark side of her ambition basically augmenting her and giving her the strength she needs to take the title herself

Frost is easily one of the lamest villains in Mortal Kombat thanks to her wasted comeback in Mortal Kombat 11. She had potential to be an interesting villain with a proper new backstory and gameplay. But instead they made her into a spoiled whiny angry teenager who cowards into a corner to shoot projectiles. Because of how badly they screwed her up, it is very unlikely she'll ever return in a future game ever again.

I don't really think there was a whole lot of potential for somebody who just screams and whines and cries and acts like the pure picture of entitlement. She disagrees with Sub-Zero and his course of action so she's immediately going to usurp him and cause internal strife and then she's going to dismember her body to be a cyborg and b**** and complain about it and throw a tantrum. Yeah definitely potential wasted lmao.

I loved using Frost in MKDA. She was my favorite character in that game.
Name 2 plot points in the Mortal Kombat that aren't fueled by stupidity or poor problem solving skills.
What I would have done is the have her be a lost descendant from sub-zero's clan. Some lin Kuei somewhere left the clan and settled down generations ago and later frost is born outside the lin Kuei. She eventually enters an MMA tournament and fights Cassie but loses forming a rivalry with her. She then gets discovered by sub-zero and he sees she has untapped potential so he offers to train her all the while testing to see if she is right as a potential successor to look after the lin kuei should anything happen to him. Maybe have that be a conflict Her not wanting anything to do with the Lin Kuei as a whole. Idk this is just off the top of my head.
