Lovely video, as a grandmother creating wealth entails establishing positive routines, such as consistently setting aside funds at regular intervals for sound investments. Financial management is a vital subject that many avoid, often leading to future regrets.

I love this video Shan. I bought your budget tracker from Etsy a few years ago and this is my reminder to use it for 2024. Honestly I would love a budget check in video every month Shan. Thanks for being so transparent and good on you for your wise planning and goal setting. Wish you guys all the best for 2024.

I don’t normally comment but have to say how much I enjoy your videos and your financial insights are so inspiring. Thank you for your transparency. It’s really exciting to see the potential income of TH-cam and Instagram with a following of your size. I would love to see more sit down videos with practical life advice and insights into running your own business. Child costs; tax relief, child care. Making the most of Mat leave, SMP, KIT days, carried over AL. Pensions, ISAs. All the sh*t you don’t get taught and are expected to just know 😂 Love supporting your channel and letting the ads play in full Happy new year!
As a working mum of two, this is one of the best TH-cam videos I have ever seen!! I have a 4 year old who also gets the 30 hours funding but we pay around £100 each a month for her but also have an 18 month old who isn’t quite eligible for the new 15 hours funding yet…So her nursery bill is crazy amounts until sept/ 2025 I love how you say you don’t want fancy things, you just want to enjoy days out with your kids without worrying about money and be sensible at the same time with paying your mortgage. Thank you so much for this video 💗 I will be downloading your spreadsheet and the hyperjar app immediately. Xx
Shan thank you so much for being transparent and realistic - I'm sticking to very similar budget outgoings, nothing crazy, and it's just crazy how much 'normal' life costs these days (normal meaning not being stressed about bills and food shoppings). Fingers crossed for you this year!
It’s mad isn’t it! With everything creeping up, I know I’m one of the lucky ones to still be able to afford luxuries like holidays etc, but for a lot of my friends, this isn’t the case at all. I just hope this helps someone, it whatever small way have a plan in place for this year!! ♥️
Really enjoy your content, and completely sympathise with over paying mortgage. I’ve looked to do the same for a couple of years. After a few months this of overpaying I didnt understand why my monthly interest didn’t come down, it was because they only recalculated when they received a single overpayment of £1000 or more. It’s worth checking your loan terms and managing your payments accordingly
Here she is😍! Feel like you really shine in these financial videos. Absolutely loved this! Would love to see more! So empowering seeing a female/ mama smashing her financial goals and absolutely shining in this area👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Love HyperJar so much and I’ve been able to link my Apple Pay to it so birthdays and car etc comes straight out of. A video on navigating 30 free hours for childcare would be so helpful, we’re going to be doing it come March and already get the 20% tax free childcare but my mind is 🤯 by also sorting this! Happy new year to you and your family Shan 🎉❤ thank you for the videos and inspiration xx
Really enjoyed this video, don’t usually comment on YT videos but I feel inspired to get my act together! Just about to restart work after a year on maternity ( finances were chaotic as I didn’t plan!) and this has made me want to get my finances in order. Won’t have the same to play with but knowing what you’ve got will definitely help ease the stress of surprises or things I forgot about. Thanks Shan 😅
Plum is also great for different pots and pockets, and different to a lot of other apps like this you actually earn interest on all of your pots, for snyone looking to do this! 😊
👏 thanks so much for this. How I wish I was this money savvy now , never mind when I was 25! Really, really helpful and inspiring. Your family have the best future ahead with such a sensible yet ambitious mama! Happy New Year to you all.
Love watching these. Be careful on budgeting on George’s childcare after jan we thought we were saving loads but still pay £350’for three days a week in nursery. Ours is a cheaper one too. We thought ours would be £140 per month (that’s 3x per week 9-3!) it’s still £350 as you have to pay for meals! I can’t wait till he starts school and we get that money back xx
So glad youre still doing finance videos as i feel like you got some negative feedback before (just because you earned more rhan a lot of others). But know they are soooo helpful

Love Love Love this video Shan :) I bought your budget tracker 2 years ago and I love it! Thank you for sharing your long term financial goals, I definitely want to start over paying my mortgage this would be amazing. You have definitely inspired me to put this into action. Also with regards to investing in a property would this be for your pension or to benefit your children? :) I hope you have a fabulous new year and I look forward to seeing how you financial goals unravel :) xxx
Hey! Thank you so much 🥹 I’m so glad you’re still loving the tracker, you can obvs just change the header to say 2024 and continue using that one 🥰 Overpaying our mortgage is my main priority for sure, my uncle payed off his mortgage 5 years ago and the freedom he has now is unmatched!! Such a huge weight off your shoulders if you can achieve it! Fingers crossed anyway haha! And the property investment is a bit of both I guess, obviously one day, I’d like to use some of the money towards paying off mortgage/spending money in retirement and then maybe gift to the kids as an investment property when they’re older maybe! Xxx
Our flat ‘investment property’ brings in approx £600 profit a month which is good and that on the lower rent we ask for. It was our first place which we just didn’t sell. I think we’ll do the same once we’ve finished renovating our house. Although stamp duty is a b**ch. We’ve put some savings into a fixed bond which will return £2,500 profit and then we’ll pay a chunk of the house mortgage off. It’s shocking how much it saves in interest alone. Have you look at the fixed bonds recently they’re really good! I need to do this and write everything down. I’ve got hyper jar which I love but I’ve been meaning to sit down for years and do it all properly like this. Will be downloading your Etsy product 🙏🏼
Hapoy new year to you and your beautiful family. Overpayment on morgage is a great idea if gou have money to do it. Just payed off our mortgage in December. Bought a house in 2010 on 25 years morgage. It showes that its really wort it. ❤
Love this video! I have a super small budget as I'm also on maternity at the moment but this is still so motivating for me.. I'm going to make a spreadsheet later and actually work out my budgets. Thank you!
That’s brilliant!! It might help you to watch some of my older budgeting videos from back in 2020/2021, when I went on my first maternity leave.. I didn’t have anywhere near as much £ then and we still did it thankfully! It requires planning but it’s deffo doable!! ♥️
Just had to say your excitement about the childcare and when you said ‘mate if you’d told me 2 years ago’ made me cackle. Fellow mum also buzzing for the free hours over here 😂😂😂 xxx

Hi, is that after tax? Going on Mat leave in June this year and having a nightmare trying to work out exactly how much I will be earning after tax/NI, thanks xx
Out of curiosity? How does the stat mat pay work with still getting income from content creation? I'm sure I saw another youtuber who said she wasn't entitled to maternity pay as she had income from her creator business?
Excellent video. Do you not have a phone bill or any TV subscriptions or streaming costs? your internet is also really cheap. A large part of my budget is Sky TV/Internet/Mobile so would like to know how to get that price down.
Question, feel free to not Answer, but how come you spilt bills 50/50, do you both make the same amount? Do you put your income into one account and everything comes out of that? Or do you have individual accounts too?
with the app with the money pots, is your actual money in that app or is it just a visual representation of where the money is divided then you’ve just got a chunk in savings??x
I love these budgeting videos you put out & they really motivate me! Stat pay really confuses me. I know its 172.48 a week but no matter how much I google, I cant find out if that's after tax/NI?! If it's before then the monthly payment would be more 300-400 a month 😭 I go onto stat in March
Hi, from when I went onto sat mat a couple years ago I didn't get taxed as it's such a small amount. Probably would depends too on your wage the other part of the year too
@@emilyw2790 thank you that's really helpful. I'll be starting from the end of March so will be heading into a new tax year so fingers crossed I won't get taxed!
Thanks for sharing! I LOVE budgetting videos. Would love to see monthly ones from you. Do you contribute to a private pension when you are on maternity leave to make up for the lost contributions through a salary?
Love this video , just wondering if u forgot to add childcare for halle after September? I will be in a similar situation come September and was just curious 😊 x
Shan, only a question - are you planning to do any KIT (keeping in touch) days? Some companies pay for KIT day as full day regardless the hours you work, I am not sure how this is in civil service. I've curtailed my maternity leave and went on shared parental leave, as SPL offers more KIT days for both parents than staying on maternity leave only. It's just a question as for some parents it may be beneficial to plan for KIT days when SMP finishes.
You’ve really got your ish together for a 25 year old! 😂 👏🏽 Btw since you split all joint costs 50/50 with your husband do you earn roughly the same amount?
That's a good question. Me and my partner calculate our joint net income and then work out what my proportion is and what his proportion is and pay joint expenses based on those proportions. It works out about 35/65 as my partner earns more. I'd struggle to be happy to pay 50/50 if there was a significant difference in income but each to their own.
@@racheldixon387 exactly, that’s what I used to do with my ex. If one of you earns more but is still paying the same that would leave them lots more spare cash which wouldn’t seem fair to me if you’re in a committed relationship/marriage. But as you say, each to their own!
I'm so glad you mentioned this. Because this is all I was thinking throughout. And it's honestly coming from love and protection for her, so I hope Shan doesn't take offense. The amount they are putting in the pot should mirror the same ratio according to how much they each make relative to each other. Let's not forget the extra invisible labour mother's put into family life (whether we are working or not)
@@mooncherie1 yep absolutely. It generally wouldn’t make sense to me for one person who is in a committed relationship with kids to have more extra money than the other anyway since I’d expect they’d want to spend any extra cash on the same things like holidays, the house, family days out etc.
As someone who normally loves your videos, I feel really sad watching this. I’m ashamed to admit a huge part is jealously. Shan when we’ve taken our outgoings (I work in the NHS & my husband works in a factory and we have a 1yr old) we have £125 left for the month (not including if we want to eat out or treat ourselves or buy lunch out at work). So budgeting for me is not possible, I have NOTHING left to save! Nothing! I’m glad there are family’s like you who have a nice home, brand new kitchen, savings for this that and the other. But sadly I don’t :(
Sorry to hear this, have you thought about exploring new ways of bringing in extra income? I know it’s not always as easy but this maybe a great way to help you financially. I wish you all the best and hope 2024 is a wonderful year for you🤗
@@niknak3157 tried to think of things, I’m no good with social media. Although nowadays it’s much harder to start a channel/account. I work and so does my husband so it’s not like we are wasters. It’s such a shit predicament to be in and I feel so crap about going into the new year like this. I’d love to be able to just go for a week away somewhere in spring time but no chance x
This breaks my heart, I’m so sorry this video wasn’t enjoyable for you. I totally get it though, without TH-cam income ect, this budget would look very different for me too. Life is expensive and wages for a lot of us aren’t cutting it. It’s not fair, but it’s definitely the case for a lot of people right now. But what I would say, is no matter how much money you have, budgeting really can help! Believe me, when I was on £20k a year and just bought our first house… we were scrimping by😅 But even if you can manage to put £10 or £20 a month into a pot towards next Xmas… that’s £120 or £240 that you wouldn’t have to spend in December 2024! I know sometimes that’s easier said than done, but it’s something that I’ve tried to do ♥️
She literally explained this in the video, did you not watch it all the way through? If both parents are working fulll time (part time threshold is fine too) and earn less than 100k respectively, then they are entitled to 30 hours free childcare, tax free too. So her childcare bills will be going down for this reason.. as she’ll be going back to work. You’re welcome x
curious to know, if your business account is earning over £100k pa but you do not choose to pay yourself this wage, you will still be entitled to the tax free childcare?
Do you earn similar to your partner? I am not familiar with having separate money, my husband earns 12x what I earn but we just have a joint account for all our money.
My day job is a civil servant, and before Halle was born I worked 4 days a week. Honestly, no idea how I’ll be able to do it all once I do go back… but that’s my aim for January… figure out a manageable plan!! Childcare/work/finances/youtube etc 🫠

May totally be none of my business, you and ash have a baby. Your income has been cut by maternity leave and then that ending. I understand everything being 50/50 but your maternity leave should also be accommodated for by Ash.
Also if you are working reduced hours, 4 days or less in September. And ash is working full time, you should be “paid” or financially compensated by paying less bills for the time you spend with the kids.

I know sometimes that’s easier said than done, but it’s something that I’ve tried to do ♥️
@@HomeWithShanhappy new year sweetie
What makes me sad is that it’s people who work in the NHS who should earn the most money x
£56 for childcare is amazing , we pay £86 and its lokely to go up 😮
Love this video! Do I need to have excel downloaded on my laptop to be able to use the spreadsheet? Or is it usable without? 💛
Love these type of videos! Won’t your childcare bills go up once you go back to work though? X
Do you not have a pet insurance expense? Ours has gone up so much recently 😒 x
How do you work out how many years your mortgage would reduce by when overpaying X amount a month?
HJ is free but now they are charging for you to send/receive money to and from a bank account after 4 free transactions
curious to know, if your business account is earning over £100k pa but you do not choose to pay yourself this wage, you will still be entitled to the tax free childcare?
Our mortgage rate was 1.29 now it's the same as yours 🙈😩 so much more!!
I feel you 😅🥲 I’m glad we managed to get 4.29% as I know people on 6% but god I miss my 2% mortgage 🤣😭
Id love to know how you make that income from youtube and instagram? I dont know how its possible but id love to have side income!!
Do you earn similar to your partner? I am not familiar with having separate money, my husband earns 12x what I earn but we just have a joint account for all our money.
Nice
💗💗💗
What job do you do hun? Xxx
Hey! I’m a civil servant!
Hi! Thanks for the great video. Do you not have a mobile phone contract? Thanks
Am get my own house years time would if you could help me
What is your day job when you do it? ❤
My day job is a civil servant, and before Halle was born I worked 4 days a week. Honestly, no idea how I’ll be able to do it all once I do go back… but that’s my aim for January… figure out a manageable plan!! Childcare/work/finances/youtube etc 🫠
Tax his land,
Tax his bed,
Tax the table
At which he's fed.
Tax his work,
Tax his pay,
He works for peanuts
Anyway!
Tax his cow,
Tax his goat,
Tax his pants,
Tax his coat.
Tax his tobacco,
Tax his drink,
Tax him if he
Tries to think.
Tax his car,
Tax his gas,
Find other ways
To tax his ass.
Tax all he has
Then let him know
That you won't be done
Till he has no dough.
When he screams and hollers;
Then tax him some more,
Tax him till
He's good and sore.
Then tax his coffin,
Tax his grave,
Tax the sod in
Which he's laid.
When he's gone,
Do not relax,
It's time to apply
The inheritance tax.

STILL THINK THIS IS FUNNY?
Not one of these taxes existed 100 years ago, & our nation was one of the most prosperous in the world... We had absolutely no national debt, had a large middle class,a huge manufacturing base, and Mum stayed home to raise the kids.
What in the Hell happened? Could it be the lying parasitic politicians wasting our money?
Oh, and don't forget the relatively new bank charges....
And we all know what we think of Bankers.
I hope this goes around the UK at least 1,000,000,000 times!!!
YOU can help it get there!
How much are you budgeting for vaping shan???
May totally be none of my business, you and ash have a baby. Your income has been cut by maternity leave and then that ending. I understand everything being 50/50 but your maternity leave should also be accommodated for by Ash.
Also if you are working reduced hours, 4 days or less in September. And ash is working full time, you should be “paid” or financially compensated by paying less bills for the time you spend with the kids.
Is that swimming lessons? I thought swimming lessons were from age 4 x
You can take very young babies to swim classes/lessons
I’m nearly the same age and you seem so much more mature than me. I know everyone is different and everyone is in different stages in life but I would love to be as mature as you and have my life more together. How did you become so mature if you don’t mind me asking? It seems to come very natural for you which is amazing. Love your channel Shan 🤍
