Just snagged one of these off of eBay for $17 to replace a Wraith Stealth cooler on a 5700G.
    Massive temperature differences.
Great little budget cooler to replace that POS stock cooler AMD shipped with some of the 65W TDP AM4 CPUs.
Thanks, Jay! Wouldn't have bought it without this video. Certainly saved me $30.

I looked at this and there were two one-star reviews complaining about this cooler. One complained that "the screws are tooo big and will not fit in the bracket correctly". The second one was complaining that the unit was "Fan to big for my case low quality"
This makes me wonder if these one-star reviewers actually read the information on this cooler.
    Nice review Jay.

Amazon needs to have a way of weeding out the reviews from people complaining about shipping time, damage from the shipping company, whether their cat peed on it, etc. You can leave seller reviews in a separate area already, I'm here to read about the product.

AMAZON intentionally doesn't fix their platform. If you start doing research on this topic you find out it's to their financial benefit. For example, if people buy the wrong product you'll still pay Amazon then turn around and buy the correct one. Plus, Amazon has a Monopolgy and no incentive to do ANYTHING that doesn't help their bottom line.

I'd imagine a lot of people buying a cheap, off-brand CPU cooler would likely be building their own PC for the first or second time. They probably had other compatibility issues causing them problems rather than just "the screws". A lot of people don't read the information booklets on products either...It's too bad that decent, cheap stuff slips by because of this.

You can also get the ID-Cooling SE-214-XT or the Thermalright Assassin X R SE, for some slightly more well-known options at the same price, but honestly this one seems pretty great, and I like the thought of discovering new brands worth the money to break into the market and get some proper recognition. So, good on you for trying a mostly unheard-of option. It really helps shake up the market and raise competition, I believe. Like, I truly believe the Vetroo V5 video sent shockwaves and either helped bring prices down, or at least raised interest in solid really good coolers for cheap. So, thank you for your service in that regard!!! Best to you and the team.

The Thermalright Assassin X 120 is only $17.49 which is a little more than this one in the US. Cooling is not exactly the best either as it only have 4 heat pipes and no rgb fan. Yo Jay! At 9:27 You show the fan hits right here. First thing I thought of was snip off the unused screw mount fin on the bottom for MB clearance. Then you would fully cover the radiator. Then at 15:50 Your Flir picture shows the fan not being move down all the way so the thereby leaving an "uncovered" hot spot. Then you say that that the bottom of the cooler is the hardest working part of the radiator fins. I would also like to have seen dual fans, and maybe a 3D printed shroud. Bet it would bring down the temps way more at full load. Keep on truckin'....

VAT which is included in advertised price, America don't do that as their VAT system is `sales tax` which varies from state to state and not included in the advertised price. Why often have people in some states order/buy in adjacent states as sales tax lower.

    • @Grimmwoldds
      @Grimmwoldds 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

@@PaulGrayUK Kind of. It's actually quite logical.
VAT is a tax on adding value. Of course you include it in the price, this is so you can pass the tax on, and the end user pays for product + value added tax at each step.
Sales tax is the state or municipality taxing the sale to an end-user. They only care if the item is capable of making a taxable transaction(notably non-ready to eat food products aren't taxable) and the amount of the transaction.
TL;DR: VAT taxes the item itself. Sales tax taxes the sale.

I was impressed with Thermalright's $17 cooler and the paste I got with it (TF4), which saw an overclocked 2600 running at 50.8C under prolonged stress testing with CPU power draw at 115W. I think when the GPU (RX6600) was also running a stress test and pulling like 170W with the power limit set to 120%, the CPU only ran a couple of degrees warmer. Of course, fan speeds were higher all around but noise level wasn't excessive GPU temps were nice; I put some HT-N1 on that recently.
I also have been impressed with Thermalright's 3 for $15 ARGB fans. They even have white ones, for just a dollar or two more or you can get non-RGB black ones for a couple bucks less. I compared to a Lian Li set that sells for like $70 for 3 and the cheap fans had better performance specs. Not by much but they were technically quieter and moved more air at the same speed. They even have FDBs. It has me wondering why I would pay $15 for one Noctua Redux fan because those aren't significantly better performing and I can get temps I like with the cheap fans. I don't expect the cheap fans to last as long but I'm sure they'll at least last a few years.

It’s a dual tower cooler with nice ARGB, and despite it not having exposed copper heat pipes (which realistically you could just expose if you really wanted to) it keeps my 7800x3d ice cold. Like 45-50 idle and 80 maximum while using the furmark cpu burner. Never gets hot whilst video editing either. It’s probably not Ample for heavy fork loads, but highest temps I see while gaming is 70.

Im always prefer air coolers with heatpipes touching CPU IHS ❤, you can use 1 tower air cooler and it performs the same as 2 tower cooler because a lot of 2 tower cooler have soldered plate to heatpipes but 1 tower coolers heatpipes are without plate 😊

There's a few thermalright options around the same price that have been rocking the air cooler market for the past year or so and havent moved in price despite reviews such as steve's from GN
Thermalright assassin spirit 120 is $16.99, assassin X120SE is $17.59, assassin spirit 120 v2 (dual fan) is $20, and there's multiple "peerless assassin" and variant (dual tower, dual fan) around $30-35 that perform on par with the NH-D15 if not better.

I have a cute little Antec tower cooler for my i7-2600. I took it off and tried to jerry-rig the cooler to go on an AMD board. Failed, but i barely touched the other chip with the existing paste, so I just squashed it right back on the 2600. Max temp is still only 61 when compiling dolphin-emu :)
Paste isn’t all that finicky as long as you don’t do anything too stupid with it. Just keep with one paste for everything and you don’t have to really worry.

As some have said, this does remind me of the Hyper 212 Evo. I still have mine for my AM3 board and FX-8150 (eventually I'll use that as a NAS box with my older case, but that's a ways off). I added a second fan to the 212 as that can help with airflow. If I grabbed this cooler you're looking at, I'd still add a second fan.

In my country's buying hub (our version of Amazon let's say) I see only 2 publications for "darkrock Px4" and I do believe they are Bequiet! These 2 range from say 70 dollars to 140 (why so much difference, only sellers know).
However, if you look up "coolers" there is a TON of others, different models of the same brand even. There's a brand called "ID Cool" I think. Looking up some information, apparently is a Chinese cheap brand that doesn't feel cheap and gets the job done decently enough to punch a bit above their weight. And in price they're around 20 to 40 dollars let's say, which is a massive difference for a case like mine looking to upgrade the R5 2600s stock cooler for example.
My question is: Is it possible for you to do a quick 10 mins follow up video and try to get different models of "cheap/not as known" brands of coolers like this one on this video and see if they're different? Or to see if they're like a lot of other cheap products where the manufacture part is literally the same, they just change the brand name? And if there is a difference if you could explain why.
I remember you did a video with a cooler that was cheaper than others but looked fantastic, had LED screen with the temps on it and all but when it came to performance vs price ratio it kinda sucked. My specific question is: All of these coolers look... pretty much the same. Fan on 1 side, the copper pipes going inside the big heatsink... design wise they LOOK almost identical, could it be possible that we could buy any of these 20-40 dollar coolers and ok with it? Or some of them might really suck?

Yeah, ID cooling is a king, and only US/Western europe can enjoy these things not at ridiculous markups (even canada or australia isnt that lucky, anything i could find in my area was around price of 360mm AIO which is obviously better).

Last year, I purchased an ID-COOLING SE-214-XT from Amazon Warehouse for something like $12. Similar concept to the no-name you reviewed. It keeps my i5 11400 cool, but has RGB, which naturally adds 150,000% speed boost.. :D I am curious to see if future Intel CPUs are going to continue the trend of super high wattages to keep performance competitive, or if process improvements will return CPUs power draw to something less than a household appliance. I am not a fan of AIOs due to potential mechanical failure and spending $75 (or up) vs $17-20.

I actually picked this thing up a couple weeks ago, partly to see how well it would do, and partly to get rid of my Corsair AIO. ...though I was betting that the person with the 60C max temp was probably running a Ryzen 1400 or similar like I am, I am surprised to see that it did this well. I picked it up form $14.99. That said, I'll have to watch and see how the price does now that this video is up.
