None of the characters in Castlevania would stand a chance against Julius, to be honest. The only reason Soma could beat him, in Aria of Sorrow, is because Julius was holding back.
The current criteria is getting Perfect/Awesome at least 3 times (due to a bug he's not limited to Nightmare though). I may bump up that number once I properly make Somacula into a challenging boss.

Simon Belmont was not a profound Magic user, his strength was more on the physical side, being the only Belmont that defeated Dracula by sheer physical strength. Then a second time as Simon was inflicted with a mortal curse that would make him weak till he would die, and still he defeated Dracula again. Then comes his grandson, Juste Belmont. Juste not only mastered physical prowess but also was a scholar of magic, and he was the one that created the "Item Crash" technique (called something else that I can't remember) on top of spells typical of the Belnades blood. Then comes Richter, stronger than his grandfather Juste, taking many traits and techniques of his Grandfather more naturally and almost at the same age. The finally comes Julius, the last descendant of House Belmont at the end of the 20th century, with more powers than his predecessors and facing Dracula whom also is at his strongest. But this Belmont does not just defeat Dracula, he exterminates Dracula and seals Castlevania (the castle) in an Eclipse, since the castle is actually a living creature of chaos. So in conclusion, yup, Julius would beat Richter easily. Sorry for the book long exposition lol.
It's a Game built off a Fighting Game Engine, set to the highest difficulty by the player. Of course, in a fighting game, if you set the CPU difficulty up to the highest, you get the toughest battles yet. I've played this before, And as long as you have the difficulty on Normal or Easy, it's a lot more manageable. Hard or Nightmare are basically for those with faster reflexes and greater skill. In short, stick to normal if you wanna just enjoy yourself. Otherwise, and I'm not trying to be Offensive here, Git Gud.
