  • Disclaimer: this video is meant purely informational! This is not medical advice! If you are looking for medical advice always contact your own doctor. -
This is a vlog aimed at my life as a medical student in the Netherlands. For 6 years I have been studying medicine, and now I am finally in my last 2 weeks! This has been a long and exciting journey, and I would not change it for the world. I learned a lot from every doctor, and patient a long the way, and I am grateful for the chance I got 6 years ago; which made me able to become a medical doctor.
In this video I explain briefly where I am right now in my rotations, and the road I have been traveling. I also try to sketch what it looks like to study medicine in the Netherlands. It consists out of 6 years. The first 3 beeing the bachelor, where you mostly have lectures and practical courses. The last 3 are your rotations, consisting out of: surgery, internal medicine, gynaecology, pediatrics, neurology, psychiatry, GP, social medicine, and ophthalmology. Furthermore, we could also choose 2 rotations; one of 8 weeks, and one of 10 weeks; I did radiology and plastic surgery. And lastly, we have to do a research internship and write our master thesis. I did it on the subject of "Shared Decision Making", and we have to do our "semi-doctor rotation". This is 18-weeks, and prepares you for the live as a medical doctor.
This week was also special because I gained my 500th subscriber! It has been an amazing journey so far, and I wanted to thank you all for your enthousiasme. Without you guys I could not have done it! I will continue making weekly videos, and hope to grow my channel to 1000, 10,000 and hopefully even more subscribers! (A boy can hope...)
Thank you so much. I hope you enjoy this video, and see you soon!

I'm a second year medical student in Italy and was wondering if you know of any possibilities for other European nationals to transfer to Medicine courses in the Netherlands? (taught in Dutch, not English).

Hey Ron, thank you for watching my video!
I was a medical student at Maastricht university. They offer medschool in english for internationals: the bachelor as well as the master. However, you can also start the master in dutch, but than it is required to learn dutch. I believe they offer a course, with a dutch language exam at the end. Most universities in the netherlands require such an exam.
You can find more information on the website of Maastricht university.

Since I am applying as a non-EU English medium student, will you please let me know the interview process in detail? The website says that the interview process is very hectic and that we need to sit for two-three (written) exam papers as well. Please be kind enough to give me a few interview tips and a few ideas on what the exam paper itself will consist of and how I could prepare for it (past paper resources etc).
Since there are limited seats available for medicine students, especially for English medium, what are the chances that I could learn Dutch and then proceed with the medicine program? Would that be beneficial for me in the long run?

      Hi Ihsan,
You should contact one of the medical schools in the Netherlands and ask them for information. They can help you further.
