The Hebrew letter in the first puzzle isn't "Qof," that's a letter earlier in the Hebrew Alphabet. The letter shown sounds like "roof," but beginning with a "K." This show deserves this level of pedantry.
As someone who is Jewish and went to Hebrew school when I learned the alphabet we spelled that letter " kaf ". Qoph is archaic. It would most likely be Aramaic which is, technically, a parent language of Hebrew.
@meaning1 - She gave the University team a second chance at 8:39, and they actually get it right (their first answer was wrong - those sounds were recorded on satellites, they were not broadcast) so, if anything, the Challengers benefited more from it.
I love the contrast between Victoria sighing over Alex here and her pretty much throwing the test to make an elaborate proposal to Alex Horne in Taskmaster because she's just *that* in love with her husband. Like you can tell this was scripted (I say scripted because I think they were already dating at this point) *before* she married David Mitchell XD
Imagine if a male presenter had been flirting like that with a female student 18 years his junior, making her visibly uncomfortable. Imagine the outrage.
Haaaaa the bit where Vicki is pretending to flirt with Alex is so effing funny! He so doesnt know what is happening! You just know he will be a virgin until he is so rich ans sucsessful he can just buy a wife :P Bless...

If it wasn't for Victoria Coren (and in part, the connecting wall) I would never have ventured beyond iPlayer to watch this show. She's great.
Guttenplan is such a pretty and socially clueless sheep. Amazing captain tho! I can relate to Victoria's crush.
I actually feel so smart if I ever get a question right on this show. Today was not one of those days
Love the banter with the student candidate. Victoria would be the perfect comedian with a crowd command like that...
Because the target audience of this show doesn't need laugh tracks to tell them when to laugh.
Wow, that Guttenplan guy has exceptionally cute face features and shy body language.
He's a dream...
Holy shit, after three episodes, I finally got an answer. Being American helped with Texas.
the host is hilarious
It would have been hilarious if Gutterplan asked Vicki if she was trying to seduce him (ala Mrs. Robinson in The Graduate).
I actually got 2 questions (for a potential total of 4 points). Pathetically proud of myself right now.
Embrace your pride. You've earned it.
Should have just introduced the uni team as Guttenplan and those other two.
alex guttenplan is possibly the most socially awkward person i've ever seen.

You may need to revisit your notes. :) Israelis pronounce ק as /kuf/ or /kof/, and כ as /kaf/
Strictly speaking, Voyagers 1 and 2 were spacecraft, not satellites.
8:17 i was caught off guard when i heard my language hahah serbia doesn't show up in british quizzes a lot does it?
Well to be fair to Victoria, Alex is totally dreamy.
she is brilliant :-)
Strapped to my thigh.
Next to some aces and a 76suited.
Voyager wasn't a satellite, it was a spacecraft. Nil point I'm afraid.
Stephen Saunders and she called it a satellite too. Gah!
Voyager is not a satellite which orbits a planet, it is an exploratory spacecraft.
Yes I saw that too. Very slack for such a programme.
Oh fuck off
Not to mention, Voyager doesn't broadcast this audio, just carries the record.

@594968m I respectfully disagree. I love her style of hosting! :)

+essengeebee Just imagine.
+essengeebee Just imagine.
Don't you know, sexual harassment is perfectly fine for women to do.
What are you even on about?
Dude looks like he's more nervous about the quiz/being filmed/talking to new people as opposed to Victoria jokingly zeroing in on him
I can't believe I actually got an answer right
Did you become a contestant or a presenter?

only connect>university challenge
Just wondering: Do people tend to like Guttenplan?
Where’s part 2?

emmanuel guttenplan!
@594968m It was a joke, because she's pretending to find him attractive
Ends at 14m
@georginarussell Don't explain the joke!
this is sooo awkward lol.
@starryxblue Haha this is so exactly why im watching it!!! Freaky...
The Buddha isn't a reincarnation of Vishnu, he left Hinduism and began his own thing altogether!
The question was not about THE Buddha but the cycle of reincarnation, which includes buddhaS.
No show needs laugh tracks, but this could have done with an audience nevertheless, if only for an occasional applause at a right answer.
why does this show not have an audience? It's clearly scripted with gags that need a laughter track, instead it's just got awkward silences...
pinuppoets that's the point
If you can hear that it is funny cant you do the laughing yourself?
Being really awkward is part of the humour.
I guess you must be American
