i didn't even realize there was a non-illustrated edition of a monster calls. that seems like a bad idea. the illustrations are beautiful and add so much to the overall feel of the story. makes it have more impact and emotion imo.
I didn't do it because I moved, but when my parents adopted my youngest two siblings I got rid of almost 900 books. I kept one shelf full of books and a few kids books for my younger siblings to read. Picking which books to actually keep was the hardest thing, but it did show me that as much as I love books and reading, I'm not a big rereader nor do I tend to pull for physical books as much as I did when I was in school since I have a kindle and a nook now. And books just take up a lot of space, even if I love them so. But now I know somewhere out there someone is reading my much loved copies of the Percy Jackson series and all the fairytale retellings I got from book orders and book fairs in grade school. I hope someone out there is getting all the enjoyment and more from my books that I did.
Yes girl, get rid of those books! I don't know why unhauls are so satisfying, but they really are. Glad you won't have to lug that extra weight around with you when you move.
"Sometimes life feels like a dystopia" wooow that one sentence just made me realise why I no longer really like reading dystopian books novels 😂 I think I'm going to do an unhaul soon using the question "would I want to move you to a new place". It's a good starting point! Little bit sad to see you unhaul The Lunar Chronicles, but I kind of get it as well haha. I wrote my thesis on Cinder (and a bunch of other Cinderella retellings), though, so it has a special place in my heart!
Love unhauls! Recently did the same and got rid of 73 books, half were ones I won't reread or if I do it'll be on audio. The other half was a mix of didn't like or lost interest in. One day I woke up and realized I wasn’t ever going to read 80% of my books again and gave away around 80 books. I have a library card that has an amazing inter library system and I can literally get any book I want. Right now I’m on a 70s era fantasy kick and I’m most definitely not going to buy every Dragons of Pern novel.
Such an interesting look at different reasons to unhaul books! I have had periods where I think of keeping every book I've bought and read, but then I get realistic haha. So I tend to try and keep those which mean something to me or that I have a high liklihood of re-reading. I'll get there in the end!
I unhauled so many books (read and unread) when I moved. It's therapeutic. ... At this point I donate most of my YA to my cousin's classroom. I read and don't need most of them anymore. She needs books for her students. It all works out. ☺☺
I just did a declutter of ornaments sitting on my shelves. I had over 50 and got rid of half. My shelves look so gooooood and I am CLEANSED. Now to attack the rest of the house 💃🏼
The Under the Never Sky trilogy is so AESTHETIC. Wow. You aren't wrong about how it kinda feels like we're currently living in a dystopian. About Marissa Meyers Renegades series, I couldn't get through the first book. It had promise, but I only enjoyed about 20%, and the rest was either boring or was actively IRRITATING. The older I get, the less tolerance I have for certain YA tropes.
I feel like I always relate to you so much on Victoria Schwab lol. I felt like Vicious and This Savage Song both should have been standalones. I would like to read more of Anna-Marie McLemore though.
This is actually so great. We're planning to move next year, just to a new house in our town, but honestly I could be going through my shelves already and unhauling anything that I don't want to move. Also so with you on the Under the Never Sky series, I adored it when I read it, and I've been thinking about rereading it, but I'm scared that it won't hold up to a reread. I found that I was hardly ever rereading books so I made the scary decision to donate all of the books I had already read. Most freeing experience of my life! I don't suggest this extreme declutter to most people, (I'm a bit extreme 🤣😂) but cutting down on the stuff in your life gives more room for experience.
That's what I did several years ago, keeping only nonfiction for reference. These last couple of years I've begun reading voraciously again, but only using my library system. I have well over 1K books in my wishlist on Overdrive, so I certainly don't feel the pinch when not every book I want is available! ^_^
I donate a lot of money to my local library for this very reason. I can still read almost everything I want to and maintain the minimalist lifestyle I choose, plus it allows others that can't afford it the same opportunity to read. Knowledge should be available to everyone.

I have a box going at all times of my read books and when it gets full i donate or resell them. Vicious is a total 5 star for me, and This savage song was a 4 star, but I was super dissapointed in Our Dark Duet and hated the first 2 darker shades of magic books and have been dragging my feet to read the 3rd. Love your unhaul videos btw! I love buying new books, huge dose of serotonin for me, but I also love the catharsis of an unhaul. I recently unhauled like 15 books and already added 3 more to my pile for next time.
Even though I've had to move numerous times in the last 5-6 years, and moving several boxes of books is a pain, many of them are still TBR and I got a lot of them at used bookstores so I know I likely won't get them cheaper anywhere else lol

Its a retalling of orpheus and eurydice, and also of course hades and persephone in a very unique way that i think you could enjoy. It is one of the best musicals out there, and one of my personal favorite, and now every time you mentioned hades and persephone, i think of it😂 anyway, I wish that you would feel better ASAP😊

And then I thought 'why should I keep books that I do not like and will never read again when I could pass them on to someone who could love them?' And now I only keep books I love and will reread. Books are precious - hate getting rid of them. :-) I too want to move back to the midwest. I am in NC now for the last 5 years and I hate it here - I cannot wait until someday soon that I can do this.

Unhauls are so bizarrely therapeutic and calming to watch. I always get a little anxious when I see these huge haul videos in my recommended, my anxiety brain does NOT like seeing "HUGE 100+ BOOK HAUL!!!" titles lmao.

I have the same dilemma. I've read up to Cress and I keep wondering whether or not to get Winter and read it. I think I waited too long between the first two books and the third one and thus lost all enjoyment. It's been a year since I read the third one and I think I might just let it go. Her description of it was on point, that's exactly what it's like.

I totally agree, I am also not that interested in signed books. I don't really get the appeal, especially if you didn't even meet the author. It's just a signature, somtimes even a stamp or printed.
I'm going to commit book blasphemy here. Fair warning. If I've read a book, even if I love it or if it's signed or whatever....I get rid of it. (The one exception is Chuck Wendig's "Wanderers", and that's only because there's a story behind the signing and because, if the zombie apocalypse happens, I can bludgeon my way through a swarm with that thing. It's 800+ pages big.) My house is small, my shelf space is limited, and I very, very rarely read something once it's been read. Authors have this pesky habit of putting out new books all the time, and if I've got any chance of making it to the bottom of my TBR in my natural lifespan, the re-reads have got to go. (And I read A LOT. I think I'm at 214 for this year, and it's been a slow year.) Thing is: I don't miss them. I know. All the collectors are going to come for me. (Or to raid my local Little Free Library, where most of them end up.) The churn of new things quiets the "but but but I LOVE THAT BOOK" chorus in my head. I had a point to all of this and I can't remember what it was. Ah, yes: This past move was just after a natural disaster cleared out my library to zero. (Tornado. You're a midwesterner; you understand.) And it was possibly the easiest move of ALL TIME, because I didn't have sixty boxes of heavy dead trees to try and tetris into a UHaul. That experience is what started my non-collection/one-in-one-out habit, and it's been amazing. Your move may not be book free, but even book reduced will help *so much*. Hope everything goes quickly and smoothly on the road back home. :)
I have to say The Archived was such a doozy I couldn't stand that book. I dragged my way through it I have book 2 might just get rid of both when I do. This is just my opinion of it. I almost Dnf'ed it.

I'm going to commit book blasphemy here. Fair warning.
If I've read a book, even if I love it or if it's signed or whatever....I get rid of it. (The one exception is Chuck Wendig's "Wanderers", and that's only because there's a story behind the signing and because, if the zombie apocalypse happens, I can bludgeon my way through a swarm with that thing. It's 800+ pages big.)
My house is small, my shelf space is limited, and I very, very rarely read something once it's been read. Authors have this pesky habit of putting out new books all the time, and if I've got any chance of making it to the bottom of my TBR in my natural lifespan, the re-reads have got to go. (And I read A LOT. I think I'm at 214 for this year, and it's been a slow year.)
Thing is: I don't miss them. I know. All the collectors are going to come for me. (Or to raid my local Little Free Library, where most of them end up.) The churn of new things quiets the "but but but I LOVE THAT BOOK" chorus in my head.
I had a point to all of this and I can't remember what it was.
Ah, yes: This past move was just after a natural disaster cleared out my library to zero. (Tornado. You're a midwesterner; you understand.) And it was possibly the easiest move of ALL TIME, because I didn't have sixty boxes of heavy dead trees to try and tetris into a UHaul. That experience is what started my non-collection/one-in-one-out habit, and it's been amazing. Your move may not be book free, but even book reduced will help *so much*.

I have to say The Archived was such a doozy I couldn't stand that book. I dragged my way through it I have book 2 might just get rid of both when I do. This is just my opinion of it. I almost Dnf'ed it.
