Thank you for sharing this! I so loved these guys. It's sad to know they're gone, that that era is gone. At least we have these reels to look back on. Peace...
I grew up in Coconut Grove, I was following Vince Martin and Fred Neil around like a puppy dog in the late 60's. Oh dear. I love these two guys with all my heart. I was just a teenager.
I went and spent time with Vince in October 2013, just a month and a half ago....still full of spirit, and was very nice, and gracious to me...we had a bite, and he took me back in time, then back to the subway station...I had to pinch myself when Vince Martin called my phone to make sure I caught my connecting train...amazing...what a nice guy...
Anything on Vince and Freddy I will watch. Dumb kid at open mike night at the Flick every chance I got. Listening to the amazing people there... no words. I have no words for my gratitude at being reminded of my good fortune.
Calico - I can't say thank you enough times for posting this. I bought Tear Down the Walls about 1968...went in the service. Left all my albums with my brother. One day I get a letter from him, his apartment got ripped off, all my records - gone! Never got around to replacing Tear Down the Walls, but "I got 'em" still plays in my head whenever I go to an open-air market. Before farmer's markets came along, back in the 1950s & 60s, there was the Faneuil Hall Market in Boston, and some of the Italian immigrant vendors would indeed "sing their wares," as that song always resonated with me.
How cool would it be to take a time machine back to the Village before Dylan got famous and the scene was vital and bursting with creativity and energy?Imagine the as yet unknown players that blew through there...
Totally agree, Carol. By the way have you ever heard of Keith Gre(e)ninger & Dayan Kai ...check them out. Search on BlueCoast records website for samples...I think you might like them.
This is a great interview. Vince Martin is a legend in his own right. I have his old Tarriers' 45, Cindy Oh Cindy. He's been around 60 years, and has lived through it all yet hasn't gotten the attention he deserves. How about a book?
Fred Neil & Vince opening for Mississippi John Hurt; that must've been some gig. If I wasn't born a quarter century later i would have travelled cross-country for it!Thanks for making this video.
Great stuff. I got the album way back when because I had heard "Dade County Jail" and I knew a kid who ended up in Juvenile Hall after running away and the song really touched me. The rest of the album was wonderful. One of the best I ever bought; just pulled it out of the record cabinet. Thanks for thisl
You're welcome Jeff. I heard stories about that jail. I hope your friend's experience wasn't as grim as the one Fred heard about and subsequently wrote about in Dade County Jail.
Only so very recently I started digging up about Fred Neil. Too bad he didn't pursue his music career. All the others of that time did. Look where it got them! Well, he's in a better place now, anyway. This was a great document!
Unfortunately, the documentary 'Fare Thee Well, Fred Neil" is not for sale. Maybe sometime in the future it will be but for now it is not. Thank you for enquiring about it.
Don't think the entire albums available on TH-cam. You can purchase the album through Amazon. Right now, the audio CD can be had for the unbelievable price of $5.53. Worth three times that much.
@posthumanhero You are correct. I didn't use any of this footage in 'Fare Thee Well, Fred Neil'. Wanted to use all the footage pertaining to the album for this video exclusively. However, it would have worked well in the doc. I guess you could say it's a good compliment to 'Fare Thee Well'...
These stories and recollections are pure gold.
Thank you.

You're welcome. Thanks for sharing your feelings.

'Tear Down The Walls' is one of the best albums I ever bought. As a 12 string guitarist I'm still knocked out by the playing.

Thank you. So glad you appreciate it. Vince deserves a book…he should write it himself.

Just found this ..thanks so much.
