I asked chatgpt who is the John Danaher of surfing and pointed me to this channel. I have watched hours of your content and in just the last 2 surf sessions has changed everything I thought I knew about surfing. The results I'm achieving is amazing. Hope to do one of your surf lessons one day.
Thanks for your videos. I grew up surfing several times a week, and then stopped completely due to life changes at about 20. Getting back into it 40 years later, I feel like I'm starting from near zero. Things are coming back, but it's like learning to walk again. Your explanations are helping me speed up that process. Thanks
Pure gold! Very well explained. Thanks again for all your help, Clayton 🤙 Happy surfing! I'm still very much at the beginning of my surfing journey, and this channel has given me so many pointers and insight that I can't recommend it enough.
Well done guys! No one is progressing learning/improving surfing as much as you guys! Before OMBE it was all voodoo! Appreciate you guys breaking it down for us logically. 👍👍👍
GREAT content!!! Been surfing forever but the way you have the lines illustrated and explained makes such sense!! Back in the day I just learned by watching videos and contests!! This helps so much even to an old guy like me! Thanks bro good on ya!
Appreciate the care and detail in explaining board shape for beginners and intermediates. Most of board shape discussions are focused on pros/advance surfers and while interesting, isn’t actually relevant for most people since we can’t tap into the benefits. A little more discussion of wave shape, would be helpful too. Much of this talk is about boards fitting into a wave, but when it’s mushy or weak, which is a lot of days, seems like I want a board with a broad nose and squash tail. Even though I can ride a pulled in nose and a pintail on better days.
So good - I have the issue with my girlfriend that she surfs well but clearly rides too much volume in that she can't sink her tail / rail into the face enough and she feels she needs to ride more volume and slowly come down. Think I'm going to have to just get her to buy for her next board something with a very thin tail (like a Machado). But a video on jumping down in volume would be great.
Great video! What I kind of missed however was a bit of information on how to choose a board (f.e. a shortboard to transition from a mini mal to) based on one's size and weight. It would be a very much awaited video, cheers!
Can you make a video on how to pump a board? I’ve transitioned from trimming and turning on a longboard, now on a mid length and have no issues catching waves but I am unable to stay in the wave without knowing how to generate speed
When do you know when your shortboard is too big for you? When do you know it’s time to downsize? Not having any trouble catching waves, but having trouble with frontside snaps (line 3 surfing?). Do I learn on the bigger shortboard for better technique, or do I downsize to a smaller shortboard that’s easier to turn?
First of all I'm 'so' loving OMBE. It's just the best surfing platform out there! 😁 I have the 8 foot blue Odysea surf board shown in this video. Is it possible to surf along the face of a wave on this type of board?
Hi Clayton. Whether you will read this and reply I don’t know but have a query to anyone who may advise. I am 49 and was surfing about 18 months ago a 6’8 flow stick. I felt I needed to get a less volume smaller board to improve my turns. I ended up with a frk+ 6’4 which has helped and I love. Now I’m only 5’8 and 6’4 you may say is too long for my size. The only reason I went bigger is to help with float and paddling. I’ve now orders a red tiger 6’4 as well gone at that size to help paddling. So my question is am I doing the right thing or should I be going smaller on board size. Any advise would be welcomed
Watch the ombe 4 line videos. It’s about maximising wave energy. Then the question is around if the board is helping you attaining that. Ie effortless surfing because you maximise wave energy
@@ombesurf that’s for the reply really appreciate it. Just watched the line 4 vid and yes I get what you are saying. Makes total sense. I’m off on a Maldives trip with I believe who you have coached before Renagade surf travel. Would have been amazing to have had you on there with your knowledge.there is no right or wrong answer for what I asked I realise. The frk+ gives me a great feel and being in the power zone certainly does make things seem easier no doubt about it.
I’m currently renting a foamy when I go surfing and still pretty new to it all but I can get up and ride small waves. What type of board would you recommend to buy as the first board if I’d like to get some life and progression out of it?
@@daneberry97438’ hardtop will be a natural progression if you’re renting a 8’ foam top and able to catch and ride small waves. The hard top till be narrower and less full rail, and will be a world of difference with regards to stability and maneuverability. The 8’ hard top will allow you to progress without too much of a reset. I went too quickly down to a 7’, and struggled more than I needed too.
That round-tail midlength looks super fun! Get one with single/double concave, hard rails and you’ll think you’re riding a shorter board with much easier wave entry🤩🤩

I wish someone would have told me this earlier 😅 now it makes total sense on why I struggle to turn my 8ft soft top 😂

technical talk, love it! This is how my brain operates. Thanks for the info.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for this - been looking for an intermediate board for a while and just get lost so this is super helpful.
Great to hear!

We are editing this atm
Do you have the dims for each of these boards?
Yes however these are suited to Gold Coast waves. For colder climates i would up the volume
Great information
Thanks

We cover this in the next video. We are still doing the edits

A hard top will have a better shape so similar in size but more refined and less volume so it’s more responsive

Where would you place the Seaside and beyond? (6’8 41 liters quad)
Kinda line two although good surfers like Machado can manipulate the board to make it fit in tight situations

Yes it does. Certain rules from surfing do and don’t apply. The obvious one being the lift the wave has is dramatically increased
@@ombesurf thank you. Hope that one day you might consider making a video on board choice for these circumstances.
