FAQ:
UVB-76, also known as The Buzzer, is not haunted, neither abandoned nor even a mystery at all. Here are some frequently asked questions. Please read these before asking questions in the chat. If you have further questions, you are always free to ask!
1. What is the purpose of UVB-76?
UVB-76 is a Russian military station. It's sending out messages to other reception points in the Russian military.
2. Why the Buzzing? What is it for?
The Buzzing, also known as a channel marker, is used to mark the frequency as used. It should prevent people from using the frequency, while also helping military operators to find the station when tuning in.
3. Since when has this station been running?
The first confirmed logs and recordings are from 1982.
4. Are there other stations like this?
Yes. They are listed here: priyom.org/mil...
5. How can I listen to this on my own radio?
If you want to listen to The Buzzer on your own radio, you need a shortwave radio capable of Single Side Band Modulation (SSB). AM also works but could cause destruction of the voice messages (depends on your radio). Depending on your location, a decent antenna might be required. The frequency is 4625 kHz USB (Upper Side Band).
6. What is that Morse code/beeping/other noise I am hearing in the background?
The Morse code and similar sounds have nothing to do with the Buzzer. They are operating on a frequency near the Buzzer, that's why you can hear them
