Regarding the pressure put on Tesla Superchargers my guess is the Model 2 will be mostly used as a second car for city driving and not long drives because of the range. Most of the charging will, therefore, be done at home.

Just came across your channel and really enjoyed the look, info supplied and your delivery.
Just a thought on the projected range of a Model “2”. I feel that buyers of such a vehicle will be mostly using it as a commuter, run around daily driver where long range will not be as important. As there are many manufacturers making evs like this it is important for Tesla to have something in their range for those needs. Middle class families might also see an affordable Model 2 as partly offsetting the emissions and ongoing costs of the SUV they use on the weekends and for trips.

Does cabin storage mean trunk (UK boot) space? If you asked me about cabin storage I would be thinking about storage in the passenger compartment, which is what I think of as the cabin, so door pockets, cup holders and the glove compartment, not the luggage space.

Uhm, CR's Cabin Storage is space within the seating area for the storage of small items- meaning cup holders, arm rest storage, door pockets, back seat pockets, etc. You were describing cargo capacity.
Directly from CR website "Cabin storage is storage spaces between seats, in cup holders and the dashboard, and other storage, not including trunk space."

Low cabin storage is perhaps due to the Model S and X having no door pockets. Also early Model S had no center console. The post-facelift model do have a center console but still lacks storage in the armrest. All-in-all I would indeed say that cabin storage is sub-par. Cabin storage is something different than cabin space in my book.

Can someone explain the point of a heated steering wheel in an EV? I get that in an ICE car, on cold days, you will have a cold steering wheel when you get in. But in an EV you preheat the interior via the app on cold days. When exactly is a heated steering wheel ever needed?

  • @Preske

The cabin storage: Could it be explained as the lack of storage options, not size? Having a frunk and trunk is maybe not what is meant here. lots cars have loads of hidden nooks and crannies where you can store stuff.

Some Teslas still don't have door pockets. Mostly no hooks for cargo. No retractable cargo cover. Nothing to secure cargo when seats are down. These are just some reasons. Plus closing frunk is not actuated.

Did the “would buy again” survey control for age of the car? Tesla doesn’t have as many older cars on the road as other companies that have been making cars for decades. That alone could skew the results in favor of Tesla: people like newer cars better and therefore like Tesla’s better (on average) than all other available cars.

I would say that typically the “cabin” storage gripes are focused around driver convenience storage. The lack of cubbies and drink holders has always been an issue to most consumers. Early on Elon believed that theses features were not necessary. Example is the center console add-on for the 2012-2013 that added the storage component missing in these early models.

Storage. Think front door pockets, none on S and X, center console, glove box. Rear storage is great on S, X and Y. Unfortunately for that score, the 3 is the biggest seller and is the only one without the liftback.

Understand point with cabin storage, not trunk and frunk, very well. I wish my 2019 S had dor pockets and cup holders back, placed in armrest in the middle as new S and X do. Would be nice if there was opening between trunk and cabin, behind armrest, so that I could get ski in there while my kids occupy right and left seats. It's hopeless with ski box and racks that only service can mount due to warranty.
