Hi kaylee, jordan and baby sadie. What a blessing. I had a client this morning and i told him i wanted to live off the land and leave society behind and he told me i sound a lot like his youngest. He saiid his daughter and her boyfriend are building their dream house in Panama and they are getting married thus April. They just had a little girl. But they started with nothing in thei bank account. He was your dad. What a proud one he is of you. I couldnt be more inspired. Thank you for sharing this journey. Im sure im one in a million who yall have really touched. I have faith this is the start of a very big opportunity for us. I would love to touch base with you and pick your brain.
Go buy wire ties with the loops already on them. They come in packs of 1000. The only purpose of the tie is to position rebar until the concrete sets. Do things the easy way now, because you have a lot to do! That's gonna be a great house!
I poured the foundation for my house in 1981 at the age of 20. We used two 10 yard loads of con mix, 120ea 90lb sacks of cement and two cement mixers. There were six of us mixing and pouring. We started at 6:00AM and finished at 8:30PM. Still ranks up there in the top ten hardest working days of my life.
When my husband built our first house he spent about two weeks every night sertting our corners of the foundation and I got a bit grumpy about let’s get started. I never forgot what he said, this foundation is one of the most important things we have to settle now before we go any further because once we start building it cannot be changed. As we continued I soon realized just how important it was that the foundation has to be perfect. So do it right now or you will be having more problems later. Good Luck. You have built some beautiful bldgs so far so you will do fine❤
Hello beautiful people, yes it is always a small set back when something happens like the holes being a little bit off alignment but man a “HUGE” shout out to y’all and that “AMAZING” group of “HARD WORKING” and eager to learn team of men you have helping you and what an amazing job EVERYONE is doing 🥳👋🏻👋🏻👋🏻👋🏻
Machine sewing is a great skill to take up. So many uses. My Grandma taught me to sew in 7th grade. From that point on I always made my own bedroom curtains as I moved from house to house with my dad’s USAF assignments. Later as an adult, I kept making the curtains for every house we moved to in my husband’s 30 year Air Force career. I tried to teach my daughter just the basics but she wasn’t interested. But our son learned in 8th grade and he’s still sewing Copley outfits for the conventions he goes to. He has not been sewing his own curtains though as he’s now moving around in his AF career, but there’s hope! LOL
I love following your journey. Your mission to hire and train locals is so heartfelt. I love hearing Jordan get more fluent and confident in his Spanish speaking skills as well. Win-win!
The First Foundation has cement in it. this is the start of Building. that is a huge milestone after all that digging. your workforce is brilliant, and they are learning more with each and every task
Long time watcher, love you guys. I'm Red Seal Residential, Commercial and Industrial carpenter of 25 yrs. Use saddle ties for the rebar. it will totally strengthen your cages. It's just an industry engineered way of tying the bar, but it works. You only need to do the tie wire saddle ties intermittently. It's a Rod busters anchor for tying bar.
What a great crew. Grtting the first one down. That’s awesome. You got a sawing machine! Yes! I got one for Christmas, -funny story- i asked for a sewing machine for Christmas and my wife was like, what? Do you know how to sew? I said No but youtube will teach me. I just finished my 5th quilt, I’ll start with curtains next. Enjoy! Cant wait to see what you make ❤❤❤❤❤
My 9 year old daughter Nixie and I enjoy watching your videos together on the weekend, You're doing great cant wait to see the start of the house going up. Love Gee and nixie
You guys and all your crew need to be very proud of all your accomplishments you have done so far on the building of your dream home. I love watching all the progress. Take care.😄💜💛💚💙
You will love sewing! I taught myself to sew I started with pillow cases. Move on to maternity clothes then baby clothes and all little girl clothes. The next baby was a boy so I challenged myself to putting zippers in little boy clothing and one Easter I made him a three piece suit and a shirt. I was so proud of that suit. .y daughter go a beautiful blue satin dress that year for Easter. Satin is not easy to sew. Takes special needles for the sewing machine. Good luck.
Love watching you all work so hard. The house will be a grand mansion from the tiny house. Can’t wait for it. What’s coming after the house is finished? Thanks for sharing your life with us.❤️
You've got the cleanest dirt I've ever seen. If I want to plant a small bare root tree, I first have to fight the soil pulling out roots, branches, rocks and other debris. I'm glad you have untouched land, assuming that's the reason why it's so clean. ❤
Wowie, Congrats on sewing machine Kaylee! I’m sure mama, and Sadie, will enjoy using lots of creativity designing many, many pieces of clothing as well as linens/ draperies! Hey Jordan, your facial expressions tell exactly what frame of mind you’re in…..concrete pouring excitement!!! Well deserved y’all! Loving your videos! God bless! 🤗 🤗 🤗 ❤❤❤CarrieJo/NC
It's such a joy to follow along on your journey. I started when you were in your bus in Central America, and I went back and watched from the beginning. It was a little unreal when I caught up to you guys to know that what I was watching was happening almost in real time. Kaylee, you are so cute with your "sewing corner". I'll bet you one dollar that in 3 months there will be bolts of fabric stuffed into every nook and cranny in the place. When you move into the big house, the whole workshop can be a sewing room!
What an interesting video! I moaned when you said the measurements were off, but you took it in stride. That was amazing watching your crew set those pillars! They really are something!! Good luck with your new sewing machine, Kayleigh!! You are going to love it! Sadie will have fun watching and learning! When she is a little older, she will be able to make things, too. If they have cardboard sewing pieces available, she can sew those while you sew on the machine. If you can’t find them, make your own for her. Draw an animal shape on cardboard, cut out, punch an even amount of holes around the edge, thread a needle with yarn, leave a tail at the beginning for tiring off, and sew up and down in the holes going all the way around. Tie off with the two tails to finish! The best needle for her little hands would be one that is used for sewing knitted pieces together. They are plastic with a large eye…and not sharp. She can color the cardboard and add eyes for her animal! Love from Pennsylvania 💕🌷🐻
I love that you are upskilling. That just adds so much value. And all we have in this life is time so you doing what you want to do even though it takes time is well worth it for you. Creating skills and memories and just building meaning in your community. Wonderful! Love from south africa 😊❤
I have been teaching myself to sew. Tons of good you tube videos. Christine's Home Affairs from Australia taught me a lot on making tote bags and cosmetics bags. I have also watched various videos for making baby items. There are good ones for cleaning and oiling your machine as well. I would love to get into clothing but so far have only made a pair of pj shorts, which I love and live in when I am in my house.
I love you guys so beautiful you guys are following your dream and you're teaching everyone everyone that watches your videos we get to learn something new everyday,❤
I love your enthusiasm. You guys make a great couple. And Sadie is absolutely precious 💞💞 A HUGE THUMBS UP for those hard working guys. WOW-OOO!!!❤❤🎉🎉😅😅
U guys have brought me so much joy and positivity. U guys have so much love and positivity for each other and Sadie. Kaeli, I can’t remember lines from movies and books and music! You are not alone, in fact I feel like we don’t waste our time memorizing things that we can watch again, read again and listen to again! 😃 It’s a man thing, I think! 😢
Hey, so glad you got a sewing machine! You will be on a wonderful journey. I suggest you start by crafting a small quilt. Basically all straight lines. Something like a patchwork quilt…hint, check out charm squares ( cuddly quilt for Sadie)
Have I told you lately how much I love you guys!!!!❤❤❤❤😊 You’re my do life your way HEROES 🎉 Sadie you ARE the BESTEST daughter ever!!! You saved Daddy from the Scorpion and helped Mommy with the amazing all purpose corner!!!!! 🎉💕💕 AWESOME WORK 👀🥳
Great job! Things are moving along and you’re getting it. I’m so glad Kaylee got her sowing machine. I can’t wait to see what she makes and how she inspires me! I bought two sewing machines last summer at garage sales, at separate times. One I couldn’t pass up and was a really nice one for someone who makes home-made bed spreads from scratch. It had never been opened and was only $25 USD, original cost $165. The other was a small Singer for $15 USD and it doesn’t look like it cost more than $100. I haven’t tried either one because I jumped on a jet plane to Bali for most of the winter. When I get back to AK it’s going to be really cold so I need some projects to work on. I had been thinking about what I could do to stay busy…besides attending workout classes. My other thought was to crochet!!!!
In my experience which was back in the summer of 1969…the twister were used with wires that had loops in each end. We used them building Bridges on Interstate Highways… “Ol’ Scooter” in East Texas.
I have a sewing machine that I bought over 10 Yeats ago and haven't properly used once. Maybe I'll start learning with you. I'm glad you are working on the footers. Once you poor the floor slab, the weather will affect your progress much less. Your progress will go warp speed after you get the slab done.
SLEEP Jordan I HAVE HAD THE PROBLEM FOR 30 yrs I just deal with it. IF i get 4 maybe 5 hrs of sleep I'm lucky I just get thru the day, day after day. TAKE and STAY WELL Just think in no time you will have your DREAM HOME
The foundation is key! Building in Cocle. Did foundation 12yrs ago, 5'+ with 5/8" rebar, unles hit solid rock, then drilled into rock 3' min for rebar. House has over 100k worth of concrete & core filled block at base of mtn & not sinking at all. Got pics as sent $ from states. Over 3k sqft with 1600sqft to go as we speak. No ac, high ceiling & fans, insulating as we install ceiling
We made a square wooden box with long handles to the correct dimensions so we could fill 3 times or so with sand and rock and easily 2 people could pick it up and dump into the mixer. We always used the 5 gallon bucket (cubo) to measure out the right amount of water into the mixer FIRST! We built a 2 story large structure this way. We also had a LARGE wooden box built so that we could keep the mixer crew keeping ahead of the need for cement.
Oh ya for the craft corner you need a drop down table for sewing to enable cutting of fabric and sewing machine etc……. My mom had one of these she and loooooved it. Put up your shelves then to close it all in put the drop down table. Oh I have so many ideas for you. The legs of the table fold down as the table is put up. I hope I’ve explained this well enough. It’s what you need. Hinges on the table top next to the shelves and the legs are hinges on the table bottom. Clip it up with simple gate hooks.
Hey you guys, the footers look great!!! Your footers are Really heavily built, and you are welding steel now top of the colums, you do not need those colume exactly in line. As long as you get the four corners square the rest can be 3 inches off the center line and still not loose much strength. Your house will never move. Good luck with it all. Take Care George and Jenny
I can't imagine the heartbreak when you realised the holes are a bit off and that you'd have to do more digging. It's amazing to have such a tight team to lean on in those tough moments. I love following this journey!
The best thing you can do for your team is to teach them each step in building a home, they will in turn teach their own to do it and you will forever leave a legacy.
Cannot wait to see what you make with the sewing machine!!! Not that I don’t LOVE all the building! You’re just so creative! Are you going to use patterns or just wing it? I’m so intrigued! Love you guys so much! So bummed for you about the 10 cm! ♥️ from Oregon Jess
Fold the wire in half over the hook and keep this loop on the hook while you drop the ends down the back side of the join to be made. Bend the tails together under the join and up the front and over the hook again in front of the join so you now have three loops on the hook and the doubled wire around the join. Spin. Done. Pre cut your wires once you know how long you like it.
Kaylee, you need something similar to the DreamBox. It is an all in one craft cabinet that opens wide and houses all your craft needs. The Dreambox 3 is probably too big for your space, but it may give you some inspiration on maximizing your space. I know you both have your hands full, but just thought I would mention it!
I’ve see you guys how cold you are if you’re outside in a tropical country we discussed that it is better for us not to live higher in the mountains from Panama. We have 3 or 4 years to go before we immigrate to Panama so we have enough time to look other places. It is so nice to see how you and the crew build your house…good luck.
So exciting to see your dreams coming to fruition! Is there a way you could make a chute of some sort for the concrete to flow from the mixer to the hole? Would save a lot of back breaking work!
Just sitting here in the arctic chill in Boston and saw you guys had posted. Awesome job guys but damn do you have some work in front of you. But I figure you already know that. Can't wait to be there for your wedding in April. (FINALLY!) Hugs to all and remember my son what I taught you years ago.. Measure twice, cut once.. Love you all. Dad.
Love your videos, you guys are my favorite channel to watch! I am sure you have answered this before, but how many sq ft will your finished house be? It looks HUGE when you pan out with the drone!! It has been so exciting to watch your house build and I always look forward to your new videos :)
I don't know about down in Panama but here in Canada you can buy the twisted wire already set up with the loops and home Depot has it in boxes with the rebar is pretty much the only wire that is sold to construction sites now for tying rebar here except for the automatic rebar tying guns that are sold. I'm not sure what they use but those things are pretty slick. I think most major tool manufacturers make one now
Please invest in Aviation safety wire pliers. They are long skinny pliers that lock then you pull the rod on the end and the entire plier spins to twist the wire. Those of us in Aviation add a bearing to the end that makes retracting the end faster and easier.
It's a lot of work it's your passion project it's your home sweet home It's exciting to imagine what it will look like when it's done ...i'm not an expert in concrete at all but I usually seem them vibrate or shake out the air in the concrete so i googled it i didn't see it happen and maybe you don't have to but just for safety measures becaues it is holding up and entire house too ...Yes, you should almost always vibrate concrete when pouring a foundation, as vibration is crucial for properly consolidating the concrete, removing trapped air, and ensuring a strong, uniform structure with minimal voids; this is considered a standard practice in construction and is often mandated by building codes. Key points about vibrating concrete for foundations: Benefits: Vibration helps to push the concrete into all corners of the form, eliminating honeycombing and ensuring a solid bond with reinforcement bars. When to vibrate: Always vibrate concrete for foundations unless you are using a self-compacting concrete mix designed to flow freely without needing vibration. Important considerations: Over-vibration: Avoid over-vibrating, as it can cause segregation of concrete components. Proper technique: Use a suitable vibrator based on the concrete mix and foundation size, and move it systematically throughout the pour. Check local codes: Always consult local building codes to ensure compliance regarding concrete vibration requirements.
I think you made the twisting tool more complicated than it needed to be. Instead of making two loops you take the length of wire and twist the ends together so you have a circle, then take the circle and bend it around your rebar so that you have two wires holding it together and it automatically makes two "loops" for the twisting tool to utilize. I would still say that a cordless drill would be the easiest way to do it, just tighten the bit clamp down on the wires and spin.

And pull the twister up and spin. So fast once you get the hang of ti.
I can confirm this,I'm a professional concrete worker.
I doubt they have them down there. I do agree that one wrap is enough. Once it's encased in concrete it won't matter.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤🙏🇨🇦🇨🇦😊
Exactly! Maybe even the electric/Battery operated wire tier would be a great choice since they have so much wire to tie, 😂

“Ol’ Scooter” in East Texas.
Wow so incredible what ur doing..I Love watching your journey u guys..Sending loadsa love to u all xxx ❤️🥰
I'm getting excited for the next stage of your build 🎉🎉
SLEEP Jordan I HAVE HAD THE PROBLEM FOR 30 yrs
I just deal with it. IF i get 4 maybe 5 hrs of sleep I'm lucky
I just get thru the day, day after day.
TAKE and STAY WELL Just think in no time you will have your DREAM HOME
Hello you three been watching you all forever, love your episodes, so fun and interesting and God bless you all❤❤❤
Weld the base until the structure is stable. Then work above your head. One step at a time beloved!
Excellent!! Love you guys!!!
OMG... This is like watching a train wreck. Guys your rebar columns are skewed. 😢 In the last drone shot the cage looks about 15⁰ off.
It’s so awesome watching you guys do this
I’ve see you guys how cold you are if you’re outside in a tropical country we discussed that it is better for us not to live higher in the mountains from Panama.
Hello Jordan ,Kaylee and Sadie great progress on the home built so happen to be a spectator on this journey thanks for sharing
The wire twister is made to work with the pre-made wire twisters with a loop on each end, which is what contractors in the U.S. use!
You are doing wonderful... how rewarding to be doing all the work yourself ❤
you put both ends on the tool, fold the wire in half around the rebar, and hook the loop also on the tool. Doubled wire for twisting.
Dad.
Ohhh I’m so sorry about the setback But you all have such great attitudes!
You’re all so amazing it’s gonna happen!😊
I think most major tool manufacturers make one now
Things are looking great keep up the great work sending love hugs and blessings ❤
So happy Kaylee is going to learn to sew!!! She can make so many adorable things for Sadie!!!! Awesome job EVERYONE!!!! 🥰
You guys keep doin good stuff and it shows in your eyes… good stuff!
I would close in and insulate both outdoor living spaces, enlarge the kitchen into cooking/living room space. Then add a sleeping space for Max.
The thing about baby scorpions is that often there are more : \ We also have them here in Arizona, no bueno!
That awesome 👌! Keep up the hard work 💪🏻
Wow, what a lot of work! impressive, all of you!!
2/1/25 - Congrats guys from Charleston, SC ! Looking good ! Can't wait to see the finished product!!
❤ watching all your progress!
Key points about vibrating concrete for foundations:
Benefits:
Vibration helps to push the concrete into all corners of the form, eliminating honeycombing and ensuring a solid bond with reinforcement bars.
When to vibrate:
Always vibrate concrete for foundations unless you are using a self-compacting concrete mix designed to flow freely without needing vibration.
Important considerations:
Over-vibration: Avoid over-vibrating, as it can cause segregation of concrete components.
Proper technique: Use a suitable vibrator based on the concrete mix and foundation size, and move it systematically throughout the pour.
Check local codes: Always consult local building codes to ensure compliance regarding concrete vibration requirements.
Awesome guys.... you will get there faster than you think! Your crew rocks!
