I absolutely LOVE that you used vertical shiplap instead of tile. We recently built and I still don’t have tile in my kitchen with white shaker cabinets, because there was nothing I loved. I love this and took some screen shots.
Thank you for sharing this. I live in a "funky farmhouse" and my husband and I do all the updating ourselves. Yes, the projects never end, but we take our time and enjoy the process.
If you strip your table, since there is a lot of flat surface, you could buy a random orbital sander for about $80 and have that sanded in a few hours. Would be easier and cleaner than spraying or using gel stripper. ☺️👍
I actually have one, and I think you're right on it being simple. My issue are the legs. They are spindled and I dread having to sand them. Maybe I could do the spray thing on the legs.... 🤔
@@TheQuickJourney Yeah, that complicates it a little bit! Also depends on how thick the stain and varnish are. The legs will be way more work, but we’ll worth it!
@@TheQuickJourney I learned to get some paint matched at the hardware store, the color of your raw wood, and you can use it in the tiny details if you get sick of the little crevice sanding. 👍👍. Saves your fingers. ☺️
Wow, this was so relatable to me (I also have yet to caulk under my kitchen backsplash) We used to own a house that had a very similar kitchen, that came with the house... one day I ran the oven clean on our new gas stove and on the cabinets around the stove some of the white vinyl stuff that those doors are wrapped in melted and bubbled and shrank... so that was eye-opening. Also, thank you for being honest about the things in your home that you find incomplete, I think the notion that everything in everyone else's homes is finished and perfect is fed by social media, so we feel frustrated by our perceived inadequacy... which is unrealistic for most people... at least that is the pressure that I feel. Your home is beautiful.
Thanks for putting this video out. I feel like such a decor failure sometimes when I start focusing all of those little imperfections around my home. Glad I’m not alone!
We all have imperfect homes! A home is always evolving. As I write this, my husband is working on installing a new shower. He is currently installing tile on the wall. We built a log home and are loving it BUT it has been 13 years in the building of it. Still much to be done. This shower has cost a little over $5,000 to install and that is with no labor costs. My husband is doing all the installation. Believe it we all understand! But we continue to love it and make it better a little at a time. There are little things you can do. We had those same can lights in our old house. We repainted the ceiling and took the can light outside frames down and spray painted them and they looked great. Give it a try. Some scrubbing the ceiling and repainting them may give it new life. Try painting your cabinets or just touching them up. Inch toward perfection a little at a time. You’ll get there!
I've been sharing home tours and when I get to editing the kitchen I cringe at the electrical outlets because they are so high above the counter and so hard to hide. Often we are more critical of ourselves and our stuff than others are so I bet no one else even notices. Your kitchen is so pretty!! Thank you for sharing!! Love your content!
It is a slow process to get a house a home and everything done. Once done you change your taste and decor so again you are changing things up. It will all come in time for right now it is beautiful. I think the blinds would look nice in the rattan ones they may not be that expensive and painting the mantel for now that works these are all small projects that takes money and time but they are doable… enjoy the home that you have it is filled with love.
I really appreciated this video! I have so many areas like this in my home like dated light fixtures and cruddy old blinds. But I totally agreed with you about trying to just focus on the areas we love!
It can get overwhelming if we don't, doesn't it??? We do about one project/year, so I have to really pick the ones I want to do the most and that can be done on a budget. It takes patience. :) Thank you for your comment. :)
Thank you for showing that all houses have imperfections, but we can love them anyway. I have been focusing on loving my apartment and turning into a cozy, happy and authentic home. Glad to see content that relates to that. ❤️
Tip, heat up the tile, the glue gets soft. I never did this, but a friend of mine did so I don't know the pros and cons about this method of removing tiles that had been adhered with glue.
Please make caulking between your counter and backsplash a top priority immediately! Caulking isn’t just for looks, it’s for structural integrity. Lack of caulk can allow water to seep into the gap and cause damage to your cabinets and even allow mold to develop. The longer you let this one seemingly little thing go, the more damage that may be occurring out of sight.
Mom of four here with equally beautiful white cabinets in my kitchen and between the kids and the two dogs, there's no hope for keeping them clean! Loved watching this video, though, and your home is beautiful - not just because of the esthetics but the people that live there. :)
I can not wait to see that dining room table once you refinish it, I bet it’ll be stunning 😍 we have the same vertical shiplap backsplash in our kitchen (I did a whole video showing our French country cottage kitchen on my channel) but I agree with a little project turning big (tile is so hard to take off 😂) thanks for sharing!!
I really needed this video. I have areas in my home that I would love to change but money and time just have them “waiting” too! But I guess that’s all part of the process and it wouldn’t be fun if it was all done at one time! Thanks for the great videos! Keep up the good work💗
Our home is only five years old and the cabinets are bubbling at some of the edges ! Wishing now we would have gone with solid wood custom made . Maybe in a few years we will replace them .
Love the art work you have in your kitchen. Beautifully imperfect. ❤️❤️❤️
Thanks for sharing!

@@camilla6110 I think it will be worth it, too. I just need to wait until I can get outside. It will be a fun spring/summer project. :)

You're so welcome. It was well worth sharing if that's the case. 😊 Thank you for your sweet comment.

So very true. :) And, since it is getting done so slowly, the entire house won't be "out of style" in a few years. 😂
Saw you on Farmhouse on Boone and really enjoyed the interview. Looking forward to watching more of your videos.
You can caulk the backsplash yourself in less than an hour. It’s very easy to do. And you’ll be so proud of yourself!
I should totally do that! 😃 I will see if I can find some in the garage. lol Thanks for stopping by.
Still a gorgeous home. Can't wait to see your upcoming videos. 😊

Cozy and happy are such good things to create in a home. :). I strive for that, too. Thanks for stopping by!

Thank you so much and you're so right. It's the people inside that are the most important. And, they don't care about the cabinets. 😂

I had no idea about the tile! My husband totally did and he kept telling me it was a bigger project than I had anticipated. He was so right!
Really really appreciate this video!!! It just makes you feel like its ok! Everyone has projects that pile up and you just take it one at a time ❤
I hope you enjoy this realistic look at some "less than lovely" areas of my kitchen. 😊
Also you might be able to just reface your cabinets rather than replacing them if they are structurally sound. Just get new doors and drawer fronts.

That is crazy! I'm guessing it's from water, maybe??? Anyway, I look forward to having new fronts someday. :) Thanks for commenting!
90% finished is the story of my life😂.
