That's awesome that you had a big part in the revival of Grind King. You've done so much for the skateboarding community, you should be very proud and have a beer on me
What blows me away the most is the fact you've been involved with grind king for a couple years now as far as supporting the company rocking their products and being in regular communication with the owner of gk combined with the fact you're a skateboard archiver/historian with an emphasis on the golden era.... And yet you're just NOW discovering rocket bolts!?!? 🤯
I love grind king trucks Iv had the same set of base plates since I was 10 Im 32 now and I still skate those GK base please I just replace the hangers when i change deck size /thrashed the heck out of the hangers. The world's best skateboard trucks in my opinion
Most of us know Grind King's "Rockets" bolts as "Randoms" - the company who stole the idea off GK, and this isn't the first time GK hardware's innovation got ripped off for those of us who are old enough to remember "Bridge Bolts" and of course the Reverse Kingpin got stolen as well.
I have two randoms from yee old days. One has a pentagon on it and the other is just studded. Grabbed a set of GK rockets to fill in the other six holes 😊 🚀
Don is super cool. I used to work for him because he had a space for Burning Man related events. Knew him for months before he told me who he was. Good to see he's back in business.
dude fucking AWESOME. congrats man. been following you since the early days of reviewing deep dives on games we forgot about damn near 10+ years ago now? holy hell it's been awhile.
i think the adjustable wheelbase is a great idea. it could let people ride a wider range of boards than they usually would feel comfortable on. these seem like they'd be better for rails and coping than ledges though. personally, i really want to have that feeling of the wheel up against the ledge on a grind, but on something round, i bet they feel nicely locked
2 recent pairs of grindkings the kingpin snapped off in a way that it's stuck in the baseplate and needs to be drilled out. Never broke a kingpin before and only ever skated grind king. Switched to tensors after that.
Yeah man, i loved the disruptors however this happened a few times to me. The Kingpin snapped three times in a month. I think it is due to changes in temperature or something. I changed over to slappy trucks. Id never broken a kingpin before either. Its a shame as they are a great truck
i used to skate hardware called "randoms" which where hammer-in bolts that had a sort of metal griptape bolt head. you could get aliens, skulls and cannabis leaves but they just never really took off and just disappeared. there were a lot of downsides to them.
The GK kingpin was genius. I have run them pretty much since they came out. I've found trucks and boards with the trucks on, from garage sales thrift shops and marketplace, on and off for the last 20 years. When Indy went to the pressed in kingpin I'd put new hangers on OG baseplates so the kingpins would work. Some of their kingpins wee better than others and I actually broke one of my last ones skating my 2' mini ramp last weekend! Weird.
I broke a kingpin on my disruptors last season, first time i had ever broke a kingpin. GK said they would replace it for the cost of shipping tho, so thats sweet. Have loved GK since i was a kid, i got back into skating last year after 2 decades and am stoked to see new GK innovations.
@@viracocha03 That's solid commitment from them. I figure I owe it to them to buy some KP's eventually, since I probably got the one I broke from a garage sale haha. The Indy mids I have come with a inverted KP, but it's probably 1/8" higher than the GKs.
@@johnnypea43 Yeah, I had emailed them with the offer to purchase the KP, I'm in Canada and cannot find any around me, but he said he would just send em out. Gk was all I skated when I was young for about 8 years, when I started skating last year again I tried Indy's for the first time and also MiniLogo's and Thunders. Honestly, liked the MiniLogo's the best out of them. Then I found out GK had made the disruptors, so I tried them and they are still the best truck IMO. Really stocked to get my set of lockers. All personal preference tho.
my first impression was that these are kinda goofy, but less so than krepers, but they're growing on me. grindking always made cool stuff and i still have a few sets from '90s-'00s in my parts bin. rocket bolts seem sick too. i have 20+yo stock grindking bushings in some 30yo venture featherlights on my primary setup. i can't believe they still work, and well, after all this time.
Yeah me to. The silver ones kind look like broken in venture when they’re actually setup which I think is cool. As long as they turn good I’ll give them a go
Your crooks may have been off, not only because the trucks have the premade grooves, but also because you moved your front truck back (so it’s in a different position than the previous set of trucks) and possibly because the trucks are too tight to allow the pinch.
I've been watching you like ten years. Again, I thought you stopped the page. What is that arch at like 11:14 I'm the back it's all throughout the park parts but yeah it's beautiful! Glad to see you're still at it on here! Much love from Pennsylvania, where it is also freezing 😅
Dont use that hardware unless you enjoy stress cracks all around your mounting holes. That type of fastener increases the risk of nose and tail snapadge. When you crank those down the flared part promotes cracking! I personally wouldnt use a bolt like that unless you welcome problems.
I skated the grind king disuptors and i liked them but they loosen up on their own like crazy (i think because of the inverted kingpin design), besides that they were very similar to indy stage 11 in my opinion.

While never a fan boy of gk back in the day I had my fair share of the OG trucks even had some with the flame baseplate so you know I was willing to support a company if i rocked a product like that lol. In @grindkingtrucks video talking about these, it sounded like the durometer on the bushings was in the high 90s, up in Indy Super Hard territory, I'm curious if that's not part of why you were having issues on the pinch?
They have 3 bushings instead of the regular 2. The bottom bushing is "medium". The top has 2 separate bushings. One hard (black) and one medium (orange) that you can stack together or use independently, giving you loads of options.
3 baseplate hole adjustments without a solid piece to divide each set is a bad idea. Idk how that passed. One improper nose slide and you have shortened your wheel base. I've stretched too many baseplate holes
I cannot wait to get my set. GK messed up on the preorder for international's so I didn't get in on the first order but they fixing that so ill have em soon, I hope ! GK has always grinded better then most truck, IMO.
I might buy these just to have to show people the premade grooves are weird I like to make my own grooves Trucks look like there ment for surf skate lmfao 🤣 ❤😂
I would have to see more footage of people skating them. And I would have to feel them in my hands at a skateshop. First impressions looks like they slip & slide too much
They made a big mistake with the shape. Everything looks innovative except the shape. Flat will always win because there are tons of different types of rails and ledges and grinds that require a flat shape. The last thing you want to be thinking about is slipping your trucks along those grooves while doing big scary grinds.
The hardware seems like it would create a weak point in the deck ply to start splitting... Good to see ya skating though! I see a good point you mentioned about these because these won't let you lock up against the wheel and rotate the body off of it. If you were to go too hard, it would shift unexpectedly. They should have honestly just done what minilogi did and make the hanger fatter in the middle. I guess they are still good to make adjustments, though
