I lived in Old Windsor for 24 years and was only on a carnival float once. I couldn't remember the year but decided to look at the video just in case. I was amazed to see myself and Susan Robson sitting on the back of a float. I think we were dressed as dolls. Happy memories. No health and safety back then!
I have just found this video after looking to see when this year's Old Windsor Carnival was to be held. My dad Wally was the Carnival Chairman in 1972, and you can just see him at the beginning of the video, (complete with trendy sideburns!). I was also on the float with Susan Robson, you can just see the back of me in a blue and white smock! I was actually the Carnival Queen myself in 1974, must have been short of applicants by then! Very happy memories! I left Old Windsor in 1981, also after 24 years living there. I returned for the carnival 5 years ago when my mother passed away, to present a cup on behalf of my family, to one of the float winners, and was delighted to see the spirit of Old Windsor Carnival alive and well.
What a lovely thing youve done, for the people of the town, i lived a mile or so away from Old Windsor, the Wheatsheaf pub was a great meeting place for the local bikers when i was 17,great times. Was a cub scout at the wooden hut meeting placeI,on the side of the football green,not far from here, was only 10 when this was filmed. I do miss the old times.
I used to live in Old Windsor and took part in the parade many times but I was actually looking on TH-cam for any clip of the Carnival this year when I came across your video. Enjoyed watching it right through to the end as it was such a pleasant surprise to see myself on the last float. I think this was my first year on a float and I was a young prince. I recall that we kept the costume for many years afterwards.
@@enoz.j3506 if you mean the royal school in the great park, then yes, I was there. I never knew the name of the road outside the school. You must have lived in the park to know it has a name?
