    El Dorado 12 year ordered. I live in a backward country when it comes to rums. The supply is quite limited. So these videos are appreciated as I am partial to a good rum, not only for tiki, but for sipping too.

    ED12 is my goto demerara! I use it in a Mai Tai as well. Sounds like I need to try the Hamilton 86. Great video! Cheers!

      Thanks! I used it in Mai Tais for a long time until I couldn't get it any more, might have to try one again soon, thanks for watching!

    I find Demerara rum to be pretty reliable. One of my favourite affordable rums for punch is Woods Navy Rum, a blend of Demerara rums including some of that wooden still goodness.

      I've never heard of Woods, I will have to look into that, thanks!

    Hamilton 86 and 151 are both fantastic. I ferment my own Ginger Beer and mix that with the rum and a bit of lime juice. Go with the 86 if I want to sip a few. Otherwise if I need a bit more punch the 151 is excellent. Hamilton 86 also goes in as the Dark Rum in my MaiTais.

    I just finished a bottle of Lemon Hart 1804 and will be using Hamilton 86 instead, from now on. Ed Hamilton 's rums reliably offer quality and good value. His Zombie mix (collaboration with Beach bum Berry) is alot of fun as well

      Yeah I just bought a second bottle of the dem 86, The Jaimaca pot still ones are dope too! Cheers!

    My first experience with Lemon Hart was with the 151 which really took me by surprise and I love it... But I knew I couldn't be mixing normal cocktails with 151 so I sought out the 80° and was quite disappointed. Now I'm in a similar situation with the Hamilton where I only have the 151 (got it from a friend who didn't know or appreciate what she had) but haven't tried the 86°. I just did a quick side-by-side between the Lemon Hart and Hamilton 151s and have to give it to the Hamilton for a nicer, more complex flavour, although the strong brown sugar nose of Lemon Hart is still really nice. As far as El Dorado is concerned, I only have the 15 year and haven't tried the 12 year. I wonder how different they really are. A great sipper at any rate.

      I haven't tried the Hamilton 151, but if the 86 is anything to go by, I'm sure its really good. Lemon Hart is such a classic, and for a long time it was the only overproof demerara available, so got to respect it for longevity!

    When I first try the new El Dorado 12, I was really disappointed. It came across to me as overly oaked when tried fresh- tannic and bitter. However, after it sat about 3/4 full for a month or so, I tried it again and was shocked at how much more I enjoyed it. The rum rounded out a lot more after it had some time to sit and oxidize. At least that how my palate reacted to it.
    The Hamilton is a joy though, I find its assertive taste to work very well in cocktails where you want to taste the rum. I also like it mixed with coke, the burnt caramel notes play well with the cola flavors. Makes a great "painkiller" IMO.

      Yeah sometimes rums need to open up a bit, I had that experience with Worthy Park 12. I am looking forward to trying the Hamilton in some drinks!

    I was a little underwhelmed by the 1804, but only because Lemon Hart 151 is so fantastic.
    Sometimes I just open up my 151 bottle to smell it, it's so good.

    I did a similar line up taste comparison a while back, the only difference being El Dorado 8 instead of 12, and I was surprised how Hamilton 86 was easily the winner for my tastes. I guess the expectation was that since the other two were a decent amount more expensive in the general area that Hamilton's price point would reflect that. I was wrong and pleasantly surprised.

    • @UnclePete
      @UnclePete  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Totally agree. Hamilton was a surprise hit, and seems like a super good bargain to boot!

    • @UnclePete
      @UnclePete  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is a good question! I bet they would do well in one of the dark variants I did a couple months ago!
