I feel like a better point that Kev never brought up is that there should also be movies that depicts pre-slavery. There’s not many stories you can tell about modern day black people because it all involves racism to a certain degree, especially real life stories about our greats
I'm with DoBoy on the slave movies. I feel like people make them specifically to snub black people and limit them to these depictions of inferiority which is traumatic to us yet entertaining to them and they expect us to rationalize it or find the silver lining in it. There's no reason our narratives and stories need to be based in these tropes and I feel like black actors and actresses should stop taking the roles. I wish people would take more risks with the sort of stories they tell and represent.

Wait a min the movies that Eddie Murphy did in the early 2000s were not trash lol yall just wasn't the target audience. Those movies were apart of my childhood. They were family friendly multimillion dollar films 🤣. Dr dolittle did almost 300 mil. Shrek did 490 mil. 🔥
Okay two things can be true, slavery movies remind/educate people on black history and have negative effects to the black community. The only way to off set that is come out w black movies that dont have to w racism.
