My best guess is the glass was added with slight of hand from the top side closest to the magician with the thumb as the box was being opened concealing the glass the entire time.
If you look really closely, you'll notice that the box has slits on both sides opposite of the lock that's just wide and big enough to allow him to slide the glass in just as he's about to unlock it. His left thumb slides it in.
If you look closely, it looks like the glass is just a little bit smaller than the inside of The Box. I think that it's actually on the ruler. And when he pulls the ruler out, it drops.
I also noticed the gap between the box and its cover but I'm still unable to catch him on the act of slipping the glass in, on either side. Of course the back side is hinged and I cannot see a way through when he opens it.
It looks like the slots ain’t centred, so could it be that when the ruler is pushing it up it pushes it diagonal and it is enough to clear the way to the other slot 🤔
so my guess is the wood bottom of the box is removable or hinged. when the ruler is in, the glass pane is slid halfway out of the back. when the box is open it is slid back in before opening the lid.
The forever kid in me doesn't want to ruin the illusion, but my nerdbrain NEEDS to learn the science behind this.

Both the lid and the bottom of the box can be opened and a piece of glass gets in the way from the bottom of the box.

Size of the box is not same you put glass at the corner and hold it with your hand and before showing inside you youvreleasedbthevdpass

You can see to the left of the box there is a swivel door, it’s obvious when he opens the lid.
